Summer Moscow Mule Recipe: Wild Raspberry & Watermelon Featuring the Kamojo Moscow Mule Copper Flutes Set

August 19, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Looking for the perfect drink for an end of summer party or festive occasion? There are always the quintessential classics, but it’s fun to customize some drinks with a new, signature twist. Summer is filled with such luscious fruits, the perfect opportunity to change up some of our favorites! One drink that’s especially adaptable is the Moscow Mule. You only need a few key elements for a successful Moscow Mule, and the rest of the ingredients allow for creativity and customization. Our current Moscow Mule obsession? Raspberry Watermelon Moscow Mules! See our recipe below.

The inspiration for this summer drink comes from two things: the wild raspberries are out in full force the garden this time of year, and we want an excuse to use our new pure copper Kamojo Moscow Mule Copper Flutes Set

Serve an end-of-summer Moscow Mule in these Kamojo Copper Champagne Flutes

WHY A PURE COPPER DRINKING VESSEL IS IMPORTANT FOR MOSCOW MULES

While you can serve a Moscow Mule in just about any kind of glass, copper is preferable. I prefer the Kamojo Moscow Mules because the pure copper has a tarnish resistant coating, so they stay beautiful and shiny without having to polish them, making them easy to clean. We previously touted what we love about the classic mug style Kamojo Moscow Mules in a beginning of summer Moscow Mule recipe, Kamojo also makes a copper champagne flute set for a festive, more formal, or celebratory event.

Kamojo Moscow Mule Copper Flute

I also like the pretty hammered pure copper with its’ tarnish-resistant high-shine and the beautiful shape, it adds something to the overall visual appeal of the drink and looks so distinctive!

The beautiful hammered copper pattern

The hammered copper of the Kamojo Champagne Flutes looks beautiful in many festive occasion tablescape color palettes

What’s a good type of drink to serve in a copper champagne flute? As a rule: if it’s bubbly or fizzy – copper kicks that carbonated or bubbly action it up a notch: any seltzer, soda, beer and of course, champagne or prosecco. Also, if it’s a drink best served cold, copper is your best bet.

The reason for this is copper does two things: it quickly makes cold ingredients colder, and bubbly ingredients bubblier. That’s why a copper vessel is a key to a good Moscow Mule, especially for a summertime drink.

Pure copper immediately chills the drink and keeps it cold on contact

Copper also enhances the flavor of some ingredients, enhancing the crisp, citrus and sour notes of go-to ingredients like ginger, lime, and cucumbers.

The pure copper in the Kamojo Moscow Mule Copper Flutes Set enhances the flavors of mint, berries, lime, and ginger and even makes vodka taste better

INGREDIENT CHOICES

A key ingredient to a Moscow Mule is ginger beer. Ginger adds the kick to the mule and is generally obtained from ginger beer or in a pinch, a quality brewed ginger ale. The ginger ale is sweeter, the ginger beer is tarter and for some, might need the addition of simple syrup. I also like to add a thin slice of fresh ginger as part of a garnish or muddled at the bottom of the drinking vessel, or if you prefer your drinks a bit sweeter, a ginger simple syrup can be used.

Copper enhances the taste of fresh ginger and ginger beers and ginger ales

FRUITY INCLUSION OPTIONS

Lime and ginger are the core classics of the mule, and plenty of fruits taste great with both of them.

Copper enhances the lime and berries taste and increases carbonation of ginger beers and ales

Store bought and wild raspberries are abundant and delicious this time of year.

Reed’s brews both a gluten-free ginger beer and ginger ales with real cane sugar and they are pretty good in mules. Their raspberry ginger ale has all the kick and fizzy features of a ginger beer. Raspberry Ginger Beer or Ale makes sense in a mule, as so many of the ingredients in a Moscow Mule taste great with raspberries: raspberry and lime, raspberry and mint, raspberry and ginger. But it still needs something to make it more summer, and a bit juicer and sweeter: like watermelon!

