Health: Islands Miracle Ultra 50 Probiotics

August 28, 2016 · Leave a Comment

Islands Miracle Ultra 50 Probiotics

Islands Miracle Ultra 50 Probiotics

Most of the time, we think of digestive health when we think of probiotics, and they are great for that purpose. However, a lot of the other amazing effects that Probiotics have are often overlooked. For instance, probiotics can help with energy. Additionally, since probiotics assist your body in detoxifying, they are wonderful for skin. For these effects, I looked for a good brand of probiotics, and Islands Miracle Ultra 50 Probiotics seemed especially promising.

Islands Miracle Ultra 50 Probiotics is a quality formula. Many probiotic formulas only contain a few strains of good bacteria, but this formula contains eighteen high potency strains. Additionally, it contains prebiotics. I have tried using prebiotics and probiotics in the past, but they have been different pills at different times of day, so being able to take two pills once a day that contains both prebiotics and probiotics is nice. And since it is a time-release formula, it doesn’t wash through your system fast; it works to keep your system running well all day.

I have been kind of dragging in the past couple of weeks. I’ve been busy, and it has been taking its toll. After a few days of the probiotic, I noticed that I had more stamina. Not enough that I felt like running 10 miles every morning, but enough to be noticeable. I wasn’t doing anything else that could account for my extra pep, so I think it is likely the probiotics.

Likely due to being tired, my skin started looking a little dull before taking the probiotics. I tried all of my usual creams etc., but when you are tired, it shows on your skin. After a few days on the probiotics, I noticed the color started returning to my face. More impressive than that, I noticed that my skin was less congested. So, if you are a fan of facials, consider this probiotic as a nice add-on for achieving clear skin.

One of the things I like about Islands Miracle Ultra 50 Probiotics is that they are wheat-free. While I don’t have a gluten sensitivity, I do recognize that wheat is hard on the body, and I try to be moderate in consuming it in foods. However, it doesn’t make sense to ingest it in a probiotic! I never really thought about it until I saw that Ultra 50 Probiotics doesn’t have wheat, and then went and checked other brand’s probiotics, and sure enough, they do contain wheat. So if you do have gluten sensitivity, then this is definitely the brand for you! I am, however, definitely lactose intolerant, so the fact that it is also lactose-free is a definite help. It would make even less sense for me to take a probiotic that contained an ingredient that made me sick to my stomach.

As far as digestive help, I noticed that my stomach seems a little flatter this week, so taking this probiotic is a definite help there!

I am happy to have found a superior formula like Islands Miracle Ultra 50 Probiotics. It’s an easy way to add potent probiotics to your diet!

Health and Wellness: Microbiome Plus GI Advanced Probiotic and Prebiotic

June 30, 2016 · Leave a Comment

Lee tested out the Microbiome Plus GI Advanced Probiotic and Prebiotic kit to see if it would work for her. Here’s her impressive results:

My interest in trying probiotics stems from vague GI complaints I’d been experiencing for, probably, 6 to 7 years. These have been relatively minor – not to the degree to prompt seeking medical attention but bothersome enough to discuss with my husband from time to time. It is my belief I have digestive changes due to aging along with attempting to incorporate more vegetables into my diet. Also, I think lactose sensitivity or intolerance that many people develop over time could also be a feature.

I’d previously tried drugstore probiotics as well as yogurts advertising probiotic activity without problems but also with no noticeable benefit. That being the case, I didn’t stick with those products long term.

Only recently did I learn about the importance of prebiotics, in fact, heard about them for the first time while watching a public broadcasting fundraiser featuring a Harvard-trained neurologist who advocates prebiotics for brain health.

So, when the opportunity to try Microbiome Plus+ gastrointestinal supplements presented itself I was entirely open to it but, based on my previous experience with probiotics, had no particular expectations.
It is easy to take one each of the probiotic and prebiotic capsules twice a day with meals. They’re easy to swallow and have no initial taste or aftertaste.

After just a few days I noticed there was nothing to notice about how my stomach felt. No rumbling, no discomfort from gas, nothing at all to distract me throughout the day. In fact, I just stopped thinking altogether about my stomach day and night.

Since the benefits seemed to take effect so unexpectedly soon after beginning to take the supplements, it did occur to me it might be coincidental, so I decided to wait and see but, so far, the prior symptoms have not returned, and I’m feeling more comfortable than I have in years.

