Due to the large amount of wavy hair I had, my nickname in high school was Medusa. Lyn’s nickname was also Medusa. Short story, the Style Chicks Sisters have a lot of hair.
Despite that, I’m always in the market for thickening and strengthening treatments. No matter how much hair you have, it just won’t look good if it’s not thick and strong, all the more so if it is long. It’s the difference between hair that needs a scissors taken to it and long, lush locks.
Oscar Blandi Hair Lift Instant Thickening & Strengthening Serum
As you know, I’m a fan of all things Blandi, so when the good folks at Lock & Mane sent me Oscar Blandi Hair Lift Instant Thickening & Strengthening Serum to check out, I was pretty excited. It’s a heat activated formula that imparts as much volume as you’d like, ranging from a little extra bounce to full out bombshell hair, all while keeping strands soft. In fact, it really doesn’t feel like you have any product in after application and styling. Just full, lush, soft, super shiny hair. The shine was a pleasant surprise – it might be due to the Wheat Protein in the formula but there are a couple of ingredients that may be responsible for taking my occasional blonde strand and making it look like spun gold.
Kind of like moisturizer, it is the first product that you apply to your hair when styling it. While it’s meant for use on wet hair, I got fantastic results when I used it on dry hair and then ran a blowdryer over my hair for ~ 1 minute to activate it with heat and style it. That was probably the most tousled “Sophia Loren” looking I’ve gotten my hair in quite some time.
I styled with it after washing my hair in both the hard well water at home and soft water when I was travelling, and I think it works a little better in soft water. Usually it’s the opposite for me – I get better results from a styling product with hard water, but this works great with both. I’m thrilled to find a product that I can toss in my weekend bag and know I’ll get great style regardless of what the water is like there!
The directions say to use a dime sized amount, and that’s about right. I used a little more on a day that I wanted some extra volume at the crown, but it doesn’t take much of the silky formula to coat even long, thick hair. I love how my hair feels so strong and silky all the way down to the ends…it is kinda hard to keep my hands out of my hair when I use it. Since only a dime sized amount is needed, the 1.7 bottle will last you awhile, even with everyday use. And with continued use, your hair will get stronger and thicker – I love products that style and improve the condition of hair at the same time!

I spent a couple of months this Spring speculating how long it would be before it would be warm enough that I could leave the gym with post-shower wet hair. There is just something kind of liberating about washing your hair, putting it up with a hair stick, and heading on your way. And over the past month or so, Lyn and I have started drying our hair less. Sometimes we let our hair air dry all the way, sometimes most of the way and then a quick style with a blowdryer, sometimes we pull out our handy dry shampoos.
My hairstyle formative years were in the 1990s. Add to that the fact that Lyn received constant comparisons to Julia Roberts circa Mystic Pizza at the time, and I received constant comparisons to Lyn (though not to Julia Roberts), and let’s just say any product that delivers volume was good in my book.
