An Update On Our NEWA Experience

October 4, 2020 · 2 Comments

We recently interviewed EndyMed, the makers of NEWA. NEWA is an at-home RF device designed to reduce facial sagging. The 3DEEP radiofrequency energy that powers the NEWA is the same medical technology used by clinics and dermatologists. And the Style Chicks are testing NEWA out. Here are our first impressions of NEWA.

NEWA tightens skin and produces collagen

Does Using NEWA Hurt?

No. NEWA is not painful: it doesn’t zap, sting or burn.

There is a mild warmth, like getting an ultrasound. We use it on the higher power setting, 2, but there is a lower power setting if needed. Even around the orbital bone, there is no discomfort.

Set the device to power level two for use, but reduce it to level one if you experience any discomfort

USING THE NEWA ACTIVATOR GEL

The NEWA device comes with a tube of activator gel.

There is a conduction gel. It is important to use enough gel to be able to smoothly glide the treatment head in circles on the skin without tugging the skin. The amount shown in the instructional video looks like a bit much, but about what I found I needed.

I am doing all the possible treatment areas, so I use more gel than someone treating one area. The gel is reapplied to the treatment head before each section session. At this rate, the gel tube in the kit will last about a month.

Replacement tubes of activator gel tubes are available from NEWA and other beauty vendors like Sephora and Neiman Marcus.

The Experience

Doing all the treatment areas takes me about half an hour to 40 minutes. It is four minutes per treatment area.

I have slight redness after a treatment, but it is completely gone in about 15 minutes. There is no skin irritation. I can apply my makeup or serums immediately after.

I can see a lift immediately after use, especially on the brow bone area after a forehead treatment. And around my mouth.

I find it is worthwhile to take a few minutes to do NEWA as a spot treatment immediately before makeup. It lifts the area and gives my eyes an alert, perky look and it smooths the lines from my nose to mouth.

Stay tuned for updates and a full report after our initial treatment is completed. Next up, we review the research to understand why NEWA works.

Stay Tuned For Updates on Our Results

The Style Chicks are currently using NEWA to treat:

  • Orbital area
  • Upper cheeks
  • Jawline, turkey waddle, and upper throat
  • Lower cheek area and sagging around the mouth
  • Forehead

For the first month, we do 4-5 treatments per week in each area. We found the tips that EndyMed offered in our interview to be very helpful.

When an at-home use device promises skin-tightening, we’re intrigued. When the device is from ENDYMED, makers of professional skin-tightening equipment for medical offices, you have our full attention.  Got NEWA questions? Us too. And NEWA answered them for us. Read our interview with NEWA, the device for at-home skin-tightening.

The Need For NEWA

Skin-tightening from home is an appealing prospect. It is easy, discrete, and works on your schedule.  Several devices claim to provide skin tightening.

But not all technologies are created equal and therefore don’t deliver consistent results.

NEWA was developed by ENDYMED – a global leader in medical aesthetics, and the 3DEEP radiofrequency energy that powers the NEWA is the same professional medical technology used by dermatologists and clinics worldwide.

NEWA technology has been clinically proven by over 40 independent clinical studies that set it apart from other devices.

But before you buy any anti-aging device, how do you know it will work?

Your Newa Questions Answered

Joseph Lepselter, their VP of Clinical Affairs graciously answered Style Chicks’ questions about NEWA:

How does RF (Radio Frequency) technology work?

“NEWA, is powered by our professional medical grade 3DEEP radiofrequency technology which is the same technology that powers our ENDYMED treatment platforms used by Dermatologists worldwide.

Our 3DEEP RF technology delivers controlled energy deep into the skin tissue, reaching the dermis skin layer, stimulating the natural production of new healthier collagen and elastin fibers. Collagen and elastin fibers are essential components of the skin which gives your skin shape, lift and support. The collagen fibers are responsible for skin strength and tone. The elastin fibers allow skin flexibility and elasticity.”

How does the patented 3DEEP technology produce collagen in the skin?

