Note: This week is Caudalie Week here at Style Chicks – we’ll be giving our initial impressions of a few products and then we’ll update you in the upcoming weeks with further results as we use this fabulous skincare line. Today, Lyn lets us know why she loves Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Cream-Mask Face and Eyes!

The winter weather has been frightful and my skin has been less than delightful.

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Masque-Creme Face and Eyes

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Masque-Creme Face and Eyes

I have managed to have multiple skin issues at once this week:  some breakouts, dry and peeling skin on my nose/nostril area and I am red all around my mouth and really raw, and my skin feels very tight and dry around my eyes and it is making me look much older.  The skin around my eyes is just dry and tight no matter what I do, and too flaky to apply any concealer or foundation on my dark under eye circle skin. Even my silk pillowcase feels scratchy (FYI:  silk pillowcases are a great investment as they are gentle to facial skin and reduce hair damage and breakage when hair rubs against the pillowcase).

My standard go to creams and lotions are just making my skin feel raw, as in serious debating about applying Vaseline directly to my face kind of raw.  I am not sure what this winter storm is doing that I have both pimples and such tight, raw skin at the same time, but when I look at my skin in the mirror and the phrase “what is important is to be pretty on the INSIDE” comes to mind, with all due respect to inner beauty, what that means to me is it is time to get aggressive on the hydrating.

So I look at my creams, lotions and potions, and my new Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Cream-Mask Face and Eyes catches my eye because it is a moisturizing cream mask for both face and eyes.  It is used as an intensive skin mask twice a week, but in the case of extremely dehydrated skin, it can be used as a daily moisturizer by applying a thin layer to the face. Sounds like a good excuse to try it out.

I rarely like a cream for both my face and delicate under eye area, but this is for around the eyes and on the face. It is not too thick for the face but still does the trick for the eyes.

APPLICATION:

When the skin around my mouth gets this raw, even the uber-gentle Clinique DDML stings a bit upon application, but this didn’t sting at all. This was really soothing and almost melted the dry skin. I put on a second application on spot areas like around my mouth, forehead crinkle, the dry flaky skin on my nose, the crow feet area of my eyes, under eye and lips. There is a light pleasant scent upon application but I can’t detect any scent while wearing it.

My skin had a luminous glow without being greasy, it could be worn nicely under makeup and would make a great go-to product after a sunburn or a cold or flu when skin around nose is flaky and raw, this would be a great quick-trick to look healthy again.

I am impressed by the feel on my skin. Usually a cream product that is this emollient feels heavy or looks greasy after application, but this dries down undetectable as a product – not sticky or wet or shiny – it just leaves behind better skin.  You can definitely leave the house with the cream on under makeup which is especially nice when the weather is still so cold and raw outside.

My skin immediately looked better and feels hydrated. Some products feel like a soft wax just on top of your skin, but this feels like my skin.  My face felt good quickly and within about ten minutes felt very spa like without feeling heavy or sticky at all, I can see how this would be nice as a at home spa night “mask”.  My face did not feel dry, cracked or itchy.  Usually when my skin gets this raw, I have to slather on so much Crème de la Mer Concentrate that my face is too greasy of a base to wear any makeup, so I am glad to find a deep hydrating product to wear with makeup so my skin can get through the rest of this winter.

I will try Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Cream-Mask Face and Eyes as a traditional “mask” on at home “spa night” in about a week or two and report the results.

I  have a few peel product favorites that I *THOUGHT* were doing the trick for me, but I’ve had such good results with the Peter Thomas Roth Power K Eye Rescue and a few other key PTR products that I was excited to give the UnWrinkle Peel Pads a try, even though I thought I had the glycolic acid peel beauty base covered.

What Beauty.com says about Peter Thomas Roth UnWrinkle Pads: “Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Peel Pads are a gentle yet effective daily peel with a PTR 20% proprietary complex of alpha, beta & gamma exfoliators (including glycolic, salicylic, lactic, linolenic acids) and amino acids, which are the building blocks of peptides. Helps to minimize pores, clarify the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone. Leaves skin soft, smooth, firm and revitalized. “

My PTR UnWrinkle Pads Experience:

Some Immediate perks:

· It did not sting, even on delicate skin areas.

