Collagen Building Suncare
Mad Hippie Facial Sunscreen

July 23, 2020 · 5 Comments

Hate wearing sunscreen because of the chalky white cast it leaves on your face? Mad Hippie has you ”covered” with Mad Hippie Facial SPF. It’s a natural, 30+ broad-spectrum sunscreen that uses amazing antioxidant oils to treat skin AND negate that icky chalky sunscreen residue.

Mad Hippie uses Red Raspberry Seed Oil which saves *and* builds collagen

Sunscreen is a scientifically proven form of skincare. Certain ingredients – some natural, some chemical – either absorb, reflect, or scatter UV rays. Sunscreen is mandatory for aHA, Vitamin C, and retinol users.

But many natural sunscreens use Zinc Oxide which leaves a chalky white film on skin. Have you ever skipped sunscreen just to avoid that cakey chalk look?

Dries down with no chalky cast or sticky residue

Mad Hippie found a solution to this problem in their Facial SPF. The unique ingredient profile negates that pasty white film with a special combination of treating oils. Let’s take a look at the ingredients that discretely treat and protect your skin.

ingredients

Zinc Oxide

Zinc Oxide is a safe, broad-spectrum physical blocking agent. Zinc Oxide  is a safe mineral verses a chemical.

It protects the dermal layer by “bouncing” sun rays off the skin.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera treats sunburn, and helps prevent it.  Aloe Vera soothes minor burns, scrapes, and heals the skin.

Aloe Vera

This skin “food” heals, hydrates, and accelerates skin cell growth. It provides anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. It provides nourishment to the skin as it contains Vitamins A, C, Bs, and E as well as minerals and enzymes.

Wild Carrot

Wild carrot is also known as Queen Anne’s Lace.

Wild carrot bloom

High in Vitamin A, wild carrot provides care for rough, dry, flaky skin and protects normal skin. High in antioxidants, it repairs skin damage and wrinkles. [1]

It stimulates the growth of new tissue and new skin, thus promoting a clearer, brighter, evenly toned complexion. By contributing moisture it keeps skin supple.

Regular use on dry and cracked skin can result in the faster healing of scars. It calms irritation and the fades redness in acne marks and scars.  Oil from the seed has been used cosmetically in anti-wrinkle creams.

Avocado oil

Avocado

Avocado is a rich emollient.

Avocado oil decreases dryness and improves skin texture.

Rich in Omegas 3 and 6, Vitamins C, D, and E, Avocado Oil promotes scar healing and collagen production.[2]

Red Raspberry seed Oil

Red Raspberry

Raspberry Seed Oil protects against Ultraviolet sun damage.  Raspberry Seed Oil contains phytosterols which promotes new collagen production.

Red Raspberry seed oil contains Vitamin E to reduce skin damage.

Red raspberry seed oil contains Omega-6 and Omega-3 essential fatty acids to moisturize and lend a healthy glow to the skin.

And an incentive to wear your sunscreen: Red Raspberry Seed Oil saves collagen *and* helps build more collagen.

Shea butter definition at StyleChicks.com Defining Beauty Glossary

Shea Butter

Shea Butter

Shea Butter treats acne scars, including cystic acne dark scars.

Shea can feed the skin and overhaul the skin texture. It repairs sunburns.

Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate

Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate is a water-soluble variety of Vitamin C.

Sodium ascorbyl phosphate (SAP) is a stable precursor of vitamin C that ensures a constant delivery of vitamin C into the skin. [3]

SAP has a strong antimicrobial effect and is excellent for treating and preventing acne. It is also skin-brightening.

A Vitamin C included in a sunscreen takes a step out of my morning routine, plus ensures my sunscreen doesn’t pill over a C serum.

Jasmine

Jasmine

Jasmine Oil supports skin elasticity by preventing elastin degradation in the skin.  It is high in antioxidants.

Sodium Hyaluronate Acid Powder

Sodium HA is a non-synthesized form of Hyaluronic Acid. It has Hyaluronic Acid benefits, is a humectant and offers stronger moisture retention properties than regular HA.

Sodium Hyaluronate Acid absorbs deeper into the skin due to its’ lower molecular size.

Sweet Orange

Citrus Sinensis

Citrus Sinensis is Sweet Orange Oil.

Sweet Orange Oil is a potent, highly effective anti-inflammatory. It works ideally within a formulation with other oils, such as is in this product.

Sweet Orange Oil gently treats acne.

Tocopheryl

A form of Vitamin E used in skincare. It reduces fine lines and wrinkles, making skin more pliable and elastic.

