How to Best Use Hyaluronic Acid: What to Know

February 24, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Like an Instagram Filter for real life, Hyaluronic Acid plumps wrinkles & pores with intense hydration, making skin appear instantly youthful & dewy.

Why We Love Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid is by far one of our favorite skincare ingredients; we always look for it in serums and moisturizers because it makes skin look fantastic as it plumps out wrinkles and crinkles and makes skin glow.

But Hyaluronic Acid won “beauty secret weapon” status in our StyleChicks Favorite Skincare Ingredients Series because it helps any anti-aging active ingredient work more efficiently. Learn about the short term and long term benefits of Hyaluronic Acid.

WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?

Hyaluronic Acid occurs naturally in the skin, but it depletes as we age, and the body does not make more.

Topical Hyaluronic Acid application in the form of a cream, gel or serum replaces levels in the skin, giving a youthful glow.

WHAT HYALURONIC ACID DOES

Hyaluronic Acid gets “beauty secret weapon” status due to its’ ability to hold enormous amounts of moisture; it can draw moisture from the air, sucking it into the skin.

This moisture drawing ability has a dual benefit:

  1. It makes skin as plump and dewy as possible, creating an environment where the skin contains as much hydration as it can hold.
  2. It uses this water drawing ability to pull active ingredients deeper into the skin.

BENEFITS OF HOLDING MOISTURE

  • Wrinkles, fine lines, and pores temporarily “plump out” from all the moisture until they are barely visible, yet it does not make the skin seem puffy or bloated.
  • Hyaluronic Acid works wonders on crows feet, eleven lines, wrinkles on and around the mouth, forehead lines, and smile lines.
  • Hyaluronic Acid causes an optical blur effect, smoothing tiny imperfections in skin including on the throat, chest, and decolletage

What Active Ingredients to Pair HA With

Hyaluronic Acid SERVES AS AN ACTIVE INGREDIENT BOOSTER.

Many active ingredients that are amazing for the skin all do their best work in the deeper layers of the skin, but their molecules are typically too large to absorb deeply. Some examples are:

  • MSM
  • Vitamin C
  • Retinol
  • Peptides
  • B3 (Niacinamide)
  • Sea Buckthorn Oil

The solution? Hyaluronic Acid is like a friend with VIP access; it uses its’ moisture pulling ability to draw these active ingredients into deeper skin layers. The deeper active ingredients can work, the better the collagen production.

This means deep discoloration, sun damage, and acne scars are all fade for a much clearer look to the skin. And when collagen production happens at a deeper level, it better supports for skin, resulting in less sagging.

How to Best Use HYALURONIC ACID

It is imperative to use a moisturizer over your Hyaluronic Acid, as it draws as much moisture as possible into the skin.

If Hyaluronic Acid can’t get enough moisture, the surface of the skin can appear DRY, because the Hyaluronic is still “thirsty.”

I like to apply Hyaluronic Acid over damp skin; sometimes I mix a Hyaluronic cream or serum with some water before applying it to my face and eye area.

  • Less is more. Apply more only if needed, focusing on wrinkles, pores on the cheeks, and the wrinkles on the forehead and throat.
  • Apply Hyaluronic Acid over a Vitamin C serum or Peptide Serum to maximize your results
  • Do you use an at-home device such Handheld Light Therapy or the NuFace? Optimize the results by applying a layer of Hyaluronic Acid after washing off the conductive cream.
  • If you live in an area with higher environmental pollution, consider only using Hyaluronic Acid at night so that it does not pull the pollutants into your skin from the air.

Hyaluronic Acid serums we like

  • Aurora Cure Ultimate 100% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum: Professional Strength: a clear serum, not sticky, very potent, as it is 100% Hyaluronic, no fillers. I like to apply this during the daytime after I wash my face and it is still moist, I lightly apply the Hyaluronic, then pat on two light coats of moisturizer (Clinique Dramatically Different for example) and spritz my face with water in between layers to lock in hydration. Also very useful paired with a Vitamin C serum, but make sure to add a moisturizer on top!
  • SERUM CEUTICALS ALBUMIN & HYALURONIC ACID SERUM This is not a straight Hyaluronic, but the Albumin and Hyaluronic pairing together work wonders at reviving tired, older looking skin, and this has no chemicals or preservatives. Cool feature: this can be used ON EYELIDS (!!) without causing irritation.
  • It is amazing when applied to the throat, the face, jowls, on the shoulders, hands, and decolletage, use sparingly around the eyes. When it is applied, enlarged pores disappear, forehead wrinkles appear practically non-existent.

