Original Sleek Vitamin C Cream What to Know

November 26, 2022 · 4 Comments

REVIEW Original Sleek Vitamin C Cream with ingredients explained. Original Sleek Vitamin C Cream Ingredients support sensitive skin use.

Vitamin C and Retinol are the skincare holy grail because they benefit adult skin of any age. But sensitive skin types often cannot tolerate daily topical Vitamin C application. So we are excited to find Original Sleek Vitamin C Cream which is non-comedogenic, cruelty-free and contains natural moisturizing ingredients to support Vitamin C use, even on sensitive skin types.

Original Sleek Vitamin C Cream contains powerful Vitamin C & natural ingredients for clear skin

What are the Skincare Benefits of Vitamin C?

What are the skincare benefits of Vitamin C?

Vitamin C is applied topically for targeted skin-rejuvenation. It is an anti-aging, acne reducing, and is a age spot, scar, and dark pigmentation fading powerhouse.

Vitamin C is an Anti-Aging

Vitamin C is a building block for collagen synthesis. Collagen is the support structure of the skin. Vitamin C reduces wrinkles and discoloration.

Vitamin C Counteracts Sun Damage

Sun damage is highly aging to the skin. It can cause a leathery skin texture even on younger skin.

Vitamin C also improves sun-damage such as hyper-pigmentation and rough skin texture.

Vitamin C Helps Acne

Vitamin C reduces inflammation on existing acne to reduce the lifestyle of a blemish. It also prevents future acne breakouts. And it fades old acne scars, even dark cystic marks.

What are Original Sleek Vitamin C Cream Benefits?

Not every Vitamin C product works on sensitive skin. Original Sleek Vitamin C uses a water-soluble vitamin C derivative which is much gentler to skin but just as effective. Unlike direct Vitamin C forms, it converts into Vitamin C upon application. This means less skin irritation.

We like the Original Sleek Vitamin C formulation because:

  • it is non-comedogenic
  • it is cruelty-free
  • no unwanted additives such as gluten, parabens, phthalates, SLS, SLES, and petroleum.
  • it contains buffering ingredients to support regular Vitamin C use without irritation
  • it has opaque packaging to keep ingredients fresh
  • it contains ingredients which work together for fresher, brighter skin
Original Sleek Vitamin C comes in opaque packaging with one pump dispenser

In addition to Vitamin C, Original Sleek Vitamin C Cream contains helpful supporting ingredients. Let’s take a look:

Key Ingredients

Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate

Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate is a Vitamin C for sensitive skin, it is a water-soluble Vitamin C derivative. It is particularly beneficial to revive dull skin. Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate is less exfoliating than other Cs but still produces collagen and suppresses melanin formation.[1]

Glycyrrhiza Glabra Root Extract

Licorice root contains glabridin, a potent antioxidant that soothes skin. It gently lightens dark circles and improves uneven tone. It is safe for even sensitive skin. [2]

Chamomile

Matricaria Recutita Flower Extract

Matricaria Recutita Flower Extract is chamomile. Chamomile is an antioxidant with potent skin-soothing action. [3] It contains Terpenoids, bisabolol and chamazulene. Chamomile Extract is excellent in a formulation with powerful actives because its’ flavones inhibit skin inflammation. [4] The apigenin in Chamomile protects the skin barrier [5]. Chamomile Extract kills acne-causing bacteria without irritation. [6]

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic Acid is a natural bHA. Salicylic Acid purges clogged pores without excess drying the skin surface.

The lovely Flowering Tea Tree

The lovely flowering Tea Tree, Melaleuca alternifolia

Melaleuca Alternifolia

Melaleuca Alternifolia is better known as tea tree oil. Melaleuca oil contains terpinen-4-ol, which is an amazing antibacterial and antifungal.[7,8]

It is also a moisturizing toner, cleanser and astringent. It effectively treats acne and prevents future breakouts [9]. It is not drying like other acne-treating ingredients, so it is effective on sensitive skin and adult acne. It even treats cystic acne.[10]

Tocopheryl Acetate

Tocopheryl Acetate is Vitamin E, an excellent skin softener.

Aloe Vera

                        Aloe Vera

Aloe Leaf Juice

Aloe Vera Juice comes from the Aloe Vera plant. Aloe Vera nourishes skin with Vitamins A, C, Bs, and E as well as minerals and enzymes. It heals, hydrates, and accelerates skin cell growth. It provides anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.

Sodium Hyaluronate

Sodium Hyaluronate is a form of Hyaluronic Acid. It is a humectant that offers stronger moisture retention properties than regular HA. It is found naturally and ample supply in young skin, but depletes with age.