Simmondsia Chinensis

Simmondsia Chinensis is Jojoba Ester.

Jojoba Seeds

Jojoba

Jojoba is an emollient, made of 98% monounsaturated fats. Jojoba is an exceptionally gentle oil that regulates oily skin, removes impurities and dry skin flakes.

Jojoba hydrates and softens wrinkles.

Polyglyceryl-3 Beeswax

Polyglyceryl-3 Beeswax is an ester of triglycerol and beeswax fatty acids.

Ideal for sensitive skin, this facial SPF combines refining Vitamin C, treating oils, and moisturizers. And it dries down without residue.

Vegan Clean & Hydrating: Sigi Skin Morning Glow Physical Sunscreen

October 28, 2019 · 28 Comments

Just because it isn’t Summer anymore doesn’t mean that you should stop wearing SPF. In fact, SPF is a 365 day a year commitment! Even if it is cloudy, damaging rays from the sun can harm your skin. If you hate the feel or finish of sunscreen, try a vegan sunscreen that behaves like a hydrating facial lotion: Sigi Skin Morning Glow Physical Sunscreen.

A lot of people don’t like the texture of sunscreen, but Morning Glow Physical Sunscreen from SigiSkin will change that. Not only does this thin, vegan formula fully absorb into the skin with no white aftercast, it also doubles as a potent daytime skincare treatment.

Ingredients

The formula contains Avocado and Acai Extracts, which contain Vitamin E and Fatty Acids to keep skin hydrated and supple. Avocado oil gives a nice bit of moisture to dry skin without making makeup run or leaving a greasy feel.

It also contains 4% Niacinamide, which works to moisturize and brighten skin. Niacinamide is excellent for undoing previous sun damage, so you will be both preventing future damage thanks to the SPF, as well as reversing skin aging caused by photodamage!

Avocado hydrates skin

Adenosine smoothes out wrinkles by energizing the surface cells of the skin. This helps them best performing their rejuvenating tasks. Ceramides protect the skin barrier and hold in moisture.

What it does NOT contain

All Sigi Skin products are formulated without:

  • parabens
  • dye
  • sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS)
  • butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT)
  • DMDM Hydantoin
  • phthalates
  • polyunsaturated oils (PUFA)

also:

  • cruelty-free
  • airless packaging for product freshness

Our Sigi Skin Experience

We love how supple and silky our skin feels when we wear this amazing sunscreen! It feels luxurious and fresh, not greasy or chalky. It is lightweight enough for warm climates and hydrating enough for the cold weather that will soon be coming to the NorthEast! And it smells gorgeous!

It is a sunscreen that behaves like a moisturizer.

Enriched with hydrating avocado, this sunscreen absorbs like a face lotion with no chalky or sticky residue

about the Brand

Sigi Skin founder Xenia LOVED makeup.

She traveled the world attending makeup academies and learning techniques.

She found Korea to be a hotbed of skin innovation and technology. While in Korea, she discovered a different approach to beauty. It focused foremost on preparing the skin.

With this new mindset, she created a curated line of simple to use skincare essentials called Sigi Skin.

Sigi Skin believes makeup looks its best on good skin. They believe taking care of skin means makeup can enhance, not just mask or cover up. Less is more when skin already looks good.

Sigi Skin is new to the United States, and we absolutely love being able to protect our skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays at the same time that we are hydrating and refining our skin!

Stay tuned for news about other Sigi Skin products we love.

Skincare: Herbal Choice Mari SPF-15 Day Cream

Herbal Choice Mari SPF-15 Day Cream

Herbal Choice Mari SPF-15 Day Cream

If you are even a sporadic Style Chicks reader, you know how strongly we feel about the daily use of sunscreen, 365 days a year, rain or shine.

I have become increasingly concerned about chemicals in sunscreens being absorbed transdermally into my system. A lot of chemicals such as oxybenzone are readily absorbed into your body and have been shown to cause allergic reactions in some people and cause toxicity. Synthetic fragrances and dyes can also get into your system, and can cause topical reactions as well. Trading sun protection for a rash or toxic chemicals in your system doesn’t sound appealing, does it?

That is why I like Herbal Choice Mari SPF-15 Day Cream. It is oxybenzone and octinoxate free. It is also free of chemicals and nano-particles, which can penetrate the skin and get into the system. It is also free from petroleum based ingredients. And from the Herbal Choice website, all the other things it is free of: “free from synthetic fragrances or dyes. Free from gluten, dairy, soy, corn, no GMO. Free from phthalates, parabens, preservatives. Free from beeswax, insects or animal ingredients”. And it is also Cruelty-free, vegan and vegetarian. Covers all the bases, doesn’t it?