Ice cold Ginger Beer or Ale blends well with summer fruits and vodka

Raspberry Ginger Ale or Beer brews taste great in a fruity Moscow Mule when paired with fresh berries, mint, and lime

But lots of fruit combinations work: blackberries, lime, plum or pear and cantaloupe is a delicious alternative option, the cantaloupe and plum sweetly temper the ginger and the blackberries add a nice sweet but tart note. Or another option that goes surprisingly well with the ginger is lemon and fig!

Cantaloupe mellows the sharp ginger and citrus notes, mint and blackberries add a subtle sweet taste to the blend

Substitute cantaloupe juice for watermelon juice in the recipe below, and pair it with blackberries

Cantaloupe and blackberries paired with lime, mint and ginger taste wonderful in a copper flute

Summer fruits peak the Ginger Beer

Summer fruits peak Ginger Beers and Ales and contrast nicely with the citrus flavor of the lime. Any berry works wonderfully to add some flavor to this traditional drink

THE STYLE CHICKS WILD RASPBERRY MELON END OF SUMMER MOSCOW MULE RECIPE

Just in time for your final farewell end-of summer soirees, summer picnics, a signature drink for summer weddings and celebrations, and for your end of summer blowouts.

Ready to make a summer fruit Moscow Mule?

INGREDIENTS:

  • crushed or soft ice (see recipe below)
  • Wild or purchased raspberries (or blackberries if preferred)
  • watermelon
  • mint sprigs
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 4 ounces of ginger beer or tart ginger ale (we chose Reed’s Brewed Raspberry Ginger Ale and skipped the simple syrup)
  • 3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • fresh ginger (optional)
  • 1/4 ounce simple syrup (optional)

Summer watermelon, fresh ginger, lime, combined with raspberries and mint fresh from the garden make for tasty combination

DIRECTIONS

  1. Juice the limes. Set aside remaining lime slices for garnishing.
  2. Make watermelon juice. Put watermelon chunks in a blender, discard pulp if desired, pour the juice into a jar or glass, put aside.
  3. Muddle together a few raspberries, and lightly press a mint leaf and a thin slice of ginger (if desired). Pour the resulting mix into the copper mule.
  4. Add the lime juice over the muddled mix.
  5. Fill mule champagne with crushed or slushie ice, over the muddled mix. Halfway through adding ice, I like to toss in a few more berries and then another squeeze of the lime to fully infuse the drink.
  6. Add the vodka
  7. Add the melon juice
  8. Add the ginger beer
  9. Add simple syrup if desired for sweetness
  10. Garnish with plenty of fresh mint sprigs, berries, lime or even a small watermelon wedge if desired!

Garnish with plenty of mint sprigs!

ALTERNATIVES

  • Some may prefer a “neater” approach to mix the lime juice, vodka, melon juice, and in a shaker with the spent limes and giving the mix a good shake, then pour that shaker mix through a strainer into the ice filled mule glass, and then add the ginger beer to the mule.
  • Adjust measurements to taste, some extra lime particularly enhances the berries and watermelon!

Extra lime enhances the berry and watermelon flavors, we added a halved lime to each mule

SOFT ICE

Notice reference to soft ice above. Soft ice is not as hard as ice cubes, but harder than slushie ice. It is often served at Drive-In type restaurants, which remind me of the summers of my youth.

Due to the lovely flute shape of the Kamojo Moscow Mule Copper Flutes Set, you may prefer crushed or soft ice. It is easy to make yourself at home with a big bottle of carbonated water like seltzer water.

Fill smaller to medium-size ice-cube trays with the seltzer, let them set a few hours. Right before using them, give them one or two hard whacks to break them up a bit. While soft ice tends to melt quickly in a regular drink, the copper mules keep them suspended in soft ice form for much longer without melting.

CONCLUSION

So many events and milestones are worth celebrating, engagements, promotions, graduations, weddings, just to name a few. Champagne is often the go-to libation for celebrating, but it is fun to change it up a bit with a mule themed drink, and it still feels festive and celebratory when served in Kamojo Moscow Mule Copper Flutes Set.

