EndyMed Answers Questions About NEWA At-Home Skin-Tightening

May 25, 2020 · 10 Comments

When an at-home use device promises skin-tightening, we’re intrigued. When the device is from ENDYMED, makers of professional skin-tightening equipment for medical offices, you have our full attention.  Got NEWA questions? Us too. And NEWA answered them for us. Read our interview with NEWA, the device for at-home skin-tightening.

NEWA Plus Wireless Edition

The Need For NEWA

Skin-tightening from home is an appealing prospect. It is easy, discrete, and works on your schedule.  Several devices claim to provide skin tightening.

But not all technologies are created equal and therefore don’t deliver consistent results.

NEWA was developed by ENDYMED – a global leader in medical aesthetics, and the 3DEEP radiofrequency energy that powers the NEWA is the same professional medical technology used by dermatologists and clinics worldwide.

NEWA technology has been clinically proven by over 40 independent clinical studies that set it apart from other devices.

But before you buy any anti-aging device, how do you know it will work?

Your Newa Questions Answered

Joseph Lepselter, their VP of Clinical Affairs graciously answered Style Chicks’ questions about NEWA:

How does RF (Radio Frequency) technology work?

“NEWA, is powered by our professional medical grade 3DEEP radiofrequency technology which is the same technology that powers our ENDYMED treatment platforms used by Dermatologists worldwide.

Our 3DEEP RF technology delivers controlled energy deep into the skin tissue, reaching the dermis skin layer, stimulating the natural production of new healthier collagen and elastin fibers. Collagen and elastin fibers are essential components of the skin which gives your skin shape, lift and support. The collagen fibers are responsible for skin strength and tone. The elastin fibers allow skin flexibility and elasticity.”

How does the patented 3DEEP technology produce collagen in the skin?

“The 3DEEP technology cause microscopic thermal wound that heats the dermal collagen, which stimulates wound healing, dermal remodeling and new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid formation.”

What kinds of improvements can NEWA users expect?

“NEWA is clinically proven to increase collagen in the skin by an average of 36% which results in a visible reduction in the appearance of lines and wrinkles and an improvement in skin texture and firmness.

The results build gradually because the body is actually being “trained” to produce higher levels of collagen and elastin, which is why our recommended treatment protocol for the first month is 4-5 treatments. After that, you can move down to maintenance treatment 2-3 times a week. The results are long lasting and accumulative which means they get better over time.”

What areas can the NEWA treat?

“Our recommended treatment areas are the upper cheeks (which extends to the crows’ feet area), lower cheeks/jawline, and under the chin (turkey waddle area).

To treat around the eyes, you must treat the skin over bony areas only, be careful not to get too close to the eyes and not to treat over the eyelids.”

The NEWA website shows the before/after results of areas such as the forehead and throat. Are these also treatable areas?

“I don’t believe we have photos of the throat area but rather under the chin/upper neck area. That area has been clinically tested and responds very well to RF skin tightening.

The forehead was not one of the areas that were clinically tested but we do have NEWA users that treat their forehead with great results.”

[Editor’s note: He is correct. The photo we perceived as throat improvement, upon closer inspection, was indeed the lift and tightening of the upper neck/chin/turkey waddle area. This gave an appearance to us of improved draping of the entire neck and throat area skin.]

What age group benefits the most from using NEWA?

“We tend to see more dramatic results with the 35-65 year-old age group.”

How does NEWA compare with in-office procedures such as Thermage, Ultralift, or Thermatite?  How does it compare to invasive procedures?

“The technology behind NEWA is widely considered safer and more effective than any other RF technology available today, whether that be a home use device or an in-office treatment like Thermage.

This is because our RF technology is multi-source, phase controlled RF which means that it’s more efficient at focusing the RF energy to the exact target area which provides better results than bi-polar or mono-polar RF technologies.

Compared to invasive procedures, the upside to NEWA is that it’s safer (non-invasive), there’s no downtime or bruising, and the results are more natural looking. The downside is that the results are also more subtle compared to a surgical facelift.

