Vegamour GRO Hair Foam

August 31, 2023 · Leave a Comment

Many of us would like to grow fuller, lush hair. There are several serums and oils on the market. These are often a messy application that makes hair go flat and greasy at the root – right where you want more volume. Here is our research on the Vegamour GRO Hair Foam formulation as well as our experience.

Read all about how Vegamour GRO Hair Foam works. It looks like hair mousse but you only need to apply small amount

What It Is

A mousse-like foam that adds volume at the root. It is not intended for the lengths of the hair. While it does double-duty as a styling agent to maximize the appearance of thinner hair, it is really a hair growth serum in a precise application form.

Why It is Special

While most hair growth formulations are oily, greasy or clump the hair together, this formula acts like a styling mousse at the root and adds some hair volume.

Adhering to daily use is much easier when I am not tempted to skip a day of treatment in order to have a better looking hair style for a day.

Research-Backed Treatments for Hair Regrowth

There are many formulations out there promising hair growth. While many ingredients can provide SOME benefit, most don’t address the main reasons hair won’t grow in well.

Research indicates the primary enemies to hair growth are:

  • DHT accumulation on the scalp
  • loss of blood circulation to the scalp
  • scalp inflammation
  • nutritional deficiencies

Bloodwork can rule out some nutritional basics like low Vitamin D levels, iron, magnesium, and B12. Most of us get enough Biotin from fortified foods but if you are low, that can impair hair growth.

A dermatologist can rule out other conditions, such as inflammatory conditions of the scalp, that may require medical attention.

But DHT and poor blood circulation are more complicated. That requires some topical treatment intervention. The ingredients in that topical treatment are key to your success.

Check out the ingredients in Vegamour GRO Hair Foam.

Vegamour Gro Hair Foam Key Ingredients

tumeric

Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Callus Conditioned Media

Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) is used for the prevention and reduction of hair loss, achieving an increase in density.

It is also an important stimulator of follicular activity, optimizing the hair cycle and providing improvements in the density, strength and health of the hair.

It is also an outstanding anti-inflammatory for promoting optimal scalp health.

Tumeric is effective at “jumpstarting” the dermal papilla cells of DPCs – where hair growth happens – after periods of dormancy.

Trifolium Pratense

Trifolium Pratense is red clover. Red clover addresses DHT.

DHT is a hormone that accumulates on the scalp. It can suffocate the hair follicle, causing it to grow a thinner and shorter until it cannot produce a hair at all.

DHT is partially removed with regular hair washing, but not entirely. It can be trapped under dandruff or oils. Certain ingredients show an ability to remove DHT. Red Clover is an particularly effective one while also not being harsh or drying to the scalp.

Bergamot

Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Peel Oil

Citrus Aurantium Bergamia, better known as Bergamot has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Linalool and carvacrol are compounds in bergamot oil. Both are excellent anti-inflammatories for skin issues such as acne and skin irritation.[1,2]It also lends natural scent.

Caffeine

Caffeine stimulates blood circulation and reduces puffiness
Caffeine stimulates blood circulation

Caffeine reduces inflammation.

Caffeine has antioxidant properties and slows down photo-aging. On the scalp, Caffeine encourages blood flow to nourish follicles and encourage healthy growth.

Vigna Radiata Extract

Mung beans.

As it turns out, the humble mung bean is a hair growth superstar.

Mung beans deliver folate directly to the DPCs Dermal Papilla cells (DPCs).

DPCs are specialized mesenchymal cells [3] located at the hair follicle base. They are essential to the hair growth cycle, especially for postnatal hair growth. [4]

Nicotiana benthamiana Hexapeptide-40 Sh-Polypeptide 9

This is a fusion peptide. It is designed to be an identical copy of the human gene responsible for vascular endothelial growth factor, part of what grows hair. It contains amino acids, disulfide bonds and proteins all of which build hair. There are no animal bi-products in this peptide, and it functions like your own human genes, but younger and healthier.

Simply put, this peptide nourishes the anagen (growth) cycle of the hair while strengthening roots.

Lemon

Hexapeptide-40 Sh-Polypeptide 86

A peptide.

Glucopeptide-2

Glucopeptide-2 is a peptide which uses an amino acid that acts like adiponectin. Adiponectin reduces the impact of genetic hair loss factors.

