FIRST IMPRESSIONS

This is a very thick, creamy conditioner, almost a concentrated consistency like a thick moisturizer but not as thick as a buttercream.

I was excited to see many of the ingredients contained within this conditioner, as they have been successful on my hair when used in DIY hair mask tutorials, such as Coconut Oil. But when used directly on the hair, many of these ingredients are often difficult to rinse out because they are so emollient and oily. However, within this conditioner, I found them to rinse cleanly.

APPLICATION AND USE

It required less Allurials conditioner to coat my hair than I tend to use with some other brands. And it soaked in quickly.

TIP: Rub it between wet palms to fully emulsify it, like you would for a good, thick facial moisturizer like Creme de la Mer.

Then I coated my hair and even my scalp and massaged it into my hair so it could absorb. It made for a good scalp massage. It did not feel as slippery or gooey as conditioners typically feel while in the hair, it felt more like a hair styling cream. It also seemed to sink into my hair instead of staying on the surface.

There really is no scent. Even lots of hypoallergenic brands have a scent, albeit light and non-irritating. I smelled nothing.

Since it was not a slippery coating sitting on the surface of my hair, it was difficult to assess when I considered the conditioner washed out of my hair when rinsing. Because of this, I took a bit longer to rinse out than some conditioners, but it was still much less time to rinse out than when I use any of these natural items directly on my hair, such as washing out Coconut Oil or an Avacado hair mask. It did wash out completely and cleanly however without leaving a residue.

VERDICT:

My hair felt strong and hydrated, even my dry ends felt smoother. My scalp felt good and my hair looked shiny and was soft after use.

Because it is not scented, I can even use Allurials Fragrance-Free Conditioner in my hair overnight and wash it out in the morning without getting signs of fragrance irritation such as puffy eyes or a sniffly nose. It does not stain my pillowcase. Â This makes it also useful as a pre-poo hair treatment and it is creamy enough to stay put as a deep conditioning hair mask if it is combed into hair while exercising or watching a movie.

It can be parted almost anywhere and look natural when brushed or pinned back; there are no “plugs” of hair.
It doesn’t shed excessively, even when brushed or styled

PACKAGING AND FIRST IMPRESSION

The wig comes well packaged in a large drawstring bag. It’s SO silky. At first, almost *too* silky, I thought, to be believed to be *my* unruly hair, even if professionally straightened. I gave it a quick brushing and put it on a styrofoam head and let it “breathe” overnight. It became fluffier and more realistically like what my hair would look like on a superb hair day with a professional blowout. Pretty!

PUTTING HEAT RESISTANCE TO THE TEST: STYLING THE Bhairextension WIG WITH HOT TOOLS

To test the heat resistant properties of the Bhairextension wig we tried:

T3 Voluminous Hot Rollers (for curling and volume, low heat setting – best soft wavy curl)
a curling iron (best tight curl)
InStyler (re-straighten curled hair)
Caruso Molecular Steam Rollers (small, medium and larger rollers, good for volume)
CHI Ion Hair Dryer (precise temperature control)

RESULTS

My hair straighteners, curling wands, and hot rollers could all be used on the wig as long as the temperature stays below 397 F degrees (200 C). The curls were springy and stayed put, and the flat iron and Instyler made the wig sleek again.

The wig also did well with steam curlers like my Caruso Molecular Steam curler, although the moisture gave it a bit of a temporarily thicker and rougher texture. Like my real hair, after putting in the steam curlers, a quick shot with my CHI hair dryer on the curlers before removing them helped set the curl. The curls don’t droop or frizz all day!

The wig performed well with each and every one of these heat styling tools! It is exciting to have a full array of styling options, including styles I would not allocate so much time to in the morning to create but could style a day or two in advance.

TIP: Use wrapping papers, or a piece of tissue paper, to wrap each hair sections before using steam curlers around a wig to retain the super silky feel of the hair and to avoid getting a bump or ridge from the curler clip.

FLAT IRON TIP: Run your flat iron over the hair at about 1 inch per second, no need to “clamp and hold” like human hair.

CURLING IRON TIP: For curls that stay put until re-straightened, hold the curl for 45 – 60 seconds and release the iron. Pin or clip the curl and allow it to cool.

STYLING & RESULTS

The hair moves and swings naturally, and the cut is realistic with some hairs appearing shorter just like actual hair. It is soft, silky, and the curls last.

TIP: I weave and snake the handle of a rattail comb along the part to achieve a slightly uneven but natural looking part.

CONCLUSION

A realistic hairline with the appearance of a professional blowout, this Bhairextension wig lets me channel my inner Rapunzel for a day! With thick ends with bounce and movement, it behaves like healthy hair. The best feature in my book is the endless hot tool styling options that I can do in advance and quickly put on the wig, and the curl retention is excellent, my curls don’t droop. A chignon or low ponytail looks amazing with this wig, I can lightly curl the ends in advance, and it remains so bouncy and silky! Also, it makes for a great option if you oversleep and don’t want to just wear your hair in a messy bun!