A traditional bakery not far from the Yale University Campus, we get all our special occasion cakes here! From now on, any event or celebration worthy of a bakery cake qualifies as an excuse to use the Kamajo Copper Champagne Flutes

Kamajo Copper Champagne Flutes are ideal as wedding flutes for the bride and groom or even the entire bridal party, or to serve appetizers such as shrimp cocktail.

Summer fruit-filled Kamojo Copper Moscow Mules Champagne Flutes: Icy cold, satisfying, festive, and definitively summer!

Recipes for Summer Entertaining: Kamojo Moscow Mule Pure Copper Mug Set

May 3, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Looking for the perfect summer cocktail? Think Moscow Mule. There are many delicious variations on this tart, crisp, refreshing classic. Want our secret to the perfect Moscow Mule? Use plenty of ice, Premium Ginger Beer and a high-quality, 100% pure copper mug like Kamojo Moscow Mule Pure Copper Mug Set.

The 100% Pure Copper in the Komojo Moscow Mule Mugs is a secret weapon of Moscow Mule drink success. Read more to find out why

The Pure Copper in this Kamojo Moscow Mule Mugs is a secret weapon for Moscow Mule drink success. It keeps the drink cold and enhances the flavor of the ingredients.

What do you need for the best Moscow Mule?

  1. Plenty of ice
  2. Use Ginger Beer, not Ginger Ale. Ginger Beer’s robust, tangy kick gives this drink its’ distinctive taste. Ginger Beer isn’t alcohol; it’s a ginger brew soft drink made from a starter culture of ginger beer plant.
  3. Don’t let the ice melt so much that it dilutes the drink. Diluted Ginger Beer is, well, meh.

But how do you stop ice from melting on a hot day and watering down the tangy zip of your mule? Use Kamojo Moscow Mule Copper Mugs.

WHY USE KAMOJO COPPER MUGS FOR MOSCOW MULES?

A classic drink looks its’ best in their signature style glassware. It’s part of the drinks’ personality. A martini may technically taste the same in a martini glass or a plastic sippy cup, but it doesn’t have that cool James-Bond-drinking-a-martini *feel* without the quintessential V-shaped glass with the long stem, does it?

With Moscow Mule mugs, it’s more than just the drinks’ signature look: the copper interacts with the ingredients to enhance the drink itself. And when it comes to Moscow Mules, the more copper content in the mug, the better.

Komojo Pure Copper Moscow Mule mugs won't tarnish, have a hammered design and are 100% pure copper - no tin.

COPPER FEATURES:

Komojo Copper Mugs are 100% pure copper, not plated nickel. Pure copper makes for the best Moscow Mule drink because:

  • ICE COLD DRINKS: Copper (or in the case of Komojo Mule Mugs, PURE copper) conducts cold and keeps a drink cold. Drinks with even a few ice cubes, when in a copper mule quickly become straight-from-the-freezer-cold. And they stay cold, even in hot weather, and even when warm hands are holding the drink, the copper keeps the beverage frosty and the ice regulated down to the last sip. There are no melted-ice-watered-down drinks in a 100% copper mug like the Komojo. A big part of what makes any Mule-category of drink so refreshing is the coldness of the drink.
  • COPPER RETAINS CARBONATED BUBBLES: Copper keeps the bubbles or fizzy liquids carbonated longer, so the ginger beer, seltzer, or ginger ales don’t go flat even when the drink stands for hours, enjoyed at a leisurely pace. A pure copper tends to increase the bubbles within the drink.
  • FLAVOR-ENHANCING: Copper enhances the tangy notes of citrus in your mules including the lime by controlling chemical ionization rate of the acids in those fruits. That results in a tangy but softer acidity that is optimal to compliment but not drown out the spicy ginger notes. Copper also enhances the flavor of the mint and ginger. It’s also said that when Vodka touches the walls of the cold copper mug, the copper oxidizes a bit, heightening the flavor of the vodka.
  • CAPACITY: Another reason the KaMojo Moscow Mule mug is optimal for Moscow Mules is it holds a larger quantity of liquid. The drink is about 7-9 total ounces liquid, plus lots of ice, and generally, fruit inclusions. KaMojo Mule Mugs have a 16-ounce capacity, leaving plenty of room for ice and garnishes.