Limonene

Limonene comes from citrus peels. It adds natural fragrance and is believed to have some of the beneficial properties of the fruit such as Vitamins and anti-inflammatories. [5]

Biotin

Biotin is Vitamin H. Biotin aids in hydration, moisturizes, and restores dry skin. Biotin also supports the building of the keratin structure of hair.

Gluconolactone

A gentle polyhydroxy acid (PHA) exfoliant. PHA’s are like aHa’s but less irritating to the skin, so even sensitive skin types can use it. It not only exfoliates barriers such as dandruff and sebum, but is anti-aging to the scalp skin itself. [6] which is a natural pickling agent. It is a “natural” ingredient, a cyclic ester of D-gluconic acid. [7,8]

THE EXPERIENCE

The scent is a fruity bergamot with a touch of citrus, but not so detectible once it dries down.

It is the texture of a hair mousse applied just on the scalp at the hair root – not the lengths. There is no weird residue. It wasn’t drying and washes out well. Only a small amount is necessary. This is particularly helpful for precise spot application if hair is thinner in a spot or to treat an uneven hairline.

  • PRO: Foam is less messy and offers a very precise application compared to a serum application.
  • PRO: Hair looks and feels thicker. There is less overall hair shed.
  • PRO: I did not experience white flakes or residue. It is somewhat stiff at the root – like a volumizing styling product – but not sticky.
  • PRO: Makes hair edges and the hair line appear thicker. This is a very nice perk compared to most hair growth serums and oils that tend to clump hair together or make hair seem greasy right where you want the appearance of thicker hair.
  • CON: If I could fix one thing, the nozzle would just a bit thinner to not disperse more product than I need at once.
  • TIP: Remember to shake the bottle well, like a hair mousse, for best texture on application.

If you are not a fan or serums or oils to promote hair growth, then this foam application is a great option for you. I find it useful for days I really prefer to style the fullest looking hair line yet still use a hair growth treatment, and use the hair serum on a “regular” day.

10 Tips How to Best Use Philip Kingsley Elasticizer

September 22, 2022 ·

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer is considered by many to be a holy grail hair rescue product. But for some, Elasticizer is just meh. How can some people swear by it and others be disappointed?

Proper application is key to getting the most out of Elasticizer or Elasticizer Extreme. Not sure how to use Philip Kingsley Elasticizer? Read our top ten tips for best use below.

How to Use Philip Kingsley Elasticizer

How to Use Philip Kingsley Elasticizer: 10 Tips for Best Use

Why Elasticizer is Special

A key ingredient overview helps deconstruct the elusive je ne sais quoi of Elasticizer. Let’s take a look:

Key Ingredients

Olive Oil nourishes hair

OLIVE OIL

Olive Oil moisturizes with Omega-3s and polyphenols. Omegas nourish the hair follicle and make the cuticle smooth and the shaft strong. Olive Oil makes hair smooth and shiny.

Kingsley found Olive Oil works best not as a direct oil application, but within a creamy formula base.  It aids in the penetration of the precious vitamins and fatty acids. A creamy formula also makes it easier to wash out without oily residue after use.

HYDROLYZED ELASTIN

Elastin gives hair tensile strength: the ability to stretch. Hydrolyzed Elastin adds body and elasticity to hair. It improves hair’s resistance to breakage and aids moisture retention.

Unlike protein treatments, you cannot over-do elastin. Elastin returns a youthful look to the hair. Elastin is often a missing element in hair maintenance routines, but it is important to keep hair looking vibrant, lush, bouncy and healthy.

No matter what your hair has experienced (coloring, chemicals, hot tools), it likely has lost some Elastin along the way.

Castor seed oil is a humectant

CASTOR OIL

Castor Oil is a humectant. It draws moisture into the hair shaft making it plumper and hydrated. It softens hair with high Vitamin E content. Castor Oil thickens thinning hair and calms the appearance of frizzy hair.

Castor Oil is typically too thick and sticky to apply directly to the hair, but in this formulation, it washes out easily.

GLYCERIN

Glycerin helps hair to retain moisture. This is particularly important for thirsty coarse and curly hair.

Ten Tips on How to Best Use Philip Kingsley Elasticizer

1. Apply Elasticizer to Fully Damp Hair

Apply Elasticizer to fully damp hair prior to shampooing. Warm the elasticizer slightly in your hands. Smooth the Elasticizer into the length of the hair to help it absorb.

2.  Elasticizer Must Fully Absorb

Absorption is the key. It won’t accomplish nearly as much just sitting on the hair surface.

