Recellergy Vitamin C Skincare Supplement: Anti-Aging From Within

April 11, 2016 · Leave a Comment

VITAMIN C’s ROLE IN ANTI-AGING SKINCARE

Vitamin C is necessary for anti-aging because it is a vital component in the production of Collagen. Collagen supports skin and keeps it taut, firm and gives it a youthful appearance. Collagen also repairs muscles, the supporting structure behind of our skin that keeps skin from sagging. The more collagen the better when it comes to skin, but collagen production decreases starting as early as in our thirties. This is often the start of tiny crinkles and wrinkles, dark spots, adult acne and a loss of luster in the skin.

We generally cannot by our dietary intake alone get enough Vitamin C for our bodies to enhance this collagen production process, so supplemental Vitamin C works infinitely better at giving your skin a sustainable level of Vitamin C to make collagen. Topical serums treat surface layers of the skin, and are useful, but Collagen production at the deeper layers – that which are the building blocks for taut, lifted skin and a natural, youthful glow – that happens at the deep levels of the skin. These layers require cellular level nourishment via supplemental Vitamin C.

HOW TO GET VITAMIN C TO THE CELLULAR LEVEL FOR COLLAGEN PRODUCTION

Not just any old Vitamin C does the trick: a UK study shows a daily dose of 1000mg of Vitamin C delivered in a specific WAY is the most effective way of increasing skin firmness. Because regular Vitamin C as found in our diet and many supplements leaves our body quickly, it is not as available to the Collagen production areas of the skin. However, when the Vitamin C is delivered by liposomes, it can deliver nutritional contents directly to where they are needed – including the skin.

To that end, Recellergy by Livon, a brand sold exclusively in premier salons and spas, uses this liposome delivery technique to get the Vitamin C to the skin, where it is needed to make collagen. This results in stronger skin, which means fewer wrinkles and a firmer appearance to the skin, It is not an aesthetic “quick fix” like a serum or a cream for the surface layers of the epidermis – (serums are great but limited) – but it works in as few as four weeks to make skin firmer from the dermis, the supporting skin that when full of collagen, gives the look of youth.

Side benefit: according to a UK study, Recellergy users said they also had an increase in daily energy levels and well-being within weeks of taking Recellergy Vitamin C.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH RECELLERGY

VITAMIN C RECELLERGY VITAMIN C comes in small packets with two notches on the top sides. For use once or twice a day.

  1. Cut straight across with scissors to open the packet, it is a gel-like liquid inside the packet.

2. Add the contents of the packet to one to two ounces of cool or room temperature beverage – not a hot beverage such as tea and don’t use it as an additive in the blender for your smoothie – the reason is the liposome delivery system is not to melt or blend – it may even clump a bit and not melt in your drink. It will also not mix into water, as seen in the photos below, but it mostly blends into a juice, like the grapefruit juice seen in the pictures.

In Grapefruit Juice

3. Drink the mixture on an empty stomach if possible and wait about 15 minutes to eat. That is all there is to it!

  • TASTE: There is not really a taste to it, my grapefruit juice tasted slightly more tart than normal, but I wouldn’t really notice a difference in taste.
  • TEXTURE: The packet says some may not dissolve in the beverage and this was true for me. The texture was basically unnoticeable, not gritty or sandy, not slimy. The portion of my beverage with the Recellergy Vitamin C that did not dissolve (as seen in one of the photos below of the almost empty glass) tasted normal but that swallow of the drink felt like a thicker juice more like a nectar, but it did not feel slimy or gritty in my mouth as if some foreign substance was in the drink. I didn’t really noticed it and I have a thing about weird textures on food.

CONCLUSION: Topical Vitamin C serums are very useful in anti-aging, and should be used in a skin care regimen, but they can only do so much for the surface dermis layer of skin. Real anti-aging treatment comes from Vitamin C reaching the dermis, the deeper skin level. Recellergy Vitamin C with its’ unique system of Vitamin C delivery gets a high dose of Vitamin C to the skin where it is needed for collagen production. It is a great tool for looking naturally younger.

Product Review: Valentia Royal Rose Hydrating Serum

March 30, 2016 · Leave a Comment

Valentia Royal Rose Hydrating Serum is a light soothing serum for sensitive skin with great ingredients to support delicate skin.

I have been using a Retinol at night paired with applying a Vitamin C serum during the day skincare program lately, and both require a very hydrating moisturizer to combat the dryness associated with retinol and Vitamin C. If a good soothing moisturizer is not used in tandem these anti-aging products can make skin dry during use and even appear temporarily older and make wrinkles appear deeper.

