Something that frustrates me about many jewelry cases is that the layout often doesn’t suit the needs of my jewelry collection. The LangriaÂ Jewelry Box has ten sections that comprise seven types of storage compartments within the three layers of the jewelry case. This functional, multi-compartment design keeps jewelry organized and separate from other pieces to avoid scratching or tangling.

THE LANGRIA JEWELRY CASE LAYOUT

On the underside of the case lid, below the mirror, there is an elasticized fabric pouch pocket for holding especially small or delicate items such as small sentimental keepsake items, shoe clips, or hair jewelry. The elastic is secure, and items do not slip out when the case is closed.

The uppermost section of compartments is open-face.

In the rear of the case is a velvet lined ring roll section with eleven slots to hold rings, earrings, or pins/broaches. For small, simple rings, two rings may fit per slot. The padding is deep so that even a larger ring is securely kept in place with adequate room between each ring.
The front of the uppermost section divides into thirds:
- The left front third is a full velvet lined compartment for holding larger pins, broaches, necklaces, or dangling earrings.
- The middle front third section has a lid with a handle to provide extra protection for one or two small to mid-size pieces.
- The right front third section has three removable horizontal dividers that could hold cufflinks, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets.

Beneath the top open-face compartment section are two pull-out drawers (one narrow full-width drawer and one deep drawer with two sections).

The narrow drawer easily holds several necklaces and bracelets.
The deep drawer is suitable for jewelry in a drawstring bag, ring or bracelet boxes, or for holding loose pieces such as bracelets, broaches, bangles or a watch.

WHAT MAKES THE LANGRIA JEWELRY BOX SPECIAL?

While this case looks pretty on a dresser, I particularly like that the jewelry box is shaped like a vintage style hard case handbag, and it has a notably sturdy wear-proof handle to carry the case. This portability makes it a very useful item for transporting jewelry for various occasions.

TRAVEL: In addition to holding jewels at home, I like that the sturdy wear-proof handle and case construction makes the Langria Jewelry box ideal for traveling with jewelry. Some events that it would be particularly useful include destination weddings (helpful for the bride, bridal party or wedding guest), for extended business trips, vacations, and special occasion events. Jewelry packed within luggage can get lost or stolen; the Langria box is “purse-sized” at 8.9 x 6.1 x 7.5 inches, it weighs about a pound and can be kept discretely in a carry-on bag.

WEDDING JEWELRY CASE: Wedding jewelry comes in many forms: Heirloom pieces with sentimental value, handmade jewelry, delicate vintage jewelry finds, rented and borrowed jewelry, and pieces purchased just for the wedding. The body and face are highly detailed. I like the owl’s calm but expressive look. The ring is fully detailed on all sides, and the owl face appears on both sides of the ring.

JEULIA OWL RING DESIGN & MATERIALS

PRIMARY STONE

The primary stone is a 6.2 Carat prong-set yellow Topaz.

CUT: The Topaz in the Owl Ring has a 57 facet Round Cut. This cut is the most efficient in capturing a stone’s brilliance, fire, and sparkle, as it reflects light back to the viewer. The Round cut is a Brilliant cut variant typically used on more expensive diamonds.

COLOR AND CLARITY: The Topaz’s table has a mined gemstone appearance, with a variance of light and dark golden hues. I see subtle flecks of amber, green on the break facets and at times, flicks of orangey-red reflected in the star facets. This variance is far superior to the single tone look of some created gemstones; those are the kind that can appear too bright or over-saturated. The Jeulia Topaz has subtle and bright flecks of color, yet it is not TOO yellow compared to mined stones.

SIDE STONES

The side stones are eighty-five White Sapphires in prong and bezel settings. They are primarily in the owl’s eye and face design. These created Sapphires have a hardness of nine. For reference, diamonds have a hardness of ten and Cubic Zirconia is eight. The eyes are created Topaz and have a fair amount of glint and sparkle, especially casts of dark gold and green.

RING METAL

The ring is Sterling Silver with Rhodium. Rhodium, a member of the Platinum metal family, and has a Platinum appearance. It enhances scratch resistance and gives off a brilliant reflective look to the Sterling Silver base. Rhodium is what makes a modern ring look shinier than vintage rings.

The Sterling design includes a feather pattern of the owl body along the sides of the ring, as well as design accents to enhance the White Sapphire stones, especially along the eyes.

ABOUT CREATED GEMSTONES

The Jeulia website indicates they use lab created stones that are “chemically, physically and optically identical to those mined” but with few to no natural imperfections which give the ability for an ideal cut creating maximum fire and sparkle. Some advantages to lab created stones include that they are an ethical choice, a lighter carbon footprint and more affordable than a mined stone.

CREATED AND MINED GEMSTONES: SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES

IDENTICAL CHEMICAL COMPOSITION

Jeulia uses created stones of the exact chemical composition as those mined. In scientific speak, Topaz is a silicate mineral of aluminum and fluorine with a simple chemical formula that can be grown in a lab to crystallize just as a mined gemstone crystalized. The gem’s “ingredients” are the same, the crystallization result is identical, barring chemical impurities causing imperfections. The difference is a mined gemstone sustains scratches, cracks, and damage over time that reduce the available cut style options. That’s not an issue with created stones.

GEM APPEARANCE

I see little difference between my grandmother’s topaz and the created topaz in this Jeulia Owl Ring. The Owl Ring is slightly more saturated but within the scope of the natural color variances seen between mined Topaz stones. Under a jeweler’s loupe, the created stone doesn’t have the tiny blemishes found within mined stones.

RING CRAFTSMANSHIP

There are no loose pieces, fittings or stones. There are no uneven surfaces or detailing. There are no mismatched joints or uneven seams.

CUT: DISPLAYING THE OPTICAL BRILLIANCE & CLARITY OF CREATED STONE

Lab-created stones are ideal for cuts requiring clarity including the Round cut seen on this Topaz, and the White Sapphire’s “Hearts and Arrows” cut. Lab-created stones have the optical symmetry equivalent to a grade “Excellent” diamond. These cuts are typically seen on expensive pieces.

Both cuts give a traditional gemstone appearance to a created stone, by best displaying their optical superiority. The result’s a near perfect repeating pattern in the gemstone crown.

RING PRESENTATION

The Essential Traveler Bag

I’ve long admired and envied women who get through their day and their lives needing to carry only a small bag.

Throughout my life, I’ve felt the need to anticipate and pack for every possible daily eventuality. But now a torn rotator cuff and a request to review the Essential Traveler bag has led me to lighten my load, and to my surprise, I’m getting along just fine with what I can fit into my beautiful new little leather purse. Actually, I can fit a lot into this handy purse!

The Essential Traveler

The purse itself is a high-quality gorgeous Wine colored leather with five exterior compartments, four of which have zippers. The central interior part of the purse also has a zippered closure. The bag measures 7″ by 8.5″ by .5″ and has an adjustable shoulder strap. The front zippered pouch compartment comfortably fits my RFID wallet. My ring of fifteen keys neatly stores in the compartment directly above and behind the front pouch without bulging. The top front zippered compartment is a great place for coupons in that it is more than seven inches deep. I keep my checkbook in the back zippered compartment and a pack of tissues plus and a pack of mints in the open compartment.

That leaves the entire interior to hold a comb, compact, lipstick, glasses case, and whatever else a particular trip might require, such as a magnifying glass, which is an essential for weekend excursions.

Why a magnifying glass, you ask?

I’m now enjoying the bag daily, but one day of the week it has become irreplaceable – going to estate sales on Saturdays! Both my hands are now free to examine jewelry with a magnifying glass and to be able to hold the piece securely with the other hand.