Sodium Hyaluronate has a lower molecular size than other Hyaluronic Acids. It absorbs deeper into the skin and brings other actives along with it.

Cucumber

Cucumis Sativus Oil

Cucumis Sativus Oil is cucumber oil contains Omega-9 and Omega-6 to treat dry, irritated or sunburned skin. Cucumber oil is soothing and reduces swelling. Cucumber contains skin-friendly vitamin A, C and K, magnesium, potassium, and manganese.

Cetearyl Alcohol

Cetearyl Alcohol is fatty alcohol or good alcohol because it holds water, non-drying.

Glycerin

Glycerin attracts and retains moisture and oxygen in the skin.

The Original Sleek Vitamin C Cream Experience

We like the one-pump dispenser design to keep the product fresh.

  • Scent: Slight orange creamsicle, not overpowering, I can’t smell it once applied.
  • Color: pale butter yellow with light orange swirl
  • Consistency: It is a lightweight texture
  • Dry-down: non-oily, absorbs well. Slight tacky finish until it dries. No chalky residue. Light oil finish, not greasy.
Original Sleek Vitamin C Cream is a buttery yellow hue with a creamy texture

Original Sleek Vitamin C Cream is a buttery yellow hue with a creamy texture

With regular use, my skin is well-hydrated and not dry, flaking or irritated as can happen with some Vitamin C creams or serums. There is no weird white residue left on my skin. There is no itchy tight feeling.

Vitamin C serum is a holy grail product when it comes to tackling whatever skincare problem ails you. It treats sun damage, acne, acne scars, discoloration, age spots, fine lines, skin texture, and enlarged pores all while promoting collagen production. But even Vitamin C needs a little help from its’ friends.

In the case of Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum, those friends come in the form of some skin-friendly actives that are packed with skin-nourishing vitamins, hydration, lipids, fatty acids and other goodies that keep skin acting younger and looking vibrant.

Every active in this formulation has a corresponding buddy ingredient. Each active has an improved mechanism because of their buddy.

A solid formulation where all the ingredients support each other

When Actives Are BFFs

Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum has active ingredients that work together. Some examples:

Konjac + Hyaluronic Acid

The Hyaluronic Acid and Konjac Acid combination do something special.

Both Hyaluronic Acid and Konjac have high hygroscopic properties. They pull moisture from the air. The low molecular weight hyaluronic acid plus the glucomannan in konjac maximize their combined water absorption capacity. Once they absorb into the skin, they link. They attract water and swell in the skin. I mean, really, really swell with water. All the can get. So much water. It gives the skin a nice plump look while simultaneously treating.

The Three Amigos

Ferulic, C, and E are all anti-aging antioxidants. Awesome individually, but together they are special. According to the Journal of Investigative Dermatology:

“Ferulic acid alone (and vitamins C and E) provide partial protection but vitamins C, E and ferulic acid [altogether] provide virtually complete protection.” [1]

The Vitamin C is part of a Serum Duo with the Mad Hippie Exfoliating Serum but also available as a stand-alone product.  The Mad Hippie Serum Duo has an astounding number of actives between them, yet don’t irritate the skin.

Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum and Exfoliating Serum Duo

Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum and Exfoliating Serum Duo

Let’s examine these active ingredients in detail.

✽

Active Ingredient Profile

Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate)

A water-soluble C particularly effective on acne treatment and prevention. Sodium ascorbyl phosphate (SAP) is a stable precursor of vitamin C that ensures a constant delivery of vitamin C into the skin. [2] In layperson terms, it won’t turn brown or go bad. SAP has a strong antimicrobial effect.

Konjac Root

This unusual looking specimen seen below is Konjac Root. It contains glucomannan, a moisturizer similar to the natural hyaluronic found in young skin. It makes skin look and act younger.  It penetrates the upper layer of the epidermis and hydrates the surface.

Konjac root also contains a slew of skin-friendly vitamins such as A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, D, and E, plus lipids and fatty acids. It smooths fine wrinkles and promotes collagen and elastin production.

Konjac also contains copper, a skincare superstar that builds collagen and the elusive but skin-vital elastin. Elastin is crucial because it reduces sagging and wrinkles and gives skin a springy and healthy look. Copper is rare and pricey skincare, which makes its’ presence in this formula all the more awesome. Copper also plays very well with the other actives in this formula. [3]

Konjac Root

ferulic acid

Ferulic acid (4-hydroxy-3-methoxycinnamic acid) is naturally found in plant cell walls. Ferulic acid makes Vitamin C more stable, and is also an anti-oxidant. Ferulic acid is particularly good at protecting against aging caused by free radicals and environmental stress factors.