Valentia Royal Rose Hydrating Serum is a nice light moisturizer for the day with several ingredients to enhance the skin care regiment of someone with naturally sensitive skin or skin that is made sensitive by the use of various ingredients frequently found in anti-aging products.

Some research into the ingredients:

Evening Primrose Oil is wonderful as a vitamin supplement for women and is excellent as a topical ingredient to provide a light moisture layer without clogging skin
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) combats sallowness, wrinkling, blotchiness and the hyperpigmented spots in aging skin, especially in the thin skin of the eye area.
• Bearberry promotes melatonin which lightens brown spots and acne scars.

If you are not able to tolerate Retinol or Vitamin C, this serum is a viable way to address signs of aging like wrinkles, brown spots and moisture loss. If you can tolerate retinol, this is a great moisturizing serum to pair with them: it is lightweight and doesn’t clog skin, has great ingredients.

The serum also contains lavender and rosehip oil. Both are very good skincare ingredients but the scent is notable in this serum, as would be expected for a Royal Rose product. I prefer not to wear scented skincare but that is just a personal preference. It is not an offensive scent and both are base notes for many fragrances, so it is not a conflict with your chosen perfume scent if you chose to wear this during the day.

Valentia Clear Lift Revitalizing Serum

March 7, 2016 · Leave a Comment

This past weekend was pretty rough on my skin – a hotel room with harsh forced air, the water in the hotel room shower left my skin pretty raw, and a lovely meal that had an unexpected amount of sodium, leaving my face puffy and dull. So when I got home, it was time to pull out the big skincare guns.

Valentia Clear Lift Revitalizing Serum is a total powerhouse when it comes to revitalizing skin. Lactic Acid (which is a potent AHA) works to increase circulation, gently exfoliate dead skin cells, and boost cell turnover so your complexion is left refreshed literally overnight. I woke up the next day with a youthful glow. A lot of lactic acid products can be irritating, but because of soothing ingredients like Aloe Vera, Hyaluronic Acid, Jojoba Oil, and Vitamin E, skin stays calm and supple.

Other fantastic ingredients include Seaweed to oxygenate the skin. I tend to be skeptical of products that say they bring oxygen to the skin, but there is no denying the oxygenated glow that comes with applying Clear Lift Revitalizing Serum. Several Ingredients including Licorice Extract work to fight hyper pigmentation to give skin a nice even tone, and Argan Oil contains Vitamin E to keep the skin plump and youthful.

After using it for a few days what really struck me is that my skin is just so soft. I have used lactic acid products before, even at home lactic acid peels, but my skin has never been as soft after use. I think the combination of ingredients is really perfect for producing this soft, supple feel to skin.

Another thing I really like is the texture of this serum. It’s a little watery, which is what a good serum should be. Thicker than an essence, but not as thick as a gel. It layers beautifully under sunscreen and absorbs fully, just leaving a lovely glow.

The very subtle scent is wonderful as well – just a very light, delicate citrus.

This is the second Valentia product I have tried and I am more convinced that this is a fantastic line!

Trophy Skin RejuvadermMD Handheld Microdermabrasion System What to Know

December 16, 2015 · Leave a Comment

The amazing result I had with RejuvadermMD Microdermabrasion System by Trophy Skin surprised me since my skin is not flaky or rough, so I didn’t expect there would be much to exfoliate or buff. But I was wrong.

The RejuvadermMD Microdermabrasion System is an impressive tool. It diminishes the appearance of wrinkles and leaves skin brighter – that pinkish sort of awake, peppy younger, and SO very smooth and glowing. I keep touching my face to feel how soft with each use. I knew immediately it was a good purchase.

Trophy Skin RejuvadermMD Handheld Microdermabrasion System

My exfoliating routine was gentle, but lacking, as my skin can get lackluster: soft washcloths, at-home use of glycolic acid pads or Brazilian Peel AHA, gentle fruit acid washes, and on rare occasion, Clinique Seven Day Scrub, especially around the mouth. I moisturize well and of course, use sunscreen.

Here is an overview of the Microdermabrasion Tool and its’ different functions and a review with tips and tricks of each of the included heads and tips.

THE WAND TOOL

It is powerful for an at-home tool that comes with three heads: a diamond tip dermabrasion head, an extractor tip, and an infuser head to help serums penetrate the skin.

HOW TO USE THE WAND:  The wand comes with four speed settings, one lit up dot being the gentlest suction and speed. Press the button continuously until the first green light appears.

The tricky part is keeping constant contact of the suction wand on the skin, or else you skip sections. It is a balance between not pulling on delicate areas of skin too much while still getting benefit from the product, so people with less resilient, more mature skin might want to limit where they use the wand to avoid more delicate areas.