Another point to consider when comparing to any in-office procedure, whether it be surgical or non-invasive is the difference in price. These procedures cost thousands of dollars while NEWA is a fraction of the cost.”

Any special tips or tricks for NEWA users?

“Yes. Stick to our treatment protocol.

Our treatment protocol is the result of numerous clinical studies that all indicated that the first month of treatment with NEWA is the key to optimal skin tightening results.

For the first month you’ll want to do between 4-5 treatments per week. Make sure that your NEWA is blinking green halfway through your treatment because that’s the indication that the heat level is effective.

After the first month, you can move down to maintenance treatments 2-3 times a week.  But trust on this – the first month protocol is something you want to follow through on.”

How does the NEWA activator gel enhance the treatment?

“Working in tandem with your NEWA device, it conducts the RF energy into the dermis while keeping the surface of the skin cool to avoid discomfort or overheating.”

Use the Lift Activator gel with the Newa device

NEWA comes with the NEWA Lift Activator Gel:  Use the Lift Activator gel with the Newa device

Which is better: moving the head in bigger or smaller diameter circles? Faster or slower rotation?

“Smaller diameter circles with slower rotation; however, as the area of concern is smaller, the movement should be faster. The key is to make sure you’re reaching optimal heating levels. Keep and eye on the blinking LED light on the top of the device. When it turns green, that means you’ve hit your goal.”

The LED indicator light will turn green during use.

The LED indicator light will turn green during use.

Is there anything else NEWA users should know?

“We always recommend taking a photo of yourself before you start using NEWA and then another after 1 month. That way you can compare your before and after and keep motivated to maintain your results. It’s easy to overlook gradual changes for the better but photos don’t lie.”

Thanks to Endymed and Joseph for taking the time to share this very helpful NEWA intel with us!

Why It Is Special

Le Vesque CBD Luxe Face Cream is an all natural, luxurious face cream. It addresses aging and skin imperfections. This cream combines CBD with natural anti-aging, restorative and refining skincare ingredients. The result? Younger, smoother and more vibrant skin.

You’ve probably seen CBD Skincare trending at beauty boutiques. But before investing in any luxury face cream, it is worth fully investigating if the primary active ingredient meets your skincare needs.

Le Vesque uses Full Spectrum CBD oil. This has some distinct advantages.

Le Vesque CBD Luxe Face Cream contains full-spectrum CBD

Le Vesque CBD Luxe Face Cream contains full-spectrum CBD, a superior CBD for skincare

What is Full Spectrum CBD Oil?

Cbd

CBD stands for cannabidiol.  It comes in a few forms. CBD isolate is when just the cannabidiol is extracted from the plant, generally using harsh chemicals that strip the beneficial terpenes. Full-spectrum CBD oil contains all the beneficial compounds found in hemp, but without the psychoactive properties. It contains Cannabigerol, AKA CBG. CBG is a skin-care workhorse. CBG kills bacteria, reduces inflammation, and treats skin problems like psoriasis. CBG is difficult to extract, so a Full-spectrum CBD is a great way to get CBG benefits. [1] It also contains all the anti-oxidants. But most importantly, Full-spectrum CBD oil is packed with skin-friendly cannabidiol. And it contains very, very low traces of THC. It won’t get you high or make you feel altered.

Differentiating CBD, Hemp Seed oil & Cannabis Sativa seed oil

While they all come from the same plant, Hemp Seed oil or Cannabis Sativa seed oil isn’t the same thing as CBD oil. CBD oil is extracted from hemp leaves and flowers. It’s a light oil that absorbs quickly. I would compare CBD Oil to Hemi-Squalene in viscosity. Hemp Seed Oil is thicker, heavier and greasier, more like Olive or Avocado. Hemp seed oil only contains trace amounts of cannabidiol. While Hemp oil is useful, it isn’t as restorative or effective as cannabidiol-rich CBD. CBD has many anti-aging and skin restorative benefits. Cannabidiol reduces:

  • Inflammation, including inflammation due to chronic inflammatory conditions [2,3]
  • Acne
  • Skin sensitivity
  • Wrinkles
  • Skin dullness
  • Ruddy skin tone
  • Excess sebum [4]
  • Eczema and Psorarsis [5]

CBD Oil comes from Cannabis Sativa Le Vesque products contain only USA-grown CBD that’s C02 extracted and third party tested.