Hyaluronic acid

In addition to the humectant and plumping properties described above, Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a microcarrier. Like a friend with VIP access, it helps active molecules penetrate deeper into the skin for better results.

HA assists all the actives and is particularly good at the dermal delivery of sodium ascorbyl phosphate (SAP).

Vitamin E

A protective antioxidant that lessens discoloration.  E makes damaged skin soft and pliable again while reducing wrinkle and fine line formation.

Clary Sage

Clary Sage

Clary sage strengthens the skin while balancing excess sebum. It calms and rejuvenates the skin in a manner similar to lavender but without as strong of a scent.

It contains linalyl acetate, an anti-inflammatory that heals skin irritation.[4]

Chamomile Extract

Chamomile flower

Chamomile flower

Chamomile Extract is excellent in a formulation with powerful actives because it contains flavones. These flavones inhibit the production of inflammation, even in deeper skin layers. [5]

Meanwhile, The apigenin in Chamomile protects the skin barrier. [6] This gentle and hypoallergenic extract soothes skin, heals burns, and is great for helping skin recover and benefit from chemical peels.

Chamomile Extract is an antioxidant that also kills the bacteria that causes acne while soothing skin. [7]

The chamomile helps enable the daily use of this serum without irritation or skin peeling.

Chamomile

✽

What We Love About It

This is a particularly impressive C serum. As a stable C, it is good to the last drop: no degrading or turning brown.

The ingredient combo is exceptionally effective and hits all the bases.  Skin appears refined after use without redness or tightness. There is no peeling skin or dryness. It is powerful but there is no need to skip a day due to irritation.

Unlike many C serums, it is not sticky or tacky on dry down. It doesn’t pill or get crusty under my sunscreen and makeup.✽class=”toc_list”

The Vitamin C is part of a Serum Duo with the Mad Hippie Exfoliating Serum but also available as a stand-alone product.  Read about Mad Hippie Exfoliating Serum ingredients and our experience here.

How to Use This Serum

After cleansing, apply just a half a dropper full daily to the face and throat. Follow with a moisturizer so the hyaluronic and Konjac acids can work their moisture-binding, skin-plumping, hygroscopic magic.

Apply twice a day if this is your only serum, or once a day if using the MH Exfoliative Serum or another nighttime favorite.

Apply one-half dropper of the serum to face and throat.

Apply one-half dropper of the serum to face and throat.

✽

RESULTS

The impact of Konjac and C together is so impressive: dark spots fade fairly quickly. Paired with the Mad Hippie Exfoliating Serum at night, this duo makes for an impressive one-two punch against aging and skin issues like discoloration, acne, fine lines, and skin texture. And it does it with zero irritation.

If skin aging, poor texture, acne or sun damage make you want to apply ALL the things, this C Serum and the serum duo contain many excellent actives in the right combination and proportions to get the job done without causing any irritation.

✽

WHERE TO FIND IT

Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum is available at Mad Hippie as part of a serum combo or separately at Mad Hippie and Ulta, and also Whole Foods stores

Apply one half dropper of the serum to face and throat.

The Mad Hippie Serum Duo has an astounding number of actives between them, yet don’t irritate the skin.

The Caveats of Vitamin C for Delicate Eye Skin Care

Crow’s feet, wrinkles, crepey skin and discoloration. Vitamin C can work wonders on the delicate eye area skin for targeted skin-rejuvenation. It is an anti-aging, dark pigmentation fading powerhouse. Vitamin C is a building block for collagen, the support structure of the skin. Vitamin C also minimizes wrinkles and improves sun-damaged skin texture.

But… Vitamin C can also irritate sensitive eye area skin. Many people cannot tolerate daily Vitamin C around the eyes.

Fortunately, Kat Burki Nutrient-C Eye Cream contains a host of soothing, nourishing, treating and buffering ingredients that support Vitamin C efficacy as well as make daily Vitamin C use possible even on the most sensitive eye skin. This formula uses STAY-C, a stable form of Vitamin C, activated only upon absorption. Stable C is more power with less irritation.

Kat Burki Nutrient-C Eye Cream reads like a who’s who list of amazing skin-friendly ingredients. Let’s take a closer look.

Ingredient Profile

In addition to STAY-C Vitamin C, Kat Burki Nutrient-C Eye Cream contains an impressive formulation of natural, skin-enhancing ingredients.

KB5 Complex: The first five herbs are individually cold-processed into essences. They create the proprietary KB5 Complex, a trademarked signature blend that replaces the water in all Kat Burke formulas. There are no unnecessary fillers such as water, silicone, and alcohol in any Kat Burke product. This makes highly concentrated and pure formulations.