I.Lublin Anti-Wrinkle Serum

February 4, 2017 · Leave a Comment

A serum that targets fine lines & wrinkles around the eyes, lips & forehead using a Peptide that is clinically proven as effective as Renova.

GOT WRINKLES?

Discovering emerging fine lines and wrinkles can be very disconcerting. Often the sign of eleven lines (the lines between the eyebrows) or smile lines send some women (and men) straight for the Botox injections. But don’t rush off just yet: a safe and effective route to wrinkle reduction is a quality serum packed with anti-aging ingredients. Wrinkles are often a result of a loss of collagen and they look even worse with dehydration or dryness. One serum we like that can tackle both of these wrinkle-causing problems is I.Lublin Anti-Wrinkle Serum.

I.Lublin Anti-Wrinkle Serum

ABOUT I.LUBLIN ANTI-WRINKLE SERUM

This serum contains natural botanical ingredients including vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to nourish and improve your skin. The moisturizing formula fills in fine lines or wrinkles to reduce signs of aging, leaving skin with a beautiful glow.

Many products can temporarily improve the appearance of wrinkles, but what about long-term improvement? We read about the ingredients before use to see if a product is worth using on the face. I.Lublin Anti-Wrinkle Serum contains several quality ingredients that together are a great team in your wrinkle reduction line-up.

INGREDIENTS

This I.Lublin Anti-Wrinkle Serum contains many ingredients found in proven, high-end anti-aging products. Amongst them are select peptides that are the over-achievers of the anti-aging ingredient arena.

PEPTIDES: The I.Lublin serum contains two Peptides that stimulate collagen production. One of them (Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-14) is found to be very similar to the effects of Renova. The Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology (Feb 2009) says that this peptide can “stimulate cell migration, collagen synthesis, and fibroblast proliferation and scaffolding.”  In regular people speak, these are all the skin functions that when underperforming due to age, cause wrinkles. According to studies comparing Renova to this peptide, the peptide was found to be “equal to or more effective than Renova® cream in regard to therapy for fine lines and wrinkles of the periorbital region.”

Renova retails for $100-$150+, which in my book, makes this serum a steal just for the inclusion of this one particular power-Peptide. Hexapeptide-14 also creates a brighter and more refined skin texture.

Other anti-aging, skin friendly ingredients in this serum include:

  • Rosehips are a highly concentrated source of Vitamin C, the primary building block in collagen production. Collagen builds the scaffolding and structure of the skin and keeps it from sagging.
  • Dead Sea Salt stimulates blood circulation and calms skin irritation and skin redness. It also contains several minerals that nourish skin.
  • Grapeseed Oil is highly nourishing to the skin, providing the necessary building blocks for collagen production.
  • Argan Oil is a trending ingredient in hair and skin care as it both softens and nourishes the skin
  • A Retinol Ester (Vitamin A) helps lighten age spots and discoloration, improves skin texture and helps reduce the darkness inside a wrinkle, so it appears less deep. Also helpful for adult acne.
  • Goji berry (Lycium Barbarum Fruit Extract) is an antioxidant that softens the skin
  • Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil is a non-greasy oil high in linoleic fatty acid, and Phytosterols which are protective, aid in skin recovery and retain moisture.

APPLICATION & USE

Apply to skin after washing, while it is still slightly damp. Apply a thin layer to the skin using small circular motions to help it absorb. Focus on the eye area, the area around the lips and the forehead.

It is intended for night time use, so apply your nighttime moisturizer over the serum for best results.

RESULTS

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: My skin feels SO silky that I want to keep touching my face! Skin quickly drinks in the serum, and it fully absorbs within a few minutes and does not leave a greasy residue. My skin texture and tone looks even like I have an optical blurring filter on my skin, but it still looks like my skin, not fake. Wrinkles appear blurred. I applied a light moisturizer afterward as instructed, and my skin looked dewy. There is no stinging or irritation.

NOTE: Only a thin layer is needed, I used two pumps total for my eyes, face, and throat, and had a little left over for my collarbone

AFTER CONTINUED USE: Due to the 21-day skin cell turnover cycle, for the Peptides to do their job, they must be used daily for at least 30 days to see results. So use the serum every evening for a month to assess improvement. I did see results faster than a month, with a softening of expression lines before the actual cell turnover occurs.  I have used pricey Renova in the past, but I was particular impressed with the I.Lublin Anti-Aging Serums’ ability to tackle fine lines around the eyes and mouth area, and the softening of fine lines on the forehead. The skin around my eyes looks softer and younger now, and the wrinkles and fine lines are not so noticeable. I also find my undereye concealer is not settling into these fine lines as much, which to me, makes me think they have improved in texture and depth.