Loaded with natural skin-enhancing ingredients

In addition to the highly restorative Full Spectrum CBD, Le Vesque CBD Infused Luxe Face Cream contains fantastic anti-aging, texture-refining ingredients. They work together to improve skin texture, clarity, and structure, while offering superior hydration.  Let’s take a look.

INGREDIENT PROFILE

Green Algae Extract refines and detoxifies the skin

Algae Extract

Algae Extract is packed with skin essential vitamins and minerals.  It conditions, hydrates, softens, detoxifies skin while refining texture. The amino acids neutralize free-radicals while improving skin barrier function. Polyphenols offer anti-aging benefits. [6]

CBD comes from hemp

Full Spectrum Hemp-Derived CBD Oil

Full Spectrum Hemp-Derived CBD Oil comes from the Cannabis sativa plant. It is restorative. CBD Oil is high in Omega-3, 6 and 9 fatty acids. It is also high in Vitamins A, E, and D. [7]

The Omegas and Vitamin D give skin a lovely glow! The Cannabidiol in CBD is an excellent anti-inflammatory that helps soothe acne. [8]

As this is a full-spectrum CBD, it contains Cannabigerols. CBG is exceptionally restorative, even on sun-damaged skin. This cream contains 200mg of CBD.

Mangifera Indic

Mango

Mango

Mangifera Indica is Mango. The Mango Seed Butter in this formulation provides a long-lasting emollient. Rich in fatty acids, it is perfect to keep skin hydrated and dewy overnight. Mango is high in copper. Copper builds Collagen, Elastin and increases Hyaluronic Acid production within the skin. Copper is rare within skincare products because extraction is costly. A natural ingredient high in copper is a great addition to this formulation! Mango Seed Butter also contains Vitamins C, A, E, K and B6. These refine the skin and fade discoloration.

Glycerin

Vegetable-based Glycerin is a natural humectant. It attracts and retains moisture in the skin.

Grapefruit PeelCitrus Grandis

Citrus Grandis is Grapefruit, in this case, Grapefruit Peel Oil. Grapefruit Peel Oil is high in collagen-producing Vitamin C. It has antibacterial benefits and studies show it reduces acne.[9] As with other citrus oils, it is an antioxidant with an uplifting scent.

Royal Jelly

10-Hydroxydecanoic Acid sounds like a chemical, but it is the extracted fat of royal jelly. Royal Jelly is the gelatinous substance bees make to feed the queen bee.   It enables wound healing and skin repair. [10]

Studies show Royal Jelly combats sun damage and has the capacity to promote collagen production. [11]

This anti-inflammatory anti-oxidant is filled with skin-friendly nutrients. It smooths fine lines and wrinkles.

Flowering Camellia Sinensis

Flowering Camellia Sinensis

Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract

Camellia Sinensis Leaf are the leaves of Green Tea. Green tea contains polyphenols that soothe skin while providing antioxidants. Polyphenols may improve sun-damaged skin. [12]

High in Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), green tea promotes skin health and appearance. It protects against environmental damage and neutralizes free radicals that prematurely age skin. Research shows EGCG reactivates dying skin cells. This shows promise for repairing sun damage and scar healing. [13]

Retinyl Palmitate

Retinyl Palmitate is a form of Vitamin A. This antioxidant found naturally in our skin. Retinyl Palmitate helps with wrinkles and fine lines. It promotes cell regeneration. It also boosts collagen production to make skin look younger and plumper.

Vitamin A’s can cause some topical skin irritation. The omegas in the CBD and other buffering ingredients within this formulation ensure that it will not cause peeling or irritate the skin. If your skin is too sensitive to tolerate retinol, consider this formulation as a viable option.