How to do it: I apply Elasticizer to a small section of hair at a time. Then place the hair section between two fingers and gently “squeegee” the product down the hair length to assist absorption.

For sections that don’t absorb after 30 minutes, I re-wet the hair with a spray bottle and repeat the squeegee process.

3. Avoid the Scalp

There is no harm in applying Elasticizer closer to the scalp, but it is most beneficial applied to lengths down to the ends. I focus extra on areas I heat style with my curling wand – bangs, money pieces, and ends.

Some suggest applying from the ear down to the ends.

4. Keep Elasticizer moist

As long as it stays damp, it continues to work. I like to use a processing cap or hair towel to let it stay moist. Your facial steamer can add a special oomph to Elasticizer. If Elasticizer is getting dry and hard, spritz it down.

5. 10-Minute Minimum Use

It takes about five minutes to absorb into the hair.  Leave Elasticizer in for a minimum of ten minutes, or even overnight in a covered cap or towel. In the Kingsley Clinics in New York and London, they leave Elasticizer in for 30 minutes.

Don’t have time for a full treatment? Try this tip:

“I like to treat any split or brittle hair with perhaps a teaspoonful, gently worked into my hair and then left overnight. Very economical and a quick and easy boost when I don’t have time for the full works.”

– JENNIFER DYE
PHILIP KINGSLEY HEAD TRICHOTHERAPIST

6.  Add heat

Heat intensifies the penetration. Wear Elasticizer while exercising, at the beach or sunbathing, or while taking a steam.

7. Don’t Use Elasticizer before or after Hair Coloring

The packaging says Elasticizer can remove hair color or impede coloring. Don’t use Elasticizer for 3 days before and after coloring. I ignored these directions and found out it is true. The Olive Oil can remove fresh color.

8. Use the Formulation for Your Hair Type

Use the proper Elasticizer formulation for your hair type.

  • PK Elasticizer Extreme is for coarse, naturally coiled, or very damaged hair.
  • Fine and Medium texture hair should use Elasticizer Intensive.

9.  Add-Ins

Elasticizer is an excellent creamy base for your favorite hair oil. Sometimes I add a few drops of warm Jojoba or Avocado oil

10. Stick With It

We find the benefits are cumulative. Courtney initially didn’t see much difference, but after second use, she was wowed by the results. Lyn’s coarse and colored hair responded well to Elasticizer Intense, but benefits far more from Philip Kingsley’s Elasticizer Extreme.

TIP: gently squeegee Elasticizer into the hair to aid absorption.

Why It Is Special

It is super easy to use this cruelty-free formula and it leaves hair in better condition with several nourishing ingredients.

It leaves no colorful residue on the sink or shower tile.

There is no developer to mix, yet it deposits bright color, with the brightest results seen on pre-lightened hair.

To that end, Strawberry Leopard makes an excellent lightening kit with everything you need to get a good clean base for your bright colors to look their best.

We will cover the Strawberry Leopard Light Me Up Lightening Kit in a future post.

How to Use It

Choose your shade or shades.  Mix any shade with the Strawberry Leopard Pastel Mixer for more subtle results. Unlike traditional dyes, it smells like a fruity treat. It reminds me of strawberry candy!

Shake the bottle well. Then apply in a tint bowl and tint brush method to your clean, dry hair in quadrants. It is best applied in one-inch sections. No developer to mix, and no nasty smell! Leave on for 20 minutes.

You can use foil to do just a section of hair.

You can mix colors together to make a custom shade, or apply several colors.

Just rinse with cool water, no shampoo or conditioner afterward. The color lasts up to 8 weeks.

TIP: The Strawberry Leopard website says that a small amount of Strawberry Leopard Semi-Permanent Hair Color can be mixed with your daily conditioner to keep color vibrant between touchups.

Strawberry Leopard Shades

Strawberry Leopard comes in 17 shades and a Pastel Mixer. The Pastel Mixer lets you turn any shade into its’ pretty pastel counterpart.

Here are a few shades we got to try:

Loyal Blue

Strawberry Leopard Loyal Blue is a true blue shade, a crisp and highly pigmented crystal clear hue.

Loyal Blue

Strawberry Leopard Loyal Blue is a rich, creamy true blue hue.

Strawberry Leopard Bali is a pretty strawberry pink with a hint of bright coral. The result is a soft rose gold pink. Here is a close up:

Gray Hair:  While it will leave some tint on gray hair, as always, gray is generally tricky. But this is a conditioning formula, so you have nothing to lose by experimenting! The darker shades leave more pigment on gray hair than the pastels.