WHY CHOOSE KAMOJO

Since copper is so critical to the success of a good Moscow Mule drink, quality copper is essential in a mug. Kamajo Mule mugs are pure copper, keeping your drink perfectly chilled, so the Ginger Beer tastes its’ best.

  • NO TARNISH: The copper is treated with protective lacquer, so it stays shiny with no polishing, it is easy to clean, there is no black spots, no tarnish.
  • HAMMERED: The hammered design suits the “look” of modern, urban, and traditional decors. Hammered copper also manages to keep drinks even colder than non-hammered copper.
  • SHOT GLASS & COASTERS: The set comes with a matching copper shot glass and two hammered copper coasters.

MOSCOW MULE RECIPES

The kit also comes with numerous mule recipes to try with your Moscow Mule Mugs. Plenty of ideas to put your mugs to use this summer.

THE STYLECHICKS MOSCOW MULE RECIPE

The traditional Moscow Mule is simple: squeeze lime juice into the mug, add ice, pour in the vodka then the Ginger Beer, garnish with lime. Done.

But since the Kamojo Mugs are hammered and pure copper and therefore enhance certain flavors so well, we gave them a proper test run and added some extra flavors to our recipe.

We found the combination of Blackberries, ginger, lime and mint to be great go-togethers with the flavor enhancing properties of our Komojo Moscow Mules. If berries aren’t in season yet, a simple syrup can add some sweetness. If you prefer tart to sweet, some fresh ginger slices also work.

Depending on your preferred flavor, muddle some extra fresh ginger (tarter) or berries (sweeter) in the bottom of the KaMojo mug.

MORE MOSCOW MULE RECIPE IDEAS

  • KENTUCKY MULE: Instead of Vodka, use Bourbon. For a twist on this classic, grate in some fresh ginger. Pair Bourbon with peaches and basil, they taste great with the lime and ginger.
  • Muddle basil or cilantro with mint at the base of the copper mug to have a less sweet, less tart, but still notable spice dimension
  • TOO SWEET? Add ginger lemon bitters
  • TOO SHARP? Add Elderflower or Simple Syrup to soften the tanginess of the ginger.

CONCLUSION

The secret to a perfect Mule drink, this Komojo Moscow Mule Mugs Set is made of 100% pure copper, keeping the drink icy-cold to the last drop. The pure copper enhances the fizzy carbonation and brings out the flavors of citrus, mint, lime, blackberries or even pineapple or peach for a perfect summer drink. The hammered copper is attractive and keeps drinks even colder. Easy to care for and clean, the mugs can also keep margarita, tequila, mint julep, infused water, iced coffee and tea deliciously cold. The inclusion of the copper shot glass and coasters to match the attractive hammered copper set makes an ideal gift for a friend who loves unique gifts for entertaining or for yourself!

Happy Hour: Kamojo Moscow Mule Copper Mugs Gift Set

Kamojo Moscow Mule Copper Mugs Gift Set

Kamojo Moscow Mule Copper Mugs Gift Set

This Kamojo Gift Box Set is a set of two copper Moscow Mule mugs. Moscow Mule Copper Mugs are the best way to serve the Moscow Mule drink. A favored drink for when the weather is hot and muggy, a Moscow Mule served in a copper mug is especially delicious. And the Moscow Mule is a great drink for entertaining because it is a tasty melody of flavors but easy to mix. Mules are perfect for a hot summer afternoon party, BBQ or picnic, especially since carrying around a cool beverage in a copper mug is refreshing in of itself.