Cetearyl Olivate

Cetearyl Olivate is a combination of the ester of Cetearyl Alcohol and the fatty acids from Olives. It is not drying because Cetearyl Olivate is moisture attracting and retaining. Olive oil fatty acids have skin-enhancing Omega-3s and polyphenols. These make skin glow! Cetearyl Olivate will not clog pores.

Sorbitan Olivate

Sorbitan Olivate is a combination of the fatty acids of olives and a fruit-based sugar alcohol. It is commonly paired with Cetearyl Olivate to lend a creamy consistency. Moisturizing.

Vitis Vinifera

Vitis Vinifera is Grape Seed Oil. Grapeseed Oil on StyleChicksGrape Seed Oil is nourishing to the skin and contains building blocks for collagen production. Grape Seed Oil contains very high antioxidant levels to protect the skin against UV damage.

High in Polyphenols, Vitamins C, D, E and Omega 6, it treats dry skin, wrinkles, discoloration, and aging.

Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides

Capric Triglyceride naturally occurs in palm kernel or coconut oil. It is a mixed ester composed of caprylic and capric fatty acids attached to glycerin.

Coconut Oil

Capric Triglyceride from Coconut Oil

Caprylic/capric triglyceride is a natural skin replenishing emollient that creates a barrier on the skin’s surface, which helps to reduce skin dryness by decreasing the loss of moisture. [14]

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is one of the cleanest ingredients with no reported toxicity, it is safe enough to be food grade.

What it does Not contain
  • Formaldehyde
  • Parabens
  • Phthalates
  • Propylene Glycol
  • Sulfates

Research-Backed Clean Luxury Beauty: Sacred Mama Organics SuperFood Beauty Oil

February 26, 2020 · 15 Comments

Watercress is an unsung skin hero. It is packed with skin-nourishing, rejuvenating nutrients. We love Watercress because it enhances collagen III (baby collagen) AND elastin. So we’re over the moon to learn of a Watercress-based beauty oil: Sacred Mama Organics SuperFood Beauty Oil. This oil contains decadently nutritive, organic ingredients. Research studies show these ingredients each support skin rejuvenation.
Sacred Mama Organics SuperFood Beauty Oil has a watercress base.

Sacred Mama Organics SuperFood Beauty Oil has a watercress base.

Sacred Mama Organics SuperFood Beauty Oil is the beauty brainchild of Sacred Mama Organics founder Judy Beserra. This organic oil packs in beauty powerhouses like Pomegranate, Royal Jelly, Abyssinian Seed and Rosehip Oils. The true star of this oil, however, is “baby collagen”-making Watercress.

Watercress is a secret anti-aging weapon.

Watercress is a secret anti-aging weapon.

Wonderful, Wonderful Watercress

Sacred Mama Organics SuperFood Beauty Oil is a non-comedogenic Watercress-based oil. It is suitable for daily use and beauty emergencies.

We previously posted exciting skincare research identifying the exact mechanism of the skin resiliency changes that cause rougher skin and overall skin aging. The study cited that Watercress reverses these skin issues by promoting Collagen III production in the dermal cells. Collagen III is known as baby collagen because it is plentiful at birth but diminishes with age.  Collagen III must regenerate in the dermal cells of the papillary dermis skin layer to reverse signs of aging. [1] Watercress can do this.

Watercress also contains many skin-enhancing nutrients. One example is copper. Copper builds both collagen and elastin.

Elastin gives skin its’ springy, vibrant, youthful bounce. Elastin is as important as collagen, but fewer products address elastin restoration. And even fewer restore the collagen and elastin fibers in the dermal cells.

Watercress is only one of the many skin-enhancing ingredients in this amazing formulation.

Application & Use

Apply after cleansing on slightly damp skin. Just four to six drops moisturized my entire face and throat. Gently massage and press the oil into face, throat, and décolletage etage. Skin looks dewy snd hydrated.