“The 3DEEP technology cause microscopic thermal wound that heats the dermal collagen, which stimulates wound healing, dermal remodeling and new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid formation.”

What kinds of improvements can NEWA users expect?

“NEWA is clinically proven to increase collagen in the skin by an average of 36% which results in a visible reduction in the appearance of lines and wrinkles and an improvement in skin texture and firmness.

The results build gradually because the body is actually being “trained” to produce higher levels of collagen and elastin, which is why our recommended treatment protocol for the first month is 4-5 treatments. After that, you can move down to maintenance treatment 2-3 times a week. The results are long lasting and accumulative which means they get better over time.”

What areas can the NEWA treat?

“Our recommended treatment areas are the upper cheeks (which extends to the crows’ feet area), lower cheeks/jawline, and under the chin (turkey waddle area).

To treat around the eyes, you must treat the skin over bony areas only, be careful not to get too close to the eyes and not to treat over the eyelids.”

The NEWA website shows the before/after results of areas such as the forehead and throat. Are these also treatable areas?

“I don’t believe we have photos of the throat area but rather under the chin/upper neck area. That area has been clinically tested and responds very well to RF skin tightening.

The forehead was not one of the areas that were clinically tested but we do have NEWA users that treat their forehead with great results.”

[Editor’s note: He is correct. The photo we perceived as throat improvement, upon closer inspection, was indeed the lift and tightening of the upper neck/chin/turkey waddle area. This gave an appearance to us of improved draping of the entire neck and throat area skin.]

What age group benefits the most from using NEWA?

“We tend to see more dramatic results with the 35-65 year-old age group.”

How does NEWA compare with in-office procedures such as Thermage, Ultralift, or Thermatite?  How does it compare to invasive procedures?

“The technology behind NEWA is widely considered safer and more effective than any other RF technology available today, whether that be a home use device or an in-office treatment like Thermage.

This is because our RF technology is multi-source, phase controlled RF which means that it’s more efficient at focusing the RF energy to the exact target area which provides better results than bi-polar or mono-polar RF technologies.

Compared to invasive procedures, the upside to NEWA is that it’s safer (non-invasive), there’s no downtime or bruising, and the results are more natural looking. The downside is that the results are also more subtle compared to a surgical facelift.

Another point to consider when comparing to any in-office procedure, whether it be surgical or non-invasive is the difference in price. These procedures cost thousands of dollars while NEWA is a fraction of the cost.”

Any special tips or tricks for NEWA users?

“Yes. Stick to our treatment protocol.

Our treatment protocol is the result of numerous clinical studies that all indicated that the first month of treatment with NEWA is the key to optimal skin tightening results.

For the first month you’ll want to do between 4-5 treatments per week. Make sure that your NEWA is blinking green halfway through your treatment because that’s the indication that the heat level is effective.

After the first month, you can move down to maintenance treatments 2-3 times a week.  But trust on this – the first month protocol is something you want to follow through on.”

How does the NEWA activator gel enhance the treatment?

“Working in tandem with your NEWA device, it conducts the RF energy into the dermis while keeping the surface of the skin cool to avoid discomfort or overheating.”

Use the Lift Activator gel with the Newa device

NEWA comes with the NEWA Lift Activator Gel:  Use the Lift Activator gel with the Newa device

Which is better: moving the head in bigger or smaller diameter circles? Faster or slower rotation?

“Smaller diameter circles with slower rotation; however, as the area of concern is smaller, the movement should be faster. The key is to make sure you’re reaching optimal heating levels. Keep and eye on the blinking LED light on the top of the device. When it turns green, that means you’ve hit your goal.”

The LED indicator light will turn green during use.

The LED indicator light will turn green during use.

Is there anything else NEWA users should know?

“We always recommend taking a photo of yourself before you start using NEWA and then another after 1 month. That way you can compare your before and after and keep motivated to maintain your results. It’s easy to overlook gradual changes for the better but photos don’t lie.”

Thanks to Endymed and Joseph for taking the time to share this very helpful NEWA intel with us!