WHY USE COPPER MUGS FOR YOUR MOSCOW MULES?
A classic drink should have a signature style glassware. Martinis, margaritas, champagne, or a scotch: the classics all have their signature style unique glassware. But a copper mule is more than just the decorative component to a Mule drink; it MAKES the drink. Simply put, the copper keeps your ice-cold drink cold, as in super crazy cold, despite the hot weather and your warm hands holding your drink. Part of what makes any Mule-category of drink so tasty is the iciness of the drink. Both Moscow Mules and Kentucky Mules are especially refreshing when served ice-cold. While you could have a Moscow Mule or a Kentucky Mule in a regular glass, the mug is part of the fun, and it is large enough to hold the volume of the drink. But most importantly, it chills to the temperature of the drink almost immediately and keeps it cold. Copper also tends to bring out the flavor of the ingredients.

Copper also is very pretty on a tablescape and complements the look of modern, eclectic, urban and traditional decor or table setting.

WHY USE KAMOJO MOSCOW MULES
In addition to being very well constructed and much prettier than many of the copper mugs available, this particular set of KAMOJO Moscow Mule Copper Mugs has the distinct advantage of a protective coating. It is a maintenance-free alternative to traditional copper that can quickly dull or tarnish. The protective lacquer keeps the beautiful luster without the work of regularly polishing the copperware. It also, in my opinion, made them much easier to clean after each use. The handles are secure, and the mugs are steady. The copper is not thin or a veneer, it is a good solid set of copper mugs. Something else I like about these Kamojo Copper Mugs is they are more stylized and attractive than many mugs, they have a larger, easy-to-use handle, and they are easier to grip in the hand. Thi set also comes with a lovely set of copper straws for mixing.

STYLECHICKS ADAPTED MOSCOW MULE RECIPE
The one potential disadvantage is the Moscow Mule can at times be a particularly strong tasting drink. If you prefer something on the sweeter or fruitier side, or perhaps with less alcohol content, here is both the traditional Moscow Mule recipe and a StyleChicks adapted Moscow Mule recipe that we have been enjoying since we got our Moscow Mule copper mugs:

TRADITIONAL MOSCOW MULE INGREDIENTS
1/2 oz. lime juice
1 1/4 – 2 oz. vodka
4-6 oz. ginger beer (Reed’s is the most authentic, but other brands are also tasty

STYLECHICKS MODIFIED INGREDIENTS:

  1. For vodka, we chose a flavored vodka for sweetness
  2. For Ginger Beer, you can use Ginger Ale from the same traditional vendor (Reed’s) for the same sharp ginger taste without the alcohol. Minimum of 4-6 ounces in the mug. Chill in advance.
  3. For Lime Juice we did fresh squeezed and kept the pulp for some extra tanginess.
  4. Ice. OPTIONAL: Add lime juice directly into your ice cube tray when freezing to retain the flavor tangy even when the ice melts.
  5. We added candied ginger slices for garnish
  6. A dash of simple syrup, we used White Ginger Simple Syrup

And of course, copper Moscow Mule mugs

Directions

  1. Fill the Moscow Mule Copper Mug with ice cubes.
  2. Add the lime juice
  3.  Pour in 1 1/4 oz of vodka then fill the rest of the mug with the cold ginger beer or ale, about 4-6 ounces, to taste.
  4. Add a dash of Simple Syrup if desired
  5. Stir
  6. Add a garnish(es) to taste of a thin slice of fresh ginger, or candied ginger, lime wedge
  7. Serve with a stirring rod.

I like to use a lightly sweetened flavored vodka since the ginger and lime are both tart and the vodka can be strong. I choose a vanilla vodka because the vanilla brings out the ginger taste while still being sweet, but it is just your preference, you can also just use Simple Syrup to taste.

Kamojo Moscow Mule Copper Mugs Gift Set

Kamojo Moscow Mule Copper Mugs Gift Set

CONCLUSION: Copper Mugs can make or break a good Kentucky Mule or Moscow Mule drink, the copper reacts well with the ginger and vodka to create the best flavor, and the copper keeps your drink ice-cold to the last savory drop. These Kamojo Copper Mugs are very attractive, sturdy, easy to use set of mugs. And they are easy to maintain because of the protective coating; the copper retains the beautiful luster.