I love using this oil after an evening facial steam! I love using this oil with my jade roller to encourage the absorption of every last drop.

Sunscreen and makeup do not pill on top of this oil.

Scent

Very mild to no discernible scent within the bottle. Slightly natural and leafy, a bit citrusy. I cannot detect any scent on the dry down.

Science of Skincare: The GroundBreaking Collagen & Skin Elasticity Study For Ninja Level Anti-Aging

February 26, 2020 · 2 Comments

Amongst the countless skincare products and procedures out there, what REALLY restores collagen? A recent study revealed facts that may alter what products you use in the fight against dull, aging skin.

The Collagen Conundrum

There are many collagen types in our body. Each collagen type has a function. Effective anti-aging skincare is not just restoring some form of collagen on areas of visible aging. It requires producing the right kind of collagen in the right place. This gives skin resilience and elasticity. Tricky, right?

We knew the deeper the skin can be stimulated to produce new collagen, the less facial sagging there will be.  That’s still true, but now there is more intel.

The Super Science-y Skin Study

A groundbreaking skin study revealed the composition of live young and aging skin.  It looked at the baby collagen in the skin. It noted the changes in elasticity with age in the twenties, thirties, and forties.

Special technology imaged the internal elasticity of the skin. It noted the concentration of the individual collagen fibers. They located which ones made skin elastic, taut and youthful. The location and impact of these concentrated collagen clusters were new information.

“The team also studied how the variations in skin elasticity in the papillary dermis would change the look of the skin and discovered that the skin surface of females without any signs of variations in elasticity was more likely to be smooth, whereas that of females with decreased elasticity looked slightly rough” [1]

The Result

The result? Now we know exactly WHERE we need to restore collagen. And we know which type of collagen rejuvenates skin and keeps it “springy”

“The team has found out that type III collagen is abundant in the areas with healthy skin elasticity in the uppermost layer of the dermis, but it decreases in the parts where the skin elasticity has deteriorated. This suggests that the decrease in type III collagen triggers the decrease in skin elasticity” [2]

In sum: what makes skin healthy, elastic and vibrant is collagen III within the dermal cells of the papillary dermis skin layer.

And the study identified the exact ingredient to accomplish the task. It is an ingredient that appears in skincare brands like Shiseido and Tatcha. It is also a natural ingredient that can be organically farmed. It’s Watercress. Yep, Watercress.

what to do About It

Henceforth, beauty buddies, we tackle anti-aging with the precision of a vapid ninja.

We‘re featuring select products using Watercress to best advantage to precisely target Collagen III production in the proper dermal cells.

And there are some great skin products in this lineup, including an all-natural Beauty Superfood oil with a Watercress base.

OUR SIGI SKIN EXPERIENCE

I first used it one morning, as I mentally was going through my to-do list and generally distracted. I had patch-tested it for reactions a few days prior, so I knew it had a nice jelly-like texture and subtle Eucalyptus scent.

But then as I applied it to my face and started massaging it in, my mental to-do list melted away as I realized that the texture and sensation of this face wash was a world of difference from my standard cleansers, all of which I considered pretty great.

I literally said “OH WOW!” out loud.

So…continuing the recommended 120 seconds of face washing felt like a glorious but fleeting spa treatment. I delighted in making small, gentle circles around my face with my fingertips

Another surprise came when I washed it off: despite the medium-jelly consistency, it washed off clean and without any scrubbing. My face was truly clean: no vestiges of last night’s skincare routine. And for as gentle as the cleanser is, it had taken off a mild layer of dead skin that was leaving my skin a little dull. My face had a healthy glow, which is a great way to start a morning!

As I went about my morning routine, I noticed something interesting, even though my skin felt truly and deeply clean, it wasn’t at all tight feeling. That is usually the trade-off: there are a lot of good cleansers that give you a deep clean feeling, but also strip your skin of moisture and leave it feeling tight. Not so with Sigi Skin Kaleanser Face Wash. My skin was moisturized and so, so soft.
