What are The Benefits of a Heatless Curling Set for Overnight Curls?

I loved the bouncy voluminous waves from a curling wand. But here are some benefits to a heatless curler:

Heatless Curling Set PROS

  • SAVE TIME: It took atleast an 20 extra minutes to curl my hair each morning.
  • No heat damagedaily hot tool use can make hair dry and brittle.
  • Hair Health: curling wand depletes natural moisture in the hair and damages the keratin bonds.
  • If you have damaged hair and need to take a break from hot tools, curls and waves hide hair damage better than wearing straight hair.
  • Many heatless curler options caused frizzy sections in my hair.

I tried a few heatless curler options but most left a weird crimp in my hair or the curl didn’t hold.

A Heatless Hair Curler set can be used on wet or dry hair lightly misted with water. It works on long, curly, straight, fine, or thick hair.

What to Know About Choosing a Heatless Curling Set Base

A heatless curling set has a long padded rod to create the curls. It is placed on your head like a curling rod headband.

  • The total length of the curler base is about 35 inches. This can accommodate even VERY long hair.
  • A a one-inch diameter is the most versatile curl style.
  • The curler base should be made of soft, eco-friendly foamed rubber so it is comfortable to sleep on and lightweight.
  • This is the most important: it should be silk not satin. Ideally, mulberry silk.
The base tips are well stitched with a pearl sealed finish

The base is flexible and folds neatly for storage
Flexible Base stores easily when not in use

Why Mulberry Silk is Best for Your Heatless Curling Set

  • It is lightweight and hypoallergenic.
  • Mulberry silk is 100% natural and contains no artificial fibers.
  • It is smooth without friction or abrasive surfaces, so it is the most gentle to the hair. It will not catch, rub, or damage the hair shaft.
  • It will not wick moisture out of the hair like cotton
  • A mulberry silk fiber is stronger than a piece of steel of the same length and diameter.
  • Mulberry silk provides the longest silk strands, which allows for higher-quality weaving and fewer”bumps” to catch a hair strand
  • It holds moisture very well. It can hold 1/3 of its weight in water without feeling damp. It also will not mildew or require airing out.

How to Use A Heatless Curling Set

  1. Start with towel-dried hair or lightly spritz dry hair damp
  2. Secure the base to the head with the included clip
  3. Wrap sections of hair around the base.
    • I start with pieces about the same size hair piece as I take when using a curling wand.
    • Larger pieces create a softer curl, smaller pieces a tighter curl.
    • Tight wrapping creates a ringlet. Loose wrapping creates a beachy wave.
    • TIP: One technique I found useful is to hold my hair section taut, lay it flat on the base towards the front, and twist it before wrapping it around the back of the curler. This creates more of a curling wand-type curls
  4. Once you wrap all your hair on one side, secure the ends with the scrunchie.
  5. Repeat on the other side
  6. Once both sides are secured, the base is flexible and can bend out of the way while you sleep or wear it while getting ready.

Heatless Hair Curler Results

Lovely soft curls without burning my fingers or damaging my hair with a curling wand. And it doesn’t leave a weird “crimp” mark in my hair like other heatless curlers. I love saving the extra 20 minutes in the morning NOT having to curl my hair!
