Are you a fan of joy? Then I have a haircare line for you – Neil George Salon products. It is simply impossible under the laws of the universe in which we live to not be happy when you use these products.

Neil George Refresh Dry ShampooOK, let me back up. I’ve only tested three of their products so far, but I think the above statement holds up. I have a pantheon of fabulous hair products in my closet, and Neil George products still excite me this much.

Let’s start with Neil George Refresh Dry Shampoo Triple Botanical Complex. It’s really a fantastic dry shampoo. A lot of dry shampoos do a decent enough job refreshing your hair and scalp, but until now I haven’t found one that really makes my scalp feel like I washed my hair. Neil George Dry Shampoo leaves the scalp feeling like you just stepped out of the shower.

What really impresses me, though, is the styling power of this dry shampoo. As you know I’m always on the hunt for a great volumizer, and Refresh Dry Shampoo both freshens hair and volumizes it like crazy, in no time flat. I’m particularly impressed with how easy it is to create bombshell hair out of summer frizz with this dry shampoo – divide hair into a few sections, flip head over, spray at the root, wait 30 seconds, massage the scalp, flip hair over, put a little extra in the front sections and you are good to go. It’s kind of a polished version of bed head. And hair is left soooo shiny after use – definitely no product residue, even on really dark hair.

The scent is subtle, which I like. A lot of dry shampoos have a pretty heady (no pun intended) scent, which isn’t really what I’m looking for if I’m using a dry shampoo. Refresh Dry Shampoo just smells like, well, freshly shampooed hair.

The fantastic Neil George Refresh Dry Shampoo Triple Botanical Complex is available the Neil George Salon website for $18.

I’m kind of a nerd. OK, I’m more than “kind of” a nerd. So when I am sent samples of skincare that has interesting derm research behind it, I’m intrigued.

The DNAEGF Renewal Skincare Line is a fantastic two-punch system to treat the causes of age and UV related skin damage. First, it uses marine and botanical enzymes. Since the DNA starts to lose the ability to repair itself at a pretty young age, these enzymes help skin cells to recognize damaged DNA and eliminate it – just like your skin did in younger days.

Secondarily, the DNAEGF line contains Epidermal Growth Factor grown in Barley plants, which are grown in pumice stones with Icelandic water (sounds very spa-like). This peptide works to give your skin’s natural healing system a little boost. Put together, the two components optimize the way your skin reacts to the effects of sun and time.

The cleanser is a little powerhouse. It is both a masterful cleanser and exceedingly gentle. When I was sick for a week, it was the only cleanser that didn’t sting my raw skin. It is especially good for taking off all makeup cleanly, including eye makeup, without scrubbing. Like Dr. LeWinn by Kinerase HydraBalance Foaming Cleanser, it’s a soft feeling foam – it doesn’t feel like you are overcleansing, it’s just a gentle, soothing foam. Which makes it impressive that it contains a glycolic complex to sweep away dead cells and brighten up your complexion, without irritation.

The DNA Night Renewal Cream is fantastic. The silky formula absorbs well and makes skin soooo soft – you’ll have a hard time keeping your hands off your skin. I love how lightweight it is – many night creams are thick and sticky, but Night Renewal glides on skin and leaves it smooth, soft, and feeling practically product-free. If the line’s SPF is as lightweight of a feel, then I’m sold on that too!

Since it is doesn’t countain fragrance, both products would be great for guys – nothing sticky or heavy to deter him from using it again. It’s also paraban and sulfate free.

I really like using the DNAEGF Renewal line at the gym – the cleanser is amazing both before and after workout. Beforehand, it cleans all makeup off your skin easily, so you aren’t walking out of the locker room with a scrubbed red face. Afterwards, it gently cleanses away your workout. DNA Night Renewal is a nice light base moisturizer to use after a workout – doesn’t trap heat and doesn’t feel sticky even on the most humid days.

Dr. Moy’s DNAEGF Renewal Skincare line is pretty intriguing. Find the whole line at dnaegfrenewal.com.