Another thing that is special about Strawberry Leopard is how well it treats hair after it has been bleached. Bleached hair is often porous, dry, and damaged.

Take a look at some of the ingredients in this conditioning vegan formulation:

The Ingredients

Mango Seed Extract restores dry, damaged hair

Mango Seed Extract

Mango Seed provides a long-lasting emollient. Rich in fatty acids, it keeps hair hydrated and nourished.

Mango Seed Butter also contains Vitamins C, A, E, K, and B6.

Mango Seed Extract is high in copper, which supports healthy hair follicles.

Shea Butter

Shea Butter

Shea Butter is protective and nourishing.

Panthenol

Panthenol (B5)  is a humectant, emollient, and moisturizer.

Panthenol penetrates the hair shaft and locks in moisture. This makes hair look healthier by boosting shine and plumping the hair shaft. More volume gives even damaged or thinning hair a healthier appearance. [1]

For very porous hair, Panthenol behaves like a protein.

Rice Bran

Rice Protein

Hydrolyzed Rice Protein

Hydrolyzed Rice protein is a secret hair weapon because it contains Inositol.

Inositol repairs hair breakage and damage. It penetrates deeply into the hair and helps repair the broken hair bonds.

Hydrolyzed Rice protein also contains Antioxidants, Vitamin B6, Vitamin E, and amino acids.[2]

Lavender Oil softens hair and skin

Lavender

Lavender Flower

Lavender’s anti-microbial and anti-bacterial properties keep the scalp healthy. It has soothing properties to calm any scalp imbalances such as inflammation or dry skin flaking.

The linalyl acetate in lavender enhances hair cell growth.

Tocopheryl Acetate

Vitamin E promotes scalp health.

This formula has a hydrating Sunflower Oil base combined with soothing, skin rejuvenating natural ingredients

This formula has hydrating Sunflower Seed

Sunflower Seed Extract

Sunflower Seed Oil retains moisture in brittle hair, thereby reducing hair breakage.

Ideal for coarse, colored, bleached, curly, or damaged hair because it penetrates the hair shaft to lock and retain moisture.

It contains Omega 9, an essential acid needed to stop breakage and stimulate hair growth.

The main component of sunflower oil is linoleic acid. Its other components include oleic acid and palmitic acid, lecithin, carotenoids, tocopherols, and numerous vitamins.

Flax

Flaxseed

Linseed Seed Extract

Linseed, AKA flaxseed, is high in fatty acid Omega-3s.

It is considered a hair “superfood” as it creates lush hair and reduces breakage.

Maximilian Passion Fruit Black Seed Oil Curly Hair Shampoo Conditioner Set

December 23, 2020 · 2 Comments

It is a good time for hair rehab. Curly hair is naturally dry and requires extra moisture. An excellent shampoo and conditioning duo to restore moisture into dry, damaged hair is Maximilian Passion Fruit Black Seed Oil Curly Hair Shampoo and Conditioner Set. It contains only gentle, moisturizing ingredients including Passionfruit Extract, Sweet Almond Oil, Panthenol, and Black Seed Oil.

Maximilian Passion Fruit Black Seed Oil Curly Hair Shampoo and Conditioner Set

Maximilian Passion Fruit Black Seed Oil Curly Hair Shampoo and Conditioner Set

Why curly hair Needs Moisture

Curly hair requires extra moisture

Curly hair is naturally drier. It has a wider diameter which leads to more surface moisture loss. Our natural scalp oils have difficulty making their way down the spiral shape of a curl.

The shape of a curl also makes it extra brittle.

When curly hair is colored or styled straight with hot tools, it can easily damage already dry hair.

Many shampoos and even conditioners contain ingredients that dry out and damage curly hair. These include parabens, sulphates, silicones, and alcohols.

If you have curly hair, it is a great time to transition away from drying shampoos and conditioners in order to achieve lush, healthy, soft, and shiny curls.

A great haircare set for curly hair is Maximilian Passion Fruit Black Seed Oil Curly Hair Shampoo and Conditioner Set.

What Makes Maximilian Special

Maximilian ingredients are considered safe for curly hair

Both the shampoo and conditioner use natural, safe, curly friendly ingredients to infuse and lock in moisture.