DIAMOND TIP:

Trophy Skin RejuvadermMD Microdermabrasion System Diamond Wand Tip

The circular diamond tip sands and buffs the skin while suction pulls away the resulting dead skin debris that become fine powdery debris whisked away by the suction. Brown spots look lighter and smoother. Surface gunk clogging pores and dry skin slough off so skin is less clogged. Wrinkles diminish when the dark impurities are sucked off it leaves the area smoother and able to better reflect light, making a wrinkle appear less deep and less noticeable. It also gives a smoother surface to apply makeup.

Used Filter

That was the stuff on my face. Ew.

Want to see the gunk that comes out of a face, the face you think has been scrubbed clean? Yeah, it’s not pretty.

Yep, this is the gunk sitting on your face right now.

Yep, this is the gunk sitting on your face right now.

Like a facial, don’t do dermabrasion right before an event, as tempting as it might be once you feel how soft and glowing skin is after the treatment. But you also can get red and irritated for a bit. I do it at least one to two days before to allow myself time to moisturize and hydrate.  Microdermabrasion + NuFace Trinity leaves skin SO glowing and youthful. There are four settings on the tool. Start at one and work up, it is doing more than you may realize at first. Delicate areas of skin will be red after, but not too irritated and the redness diminishes quickly once you practice technique.Try to avoid using the wand directly on active blemishes (more on that later) but blackheads and whiteheads will be much less noticeable.

I especially like how the microdermabrasion addresses eleven lines and the lines near the mouth. It is also great when directed at neck wrinkles and areas of the chest and de’colletage that get less-than-dewy looking and need a bit of attention, especially when dehydrated.

Used Filter

OK, I assume you have seen enough of this.

You can use it almost anywhere, including shoulders and upper back; two areas I didn’t realize were a little neglected despite using body scrubs on those areas. Moisturize after use.

Filter

Once you get the hang of it, advance to higher and more powerful settings on the tool, especially around the forehead and sides of your neck, shoulders, and chest. I also have been using it on an old shaving scrape that left a light scar on my legs, and on my hands, but it is a challenge to maintain the suction on an uneven surface.

TIP: When using the diamond tip, ALWAYS make sure one of the little black pads the size of the pencil eraser top are in the wand to prevent the tool from getting all that gunk on your face embedded into the tool. The diamond tip buffs skin so that a fine powder of debris comes off and lands on these black pads and looks like the photo seen above right.

EXTRACTOR HEAD
Don’t use the extractor attachment on the same location on the same day as the dermabrasion diamond head. The extractor pulls sebum and blackheads out of your skin. I didn’t expect much since I don’t have many blackheads, just some in the nostril curl. At first glance, the extractor doesn’t seem to have done much, and then I took a peek inside, and well, EWW.

I am a dainty skin-obsessed lady, I (judiciously) use one of those metal black head extractor tools, and I exfoliate and ALWAYS remove my makeup at night. So the fact that this much blackhead and sebum-y gunk was just sitting

These pictures are disgusting. You’ve been warned.

Here is a slideshow of some more pictures and how to use the device, and because there are more gross pictures of things you really don’t want to think are in your skin, I added some classy music to the background.

QUESTION:  CAN THE EXTRACTOR HEAD SUCTION OUT THE CONTENTS OF A PUSTULE PIMPLE?

Friendly advice: I was tempted to see if the extractor head could just pull the contents of an active, noticeable pimple that had formed a head and looked ready to be extracted with a gentle nudge from my handy metal blackhead extractor. The suction extractor tip is powerful, but not the tool for this kind of acne, because the suction held on one spot too long leaves an angry red mark on the surrounding skin leaves too much of an angry red, for lack of a better word, hickey-like mark, at least it did on me. Leave it to the Dermatologists, a trusty blemish extractor tool, apply a hot compress, or zap it with a good topical blemish cream.  This is more a tool for blackheads and whiteheads and pre-emptive skin care that removes the oil and debris trapping dead skin layers, leading to a less pimple-friendly environment in the long run.

Trophy Skin RejuvadermMD Handheld Microdermabrasion System Infusion Tip

THE INFUSER TIP HEAD
I am underwhelmed on the infuser head; it is just not doing it for me, which is a disappointment because I was excited about that feature. This company has made a solid quality product in the RejuvadermMD, so I would be excited to try their Labelle Ultrasonic Skin Spatula for product infusion.

VERDICT

This is a good tool especially for clogged or flaking skin, skin with brown spots and fine wrinkles, blackheads, and skin that could be smoother. Be careful around delicate areas, but it is very useful on skin on the neck and shoulders that should be treated like facial skin but often is subject to body skin exfoliating measures. Even if you don’t feel much need to exfoliate, this tool leaves skin with a fresh, youthful glow.
