Sometimes people with good hair break a leg – Dry Shampoo to the rescue

December 26, 2011 · Leave a Comment

Our Dad recently broke his leg. He’ll be in a cast for a few weeks and he can’t quite get the angle right to wash his hair without getting the cast wet, so he won’t be able to use any of the wonderful traditional shampoos we give him.

Now, let me describe my Dad’s hair. It’s fantastic. It’s thick, lush, dark with some super shiny grey, and full with a light wave. If he was a TV news man, you would trust him based on his hair alone. If I had his hair, his bright blue eyes, and his naturally red lips, my morning routine would take about five minutes (I don’t, and it doesn’t.) And he’s due for a haircut, so it’s even fuller and lusher at the moment.

Our Favorite Dry Shampoos

Of course, there is another option. We’ve talked about how much we love dry shampoo for styling, especially volumizing formulas like Neil George Refresh Dry Shampoo and Oscar Blandi Pronto Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray. Works great for styling, and works great for times you can’t wash your hair.

What to Know About Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo

Our Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo Experience

Armed with Pronto Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo, Lyn showed Dad what dry shampoo can do. I’ve always been impressed with what the product can do with our long hair, but I was even more impressed at how volumizing it is on short hair like Dad’s. He was left with his hair as full and shiny as it typically gets after a regular shampoo and a use of our T3 dryer.

Where to Find It

Find Oscar Blandi Pronto Invisible Volumizing Dry Shampoo Spray at Lock & Mane.

Why Caudalie Vinosource Quenching Sorbet Creme is Special

October 17, 2011 · Leave a Comment

October sure is going fast. We recently mentioned Caudalie teaming up with Breast Cancer Charities of America for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They generously sent us one of their “Pink” products, Caudalie Vinosource Quenching Sorbet-Creme. If you purchase this or any other Pink Product, Caudalie will donate 15% of the proceeds to Breast Cancer Charities of America.

About Caudalie Vinosource Quenching Sorbet-Creme

Lyn and I refer to Quenching Sorbet Creme as “pretty in a tube”. This fantastic lightweight (and pink) moisturizer is incredibly hydrating, akin to a far heavier moisturizer. Yet the formula is soooooo silky and feels really good when you smooth it over your face, which is a really nice bonus in a highly effective moisturizer. It’s really a luxurious treat.

The Experience

What also impressed me is how good skin looks immediately upon application. It plumps out tiny little lines instantly and leaves skin porcelain-smooth. Skin looks smooth, even, and dewy – Pretty in a Tube indeed!

Find Caudalie Vinosource Quenching Sorbet-Creme at Caudalie-USA.com for $40!

Why Neil George Refresh Dry Shampoo Triple Botanical Complex is Special

August 1, 2011 · 2 Comments

Are you a fan of joy? Then I have a haircare line for you – Neil George Salon products. It is simply impossible under the laws of the universe in which we live to not be happy when you use these products.

OK, let me back up. I’ve only tested three of their products so far, but I think the above statement holds up. I have a pantheon of fabulous hair products in my closet, and Neil George products still excite me this much.

Why Neil George Refresh Dry Shampoo Is Special

Let’s start with Neil George Refresh Dry Shampoo Triple Botanical Complex. It’s really a fantastic dry shampoo. A lot of dry shampoos do a decent enough job refreshing your hair and scalp, but until now I haven’t found one that really makes my scalp feel like I washed my hair. Neil George Dry Shampoo leaves the scalp feeling like you just stepped out of the shower.

The Neil George Refresh Dry Shampoo Experience

What really impresses me, though, is the styling power of this dry shampoo. As you know I’m always on the hunt for a great volumizer, and Refresh Dry Shampoo both freshens hair and volumizes it like crazy, in no time flat. I’m particularly impressed with how easy it is to create bombshell hair out of summer frizz with this dry shampoo – divide hair into a few sections, flip head over, spray at the root, wait 30 seconds, massage the scalp, flip hair over, put a little extra in the front sections and you are good to go. It’s kind of a polished version of bed head. And hair is left soooo shiny after use – definitely no product residue, even on really dark hair.

The scent is subtle, which I like. A lot of dry shampoos have a pretty heady (no pun intended) scent, which isn’t really what I’m looking for if I’m using a dry shampoo. Refresh Dry Shampoo just smells like, well, freshly shampooed hair.

WHERE TO BUY IT

The fantastic Neil George Refresh Dry Shampoo Triple Botanical Complex is available the Neil George Salon website for $18.

What You Need to Know About Tarte The Sculptor Contouring Face Slenderizer

April 3, 2011 · Leave a Comment

I’m not sure if you have heard, but contouring is kind of a thing right now.

I pre-ordered tarte’s The Sculptor Contouring Face Slenderizer in Park Avenue Princess the moment I found out about it last year and have been faithfully using it since (and it has perpetually been on my list of products to review.)

Since then, tarte has come out with two other shades so I finally cracked down and decided to review the product.

Precision Contouring

Now, a disclaimer is in order when it comes to my thoughts on facial contouring: the high cheekbones and chiseled jawlines of the original 1990s supermodels shaped my aesthetic view greatly. Think Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford…really, anyone in the “Freedom ’90” video (and Lyn just reminded me – Paulina Porizkova too.)

So my approach to contouring is more obvious features, not obvious contouring, which is why I like tarte’s product line.

What You Need to Know About Tarte The Sculptor Contouring Face Slenderizer

The Sculptor is a twist-up crayon type pencil. It is easy to draw it right onto the area you want to contour, and then blend. It is buildable without a waxy muddled look. It blends nicely.

It comes in two shades, both very wearable and natural looking hues. Unlike powder contours it blends easily with no fallout.

IF I COULD CHANGE ONE THING

The only downside is it requires its own sharpener (sold separately) to keep that nice crisp line, but it works without a sharpener because it just swivels up from the base. Personally I opted against the sharpener.