Mineral-Makeup---Copyright-HLPhoto---FotoliaMakeup can be messy sometimes. Powder makeup is a big offender in this regard, especially Mineral Makeup. There’s something a little weird about a range of products that you are supposed to shake the majority of the product off the brush, right? Of course, that never stops us from shaking off the product onto our vanity tables, other products, makeup mirrors, and clothes, does it?

The good folks at Make-Up-Matte came up with a handy way to deal with the mess. The Make Up Matte is a handy, easily totable cloth mat to pick up all of that errant makeup and keep it from getting on your vanity or clothes. It does an impressive job of keeping your beauty counter clean, and then can be thrown in the wash when it needs it! Plus, the patterns offered are adorable! I was sent a sample in Garden Rose, and I’ve been using it all the time.

In addition to minding mineral makeup, it does a great job guarding fabrics and surfaces when using airbrush makeup, in addition to muffling the sound of the air compressor a bit. But my absolute favorite use for it is at the gym. My gym has the cleanest women’s locker room you have or every will see. But still – it’s a locker room, and I don’t want my makeup touching any surfaces or falling on the ground. The Make Up Matte does a great job of keeping my makeup safe from germs/bacteria/etc on surfaces, then I just wash it when I get home!

The e.l.f. Studio Endless Eyes Pro Eyeshadow Palette that boasts 100 shades isn’t a new product, but I’ve come to appreciate it more and more lately. Like most women, I sort of gave up on eyeshadow palettes that have a large number of shades – I end up using the same few, and most go to waste. But when I saw the e.l.f. palette on sale, I thought I’d give it a try for the price (it was $4.98 on sale at Target, it is $10 marked down from $20 at the eyeslipsface website), and I’ve really come to be impressed with it.

The formula is quite sheer and layerable – I haven’t had any creasing issues. The shade range is decent without being too heavy on highly unwearable colors (the one brick red shade has enough chestnut in it to still be flattering – worth trying on olive skin tones especially). I would have liked a true white and true black in the palette, but on the whole it’s a minor issue. There is a mix of matte and shimmering shades, and the subtle shimmer stays put even when not wearing primer.

I enjoy testing out various shades just for feasibility. First night I had it, I decided to try an electric blue shade that I’d never attempt otherwise. To my surprise, it worked on me – if the phrase “bright smokey eye” makes sense, that was what it was. I was expecting a brighter, more intense blue NARS Night Flight kind of look, and while it did impart more color than my usual daytime “three shades of vanilla” eyeshadow look, the layerable color is quite wearable. This led to trying out shades that I’d never usually try each night before I took off my eye makeup, and eventually, I started experimenting in the morning with different variables. For instance – a brown tinted moss green makes sense for a crease color. But what about a wintergreen shade? Or a Kelly green shade? The beauty of this palette is that the formula is so sheer, it takes several color washes to really goof.

I also like the palette for tweaking lipstick colors. I wanted to make a pomegranete shade a bit richer the other night, and I dusted on some brick red color, followed by a dot of fushcia in the center of the lip. The brick red added depth, the fushcia didn’t show as a pink but rather just as a highlight over the basic lipstick. The same principle follows for any shade that needs to be lightened or darkened after application, or needs to be nudged a shade or two over. And if you are looking for a brighter smile, it can’t hurt to add some blue to any lip shade – a perfect use for the many blue based shadows in this kit.

This palette makes a great gift for a teen learning makeup application or anyone looking to experiment with shades. After as many years as I’ve spent playing with makeup, I still came across new looks that work for me, and rediscovered some hues that I had forgotten I liked as much. This weekend I picked up the Mini Eyeshadow Palette (32 shades) for my gym beauty bag – great for when I hit the gym and am then headed back out or back to work. The pinks, corals, and reddish brown shades also work great as blushes (think in terms of Benefit’s Georgia or Dandelion in terms of intensity of wash), just be careful to not get any nearby colors on your brush (pinching the bristles works). It’s one impressive little kit!

Benefit Cosmetics Finding Mr. BrightI love adding brightness to the skin, be it on bare skin or with makeup. Stephanie from Benefit Cosmetics has a great Youtube tutorial on using the products in the Benefit Mr. Bright kit – pay particular attention to her techniques – once I had the makeup artist at my local Benefit counter show me these tricks, using the products became so much easier! Enjoy!