ANTI-AGING, DAMAGE REVERSING PEPTIDES: Amongst the synergistic ingredients in Skinniche Ageless Complex Vitamin C Formula are powerful peptides that each increase collagen production in a specific way. These ingredients are effective even on more mature skin with issues like deep wrinkles and sagging.

One of these is Tripeptide-10 Citrulline, a relatively new ingredient in skin care that acts like decorin. Decorin is found in younger skin, it prompts active collagen production. Decorin decreases as we age. Tripeptide-10 Citrulline mimics decorin, which in turn, fools collagen fibers into thinking they should still be producing at the rate they did in their younger prime.

Clinical studies show how helpful these peptides are in reversing the signs of aging.

In the first clinical study, the antiwrinkle activity of Tripeptide-10 Citrulline and other peptides were tested. Results were documented by deep skin image testing (microtopography and visioscan imaging). Marked improvement in wrinkles was seen in 20 days, and significant wrinkle improvement at 40 days! A possible correlation was also made for a reduction in transepidermal water loss. (1)

A second peptide, Tripeptide-1 visibly repair age and sun damage on the skin. Interestingly, it helps “teach” damaged areas how to rebuild so skin looks and feels smoother and firmer. (2)

A third peptide is Pseudoalteromonas Ferment Extract. It regenerates skin by retaining moisture, healing wounds, and increasing collagen and elastin production.

Vitamin C, when paired with supporting ingredients, can treat many skin issues including wrinkles, dark circles, discoloration, sagging and acne

In addition to these peptides, Skinniche Ageless Complex Vitamin C Formula also has supporting ingredients that are proven to get the most out benefit of the Vitamin C. This includes:

  • Thiotain, a powerful antioxidant that recycles the power of Vitamin C, keeping it working longer on the skin.
  • Vitamin E, a skin softening anti-oxidant that works synergistically with Vitamin C in collagen formation.
  • Retinol works hand in hand with Vitamin C to break up discoloration, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and increase dead skin cell turnover, resulting in smoother, younger-looking skin. It also helps with collagen production.
  • Moisturizing agents including Jojoba Oil and Green Tea provide a soothing buffer, reducing inflammation and irritation, as well as keeping skin soft and dewy. Glucare-S is a third anti-inflammatory ingredient that soothes skin and enhances the skin’s natural repair process.

PACKAGING & DESIGN

The airless pump keeps the product fresh, which is important with a Vitamin C serum. It is a one-ounce container that will last more than long enough to start seeing results.

MY EXPERIENCE

One or two pumps worth of Skinniche Ageless Complex Vitamin C Formula covers my face and eye area, and I use three or four pumps for my face and throat and collarbone area. I applied evenly to just-washed skin and allow the serum to dry before applying sunscreen or moisturizer.

Dries down to a dewy, smooth finish with no stickiness or dry film residue

Dries down to a dewy, smooth finish

It dries down without being sticky, tacky or greasy. It does not make my skin feel tight and it does not leave a filmy or white residue. It does not sting and feels mildly cooling during application and until dry-down.

Moisturizer, sunscreen, and makeup can be applied over the serum without experiencing gumminess or pilling.

Apply one or two pumps to clean skin

I really like the dewy skin look I get with this formula even from the first few uses. And my skin feels so soft!

creamy texture absorbs quickly into my skin and does not feel sticky

RESULTS

Despite the number of powerful active ingredients, the formula was very gentle on my sensitive skin, so I could tolerate daily use.

I’ve been using Skinniche Ageless Complex Vitamin C Formula daily for three weeks now, and I started to see results in skin hydration quickly, so my skin looked dewy, and my skin felt soft and smooth. Fine lines looked less severe and some discoloration is beginning to break up and fade. I am pleased with the results so far considering it has only been a few weeks.

FOR MATURE SKIN

Skinniche Ageless Complex Vitamin C Formula is ideal for skin over 40 that has experienced a decrease in collagen. Signs of a loss of collagen include enlarged pores, deep wrinkles, and sagging. These occur in the deeper level of the skin and take about 2-3 months to begin to see visible improvement. This is because it takes some time for the increased production of collagen to be produced and properly “refill” these collagen fiber gaps. Once they do, it results in a meaningful effect on the “architecture” of the skin.

In the meantime, dullness and fine lines improve quickly, as does the level of skin moisture, which overall, gives skin a much healthier, vibrant, youthful glow.

Use the serum at least once a day, but twice a day, in the morning and evening, will produce even faster results.
