New Products: Kinerase Clear Skin Starter Kit

May 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I love Kinerase for soothing my rosacea, so I was excited to see Kinerase Clear Skin Starter Kit at Sephora. It’s difficult to find acne prevention products for sensitive skin, but this three piece kit (a skin regulating mask, a treatment serum, and a lightweight oil-free moisturizer) keeps your skin clear while being mindful that your skin is sensitive. I’m looking forward to trying it.

Find it at Sephora.com for $85.

MAC Skinsheen Leg Spray: What to Know

May 6, 2008 · 5 Comments

My legs are really pale. We’re talking complete lack of color here. And I don’t tan, I go straight to burning (theoretically, of course – I’m a sunscreen girl). And if I use a self-tanner, it just becomes blatantly obvious that I used a self tanner since I’m pretty pale everywhere else too.

What Is MAC Skinsheen Leg Spray

So I’m pretty excited to try MAC’s new Skinsheen Leg Spray. Since it provides low coverage while adding radiance and sheen, it works for us pale gals since it gives more of a natural sunkissed look rather than attempting to give the appearance of a tan.

And since it’s a gel formulation, it gives your legs sheen – I’ve tried various leg sprays over time, but it always gives a matte foundation finish, not a healthy skin sheen. And best of all, no fake-tan streaks!

Where to Buy It

Available at M.A.C for $22.50.

Free shipping with code SKINSHEEN through May 11th.

Alison Raffaele Foundation Sponge

April 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Since it was 75 degrees here today, I decided it was officially time for my seasonal makeup bag clean-out – take out the Winter stuff, put in the Springy stuff. I was excited to find I had a new Alison Raffaele Foundation Sponge stored away from last year – I love this sponge.

Instead of the typical wedge shaped sponge, this high quality sponge has a slightly rounded rhombus shape (you really don’t get to use the word rhombus much as a beauty writer!), which allows you to distribute foundation evenly in spots that a regular sponge or brush would deposit way more than you need – like the creases above your nostrils.

I find that it works best if you wet it down first and then dip it into foundation – using a wet sponge makes the foundation more sheer and natural looking – and if too much does end up in one spot, you can just flip over the sponge and correct it – the water will take the excess off, but not everything – so you can control how much coverage you’ll get.

Just to see if there was any difference, I tried wetting the sponge down with the iTech Energy Water System, and I got far more luminous and smooth coverage than with regular tap water – it’s a good combination of products.

These sponges are incredibly durable too – they last through many, many washings.

You can get two sponges for $6 at Beauty.com.