Also important is what these products do NOT contain:

  • No Sulfate, Parabens, PEG, coloring, or gluten
  • No Silicone
  • No animal testing, cruelty-free

While these features are vital for curly hair, they are also beneficial to any texture hair that is dry, colored or damaged. Sulfates can be drying to even oily hair types. But this set uses three gentle cleansers considered safe for curly hair.

This volumizing formula makes hair healthier, it smooths the hair while imparting softness and shine. The ingredients work together to add moisture and then lock in that moisture.

Let’s take a closer look at these outstandingly curl-friendly ingredients.

Maximilian Supporting Ingredients

This shampoo and conditioner set uses exotic ingredients such as Passionfruit

Passion Fruit Extract

Passion fruit Extract contains hair restoring nutrients

Passion fruit Extract contains hair restoring nutrients

Passion fruit seed oil, also known as Maracuja Oil, is a Brazilian beauty mainstay. It improves how the hair looks and feels. It also benefits the health of the scalp. Healthy scalps are vital to growing healthy hair.

Passion fruit extract contains 72% linoleic acid, one of the richest sources of this hair-friendly essential acid. [1]  This gives hair a glossy, healthy shine.

It is rich in vitamin A, potassium, antioxidants, and minerals that benefit both hair and scalp. Vitamin C, riboflavin, carotene improves moisture retention. These antioxidants counteract the oxidative stress signs of hair aging [2]

Vitamin E improves dry hair and a dry scalp. It infuses moisture and retains it. This helps alleviate dandruff and restore dry, damaged hair.  Vitamins B6 and B2 aid scalp circulation. This benefits follicles and helps build stronger hair. Passion fruit extract also has anti-inflammatory benefits.

The vitamins in Passion fruit extract are amazing at locking in moisture without leaving the hair greasy or limp.

Sweet Almond Oil restores brittle hair

Sweet Almond Oil restores brittle hair

Sweet Almond Oil

Sweet Almond Oil is hair reparative and softening.  Sweet Almond Oil is excellent for brittle hair, damaged hair, dry and over-processed hair.

Sweet almond oil contains proteins and vitamins A, B, D, and E, Omega-3 fatty acids, phospholipids, and magnesium. Amino acids and proteins strengthen the hair strand and smooth the appearance of the hair cuticle.  It nourishes and strengthens damaged hair, making it silky and shiny again. It also reduces hair loss and makes hair more elastic.

Sweet Almond Oil protects delicate hair strands and combats brittleness. Brittleness results in breakage and is a huge barrier to meaningful hair growth.

Almond Oil is also a carrier oil, meaning it helps other oils and ingredients penetrate and absorb.

Sweet Almond Oil also gives hair a natural sheen.

Black Seed Oil

Black Seed Oil comes from the seeds of the flower Nigella sativa

Black Seed Oil comes from the seeds of the flower Nigella sativa

Black Seed Oil is also known as Cumin Seed Oil. It comes from the seeds of the Nigella sativa, commonly called virgin in the green flower.

Rich in fatty amino acids, Black Seed Oil is moisturizing to both the hair and the scalp.

For scalp care, Black Seed Oil contains Thymoquinone. This is an excellent antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant. It hydrates the scalp to keep it in optimal condition for growing healthy hair.  It combats scalp conditions such as dandruff, psoriasis, and other skin conditions  [3]

Black Seed Oil is called a hair growth remedy.  Studies of Telogen effluvium hair loss show topical Black Seed Oil reduces temporary hair loss. [4]

Black Cumin Oil works well with other ingredients to provide therapeutic effects.

Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5)

Panthenol is a humectant, emollient, and moisturizer. Panthenol is the alcohol analog of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) and is a provitamin of B5. It has ultra-hydrating properties. But unlike oils, it won’t make hair oily or greasy.

Panthenol penetrates the hair shaft and locks in moisture. It also retains moisture along the hair surface which reflects light for a shiny appearance. It also makes hair look and feels soft and pliable without oils or waxes. The sealed-in moisture plumps the hair shaft which gives the hair a more voluminous appearance.  It makes hair look healthier by boosting shine and plumping the hair shaft. More volume gives even damaged or thinning hair a healthier appearance. [5]

It is excellent for brittle hair and curly hair. It washes clean from the hair without residue. For very porous hair, it can behave like a protein.

Panthenol also moisturizes the skin on the scalp and is believed to promote cell regeneration.

RESULT

Without any other styling products and drying my hair naturally, my hair looked great!  I love how thick and strong this set makes my hair feel! And it has shine and movement!