While it comes in tinted shades (like a tinted moisturizer or a light BB cream), I selected the transparent shade. It does leave a bit of a white film. However, I’m finding of late that if you apply a sunscreen that leaves a white tint, then foundation is truer on my skin. I’m quite fair and have a cool skin tone, so consider one of the tinted shades if you aren’t quite as pale as I am.

So, the big question is, if it doesn’t protect the skin via chemicals, then how does it actually work? It contains Non-Nano Zinc Oxide, a well-known sun shield. It is a full-spectrum sunscreen, so you are protected from both UVA and UVB rays. It also has lovely skincare ingredients such as organic olive oil, organic lemongrass, organic lavender, and organic sage.

It has a delicate lemongrass scent that dissipates on the skin. The formula itself is incredibly emollient and makes my skin feel smooth and supple. It comes in a lovely purple glass jar to protect the formula, and it is quite pretty on its own.

I’m very happy to have found a sunscreen that not only protects and nourishes my skin but is also free of so many dangerous ingredients! I often hear absorption of chemicals as a reason women don’t choose to wear sunscreen, but there are alternatives, and this is a great sunscreen that won’t harm your body and is great for your skin! It also comes in an SPF 30, which is recommended by many dermatologists.

Find this great sunscreen at Nature’s Brands.

Majestic Pure Clear Body SPF 30+ Sunscreen

June 14, 2016 · Leave a Comment

Sunscreen is a fundamental component in any beauty arsenal to both protect the skin from burning but to also reduce premature aging and the production of sunspots and the eroding of collagen, which gives the face an older, duller look. Despite the importance of sunscreen for younger looking skin, many women don’t consistently use sunscreen because it leaves the skin too greasy feeling to apply makeup, and some prefer not to use the kinds of chemicals found in many sunscreens especially on the delicate facial skin. There are various reports about sunscreen chemicals can seep into the skin and absorb into the body. Some parents want to use only natural sunscreens on their children. For these reasons, I was excited to try Majestic Pure 30+ SPF Sunscreen, a 100% natural broad spectrum water resistant sunscreen for face and body.

I was intrigued by the concept of an all-natural sunscreen, not knowing that some oils were in fact, natural sunscreens. Some of these ingredients are Grape Seed Oil, Sunflower Oil, Organic Honey, and Coconut, all of which have natural sunscreen properties and the Palm Oil and Sea Salt support and enhance these properties

Grape Seed Oil is a non-greasy oil that serves as a natural sunscreen and has outstanding nourishing, anti-aging and moisturizing properties. Grape Seed Oil contains proanthocyanidins which are potent antioxidants that diminish the sun’s damaging effects and lessen the free radical damage. Grape Seed Oil in a sunscreen is also beneficial for reducing age spots, sunburn, and wrinkles.

Sunflower Oil Its nutritious composition makes it one of the healthiest oils for consumption as well as application on the skin and the hair. The main component of sunflower oil is linoleic acid. Its other components include oleic acid and palmitic acid. In addition to these, it contains lecithin, carotenoids, tocopherols and appreciable quantities of vitamins

Sea Salt can help mitigate the effect of sunburn and soothe skin and for the body is a natural deodorant.

Coconut Oil has an SPF value which is magnified by the other oils.

APPLICATION AND RESULTS

The consistency is creamy; I imagine this is what a thickened version of Clinique Dramatically Different Lotion would feel like on the skin. The scent is very mild, a light aroma of Palm Oil and a tiny bit of Coconut, but it is not sweet smelling. It applies smoothly upon contact with the skin and goes on evenly. It is very emollient and seems like a hand cream but melts quickly and does not feel sticky or thick on the skin. There is a very light sheen to the skin so that it could be worn without makeup and the skin would have a nice light deflection glow. I like the subtle glow it leaves on my arms and legs, my skin looks soft, dewy and toned.

Makeup did apply evenly over the sunscreen, but it was necessary to allow a good 15 minutes for the sunscreen to sink in before foundation application to not have my foundation melt away too quickly. On the body, I only wait a few minutes before putting on my clothes because it does dry down well.

I found I did not need to re-apply during the day, and while it is water resistant, the bottle recommends reapplying it after various outdoor activities such as swimming or towel drying.

CONCLUSION: Nice texture and scent, not greasy, soothing to the skin with no irritation. It is nice to have peace of mind that I can protect my skin and not be exposed to excessive chemicals.