I am particularly impressed with the results around the lips/mouth area. My mouth area appears more aged than the rest of my face, showing fine lines and dryness, as well as enlarged pores and uneven texture. This area has been resistant to most anti-aging serums. Injections and fillers around the mouth can have such varied results; it is a treatment option I would prefer to avoid as long as possible. So I am very pleased to find a product that can address aging and fine lines around the lips and give a natural, younger look.

PACKAGING

The I.Lublin Anti-Wrinkle Serum has bright, colorful gift wrap with a bow. Anyone who expresses concern over wrinkles likely is searching high and low for a solution. The gift wrap makes for a great gift for a special friend who wants to safely improve the appearance of aging and wrinkles on their skin.

CONCLUSION

Before considering injections or procedures to reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles and lines, invest in a quality serum that can best enhance collagen production, treating existing wrinkles and preventing new ones, as well as make skin more refined and soft. I.Lublin Anti-Wrinkle Serum moisturizes skin while providing nourishment to the skin to help it become soft and supple again. It is especially effective around the eyes, lips, and forehead; it helps tackle some of the most aged skin areas of the face for a much more youthful look.

Sea Buckthorn Oil: What to Know and How to Best Use It

February 1, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Sea Buckthorn Oil is the “hostess with the mostest” of the StyleChicks Favorite Skincare Ingredients series, Sea Buckthorn Oil has over 200 nutrients to work wonders on delicate eye skin, wrinkles & stretch marks.

Sea Buckthorn Oil reduces wrinkles, fine lines and acne

Sea Buckthorn Oil comes from these tiny berries. Topical application reduces wrinkles, fine lines, and acne

WHAT SEA BUCKTHORN DOES

Sea Buckthorn Oil is an ingredient worthy of your skincare routine.

With over 200 nutrients to nourish the skin, it heals skin damage including scars, burns, and abrasions. It soothes eczema and treats acne.

But my favorite thing about Buckthorn Oil is it treats aging skin and sun-damaged skin as if it is an injury or wound. Sea Buckthorn thinks it must remedy the situation immediately. I feel ya, Sea Buckthorn. So it “calls the troops” together, making repairing cells “rescue” the aging skin by working overtime building as much collagen as possible.

That makes Sea Buckthorn a great ingredient in a vitamin C serum. C provides the building blocks for collagen while Sea Buckthorn tells the skin to make collagen. Go team!

WHAT IS SEA BUCKTHORN?

Sea Buckthorne Oil is called the “wonder oil,” Seaberry or Hippophae Rhamnoides.

Sea Buckthorn oil is extracted from small orange berries.

Sea Buckthorn Oil is like a who’s who of nutrients including:

  • vitamins A, B1, B2, D, K, and P
  • providing Vitamins C and E, and serving as a super-anti-oxidant
  • carotenoids; flavonoids;
  • amino acids;
  • phenols; folic acid; organic acids;
  • 20 mineral elements
  • essential fatty acids.
  • It uniquely contains all four omegas: omega-3, omega-6, omega-7, and omega-9.

SEA BUCKTHORN OIL Benefits

This cocktail of repairing nutrients is what makes Sea Buckthorn Oil so useful for general skincare and for:

  • the repair of eczema
  • wounds and scars
  • stretch marks
  • aging skin concerns including plumping wrinkles and fine lines
  • It works wonders on the undereye area
  • soothing the redness of sun damage
  • nourishing skin
  • gently but effectively treats acne and fades acne scars, including stubborn adult acne.

Organic Sea Buckthorn oil can immediately reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines because it plumps up the skin.

PRODUCTS CONTAINING SEA BUCKTHORN OIL

Sea Buckthorn is typically found in midrange to expensive skincare product lines.

We’ve located a few well-priced serums we like that contain Sea Buckthorn. They are:

  • InstaNatural Vitamin C Serum
  • Skin2Spirit Organic Caffeine Eye Whip Cream reduces puffy eyes
  • Supergoop Forever Young Hand Cream with Sea Buckthorn SPF 40 to make hands look younger.
  • Azure Naturals Vitamin C Skin Serum: Contains Hyaluronic Acid, helping that Sea Buckthorn sink deep into the skin