Elimination had not been a problem (neither constipation nor diarrhea), so I wasn’t looking for help in that area. But I was pleased the supplements did not have any effects interfering with my already acceptable status quo on that score. I guess if it’s not broke the product doesn’t attempt to fix it.

Being quite satisfied with my results, I will certainly continue using Microbiome Plus+. From the pricing research I’ve done to date, $30.00 for a month’s supply appears to be about as low as it goes but, to me, that seems a small price to pay (less than the proverbial cup of coffee per day, and all) for relief from the distracting, long- term discomfort I’d formerly experienced.

Tea Tuesday: Midori Spring ECO Class Culinary Grade Matcha

March 8, 2016 · Leave a Comment

StyleChicks has long touted the value of green tea for glowing skin, for its anti-oxidants, for healthy weight loss or maintenance by kick-starting the metabolism, and for general hydration. Green tea makes for an excellent anti-inflammatory agent within beauty products, and holds many well-known health benefits. Staying well-hydrated with a quality loose leaf green tea is a beauty treat that cant be easily replicated. While most of us have heard of green tea, Matcha is somewhat less well-known kind of green tea. It is considered the equivalent of numerous cups of green tea, and has significant health and beauty benefits.

Matcha is a fine milled powder green tea variant. It is naturally lighter tasting than many green teas but not too sweet. This Matcha, as stated in the description, is a Japanese Matcha with a process that increases its’ oxygenation and affords optimal at-peak tea leaves. It is a fresh green, natural taste, sort of earthy, but not too overwhelming, especially when tempered with other balancing flavors such as vanilla, maple syrup, or a fruity blend. It is a very fine mill that blends well, which is nice to not find lumps of the powder in a baked good or smoothie.

This particular Matcha is a culinary-grade Matcha, not a ceremonial drinking Matcha. This means it is too concentrated for just stirring into your hot water to make a green tea as it will make your tea taste much too bitter. It could however, blend well into a mixed drink, such as a latte or other mixed beverage. Matcha adds a nice anti-oxidant feature to various recipes, which is especially useful in the winter when good, fresh fruit is less available. I like how pure the process is to avoid unnecessary chemicals or additives in the process or product. I am personally not a health-food devotee, but there is no reason to be exposed to excess chemicals, especially in a food or drink product.

This is a very good price compared to many of the Matcha varieties available, and just a bit goes a long way in a recipe; this bag will last for a while. It is easy to find several recipes online for smoothies, breakfast breads and muffins, protein shakes, even Matcha green tea ice cream.
For those who cook for finicky eaters, or are fussy themselves, there is always the issue of appearance. The natural green color, once mixed or baked into a product, is not murky or lima bean color, which might turn some people off from using the Matcha, it is a fresh springy color that is visually appealing.

This recipe was adapted from Gena Hamshaw’s Matcha Green Tea Chia Pudding recipe. She adds fresh fruit; mine uses almonds, and sometimes, dark chocolate chips. The pudding is a nice switch from a morning, mid-afternoon or pre-workout smoothie as it is rich in anti-oxidants, calcium, protein and healthy fat. (The Full Helping http://www.thefullhelping.com/matcha-green-tea-chia-pudding/)

I like this combo of Matcha and chia seeds to have some invigorating energy without feeling caffeine jitters. There is a point in the day that I really need a pick-me-up but I dont want more coffee because I have had so much caffeine that my heart-rate is about as fast as a hummingbirds. So I find a Matcha based tea, smoothie or baked item (some people even add a little Matcha to their pancake mix!) with about one-third the caffeine, gives a nice natural energy boost.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups almond milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp Matcha powder
  • 6 tbsp. chia seeds
  • 2 tbsp. maple syrup (optional)
  • sliced/diced almonds or dark chocolate chips to taste (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add in the blender the milk, sweetener, vanilla, and Matcha together and blend in pulses until the mixture is smooth.
  2. Add the Chia seeds to a bowl. Pour the liquid over the chia seeds. Stir thoroughly. Stir again every few minutes for the next fifteen minutes. Refrigerate for at least one hour or overnight.
  3. Stir the mixture once more, add almonds to taste. Makes 2 servings.