· My skin IMMEDIATELY looked better and my skin GLOWED upon use.

· My between the eyebrow crinkle wrinkles vanished. I don’t have real forehead wrinkles but I do have a forehead line/crinkle between my eyebrows from squinting that shows mostly when my skin is very dry. It immediately looked better after application, and about 1/2 hour later forehead crinkle was really gone – no trace of it even up close. I have more crinkle lines than real wrinkles, so I didn’t expect much of a wrinkle based result, but I was surprised how much younger my skin looked without the fine expression lines around my eyebrows and lips.

· When I tried the PTR pads, I had not used moisturizer yet that day, and my skin had some dry flakey spots from mild sunburn. Normally when my face gets sunburn, I flake for at least a few days, and most products seem to make it worse or at least sting. But after the pads I was absolutely smooth after one use, no stinging involved.

After a week’s use:

· It removed dry skin without irritation and left my skin visibly more even and clear.

· It sacked the blackheads on my nose within a few days

· The pores on my cheeks were smaller and the pores on my chin seemed not visible at all.

· My skin did not get irritated with continued use.

· My skin was even and clear, so I did not feel a need to use it daily after the initial week because my skin was much more even and clear, so then I switched to using the pads about every three days or so for “upkeep”. Before an event that I want to look nice or if my skin seems kind of blah, I step it up to every other day.

Tip: The directions say to also use the pad on the tops of your hands. There is enough product per pad to do your face, neck, and hands. Some users says they cut a pad in half to make them last longer, but then there is probably only enough product to focus on face and neck. I really like how there is enough product on the pads to use on knuckles and it cleans up ragged cuticles completely.

I dare say that those of us in New England are snowed in for a day or two. When the forecast includes “Freezing Fog” (sounds like a Marvel Comics character), you know it will be bitter cold for awhile…and that my skin will be red and raw next time I have to venture outdoors. So I was glad to read about Dermatone Skin Protector Pommade in this month’s Shape Magazine, I was pretty excited. It comes recommended as a must have product from Morgan Arritola, a member of the U.S. Cross-Country Ski Team - a woman who understands cold windy weather. It locks in moisturizer, plus it has an SPF of 23, which is great for SPF touch ups on the go. If there is anything that can prevent raw, icky skin this winter, I’m on board!

DIY manicures almost always turn out bad for me because no matter how long I try to stay still, I seem to always smudge my nails, even with quick drying nail polishes. Enter Avon NAIL EXPERTS Liquid Freeze Quick Dry Spray.

I often think of Avon as that brand that has been around forever with products like Skin So Soft and I often forget about Avon for beauty basics when actually Avon frequently puts a great deal of research into the products, especially for skincare, as seen by their numerous beauty related patents on par with or exceeding many prestige brands.  So I thought if a company was going to get a quick dry spray that actually worked, Avon had a pretty good chance of having a good one at a fair price.

This spray is a non-aerosol pump spray in a small bottle. Like other sprays of it type, instructions say to allow your polish to set, then spray directly onto your nails. It is a non-offensive scented oil spray. When using this spray, spray close to your nail so as not to get the oil everywhere, it is oily enough that I try to use a paper towel or spray over some scrap paper to not get the oil on nearby surfaces. Leave the oil on your nails until it dries or wears off, but you can immediately type or otherwise use your hands until the oil dries.

As a test, about ten minutes later, I was opening a package and used my nails to peel off the packing tape. I accidentally hit my thumbnail with the scissors and expected a big dent in the polish, but the polish stayed put. It did not make the nail polish dry faster exactly, but more kept it set in place once it was initially dry. If you spray too early, you will get streaks in your polish.

I did notice my manicure seemed to chip faster, but this may be a coincidence as I also tried out a new polish and top coat at the same time. I will try the spray with my usual polish and top coat and post if I have any different results

Avon NAIL EXPERTS Liquid Freeze Quick Dry Spray sells for $6 at Avon.com.It is well worth the price.

(It is currently on sale for $3.99 as of 4/26)
