Skincare: InstaNatural Glycolic Facial Peel

August 18, 2016 · Leave a Comment

Glycolic Acid makes for one of my favorite peels; it whisks away dead, rough skin to reveal soft, even, younger skin. It exfoliates gently and efficiently. InstaNatural makes a non-stinging Glycolic Facial Peel that works in one minute or less.

WHY USE GLYCOLIC PEELS
Even though they are a strong acid, Glycolic Peels are much gentler to the skin because it melts the “glue” that binds together older, dead skin with healthy skin, without harming the healthy skin or the fresh skin that is revealed underneath the older skin. This is much more gentle on skin, especially older skin because it does not scrub or pull on the skin the way scrubs and exfoliators tend to do. Because of this, Glycolic Acid Peels are particularly useful for skin that has begun to lose collagen. If you use Retinol Serums and Vitamin C serums, this is an excellent way to remove dead skin and accelerate dead cell turnover. Glycolic Acid addresses many skin concerns at once: adult acne, blackheads, wrinkles, age spots, uneven skin tone, flaky skin, and enlarged pores. It is not too drying for wrinkled skin, and it is not irritating to acne.

UNIQUE FEATURES
This works in under a minute and is paired with Hyaluronic Acid, Sunflower Oil, and Vitamin C to immediately nourish and treat the newly revealed skin.

APPLICATION
The peel is a clear, slightly heavier than a watery consistency, not as thick as a gel. It applies easily with the fingers, but because it is not a gooey gel, it swabs on evenly with a cotton pad, just like a toner. There is not a strong scent to it; it is neutral in the aroma. It quickly absorbs and does not feel sticky to the touch. I applied the peel to my face, neck, hands and decolletage. It did not burn, but towards the end of the minute I felt it on my skin, it felt warm, but my skin was not red, inflamed or uncomfortable.

When I read the instructions to apply it for one minute or less, I expected it to either not do very much or to burn quickly. Neither was the case. But make sure to read the directions, this is not the kind of Glycolic Peel that you leave on for 10-15 minutes. I tried using it for more than a minute or two a couple of times, but it is indeed too potent for leaving on the skin for longer than the directions indicate, so I stick with just using it for a minute, maybe two on less sensitive areas. However, it also does not leave skin raw or irritated; I could apply sunscreen and makeup afterward and go out in public without my skin looking like it had a sunburn, as can happen with some types of peels.

The peel washes off quickly and easily, and my skin was not irritated, which is a perk for using a Glycolic.

RESULTS
My skin was very soft and even, although I did not have visible amounts dead skin sloughing off except for some on my jawline. The next time I washed my face later that evening, there was more light exfoliation of dead skin. My skin looked very dewy and fresh. I have a new blemish that became drier and subsided after using the peel, and I have been using it to fade a few darker spots and a small acne scar. The blackheads on my nose diminished after one use. My hands felt soft, and my ragged cuticles and hangnails exfoliated off quickly. It did not irritate the delicate skin areas but left them soft. This seems gentle enough to use more than once a week, even if you use serums such as Vitamin C or Retinol.

Lift Care Vitamin C L-Ascorbic Acid Serum

July 14, 2016 · 4 Comments

An L-Ascorbic Vitamin C is the freshest and most powerful C you can get in serum. When I first saw that it was only 10%, I thought it might be less effective than many of the 20% Vitamin C serums commercially available. But since it an L-Ascorbic Acid variety of vitamin C, it is a more potent antioxidant and when paired with other specific ingredients as those which are seen in this serum, and can be a far more efficient skin treatment.

Lift Care Vitamin C L-Ascorbic Acid Serum

Lift Care Vitamin C L-Ascorbic Acid Serum

An L-Ascorbic based Vitamin C serum has superior anti-oxidant properties to traditional Vitamin C serums. This makes the Lift Care Vitamin C serum especially helpful for aging and photo-damaged skin. Even if you are younger but have over-done suntanning, the L-Ascorbic in this Lift Care Serum is ideal for rejuvenating skin, fading acne scars and treating current acne breakouts.

Secondly, L-Ascorbic Acid provides soluble Vitamin C on a topical level that can be used by the skin in the production of collagen. Providing the skin with Vitamin C is especially important as skin ages and natural levels of both collagen and Vitamin C decrease, which causes sagging and wrinkles.

APPLICATION
This is a lightweight serum that applies smoothly and dries down evenly without residue. Once the serum is dry, moisturizer, makeup, and sunscreen can be applied over the serum. I also apply it to my throat and upper chest. Skin appears dewy, not sticky.

RESULTS
I have a few acne scars that over time have become plum-brown marks on my cheeks. I also have a few lighter wrinkle lines along my forehead. Additionally, I have several blackheads and whiteheads around my nose and surrounding pores. These three problems both respond well to this L-Ascorbic Vitamin C serum, and the anti-oxidant properties help purge the sebum from blackheads and whiteheads, so my skin is clearer on the overall.

CONCLUSION: I like that this serum is suitable for both older and younger skin problems including sun damage, acne, scarring, brown spots, wrinkles, the need to use an anti-oxidant and increasing collagen production. Good price for a versatile, useful serum.

Brooklyn Botany Vitamin C Serum

Brooklyn Botany Vitamin C Serum

Brooklyn Botany Vitamin C Serum

I like that this serum is an L-Ascorbic Vitamin C, which is a much more potent, powerful version of Vitamin C than what is typically found in most Vitamin C serums. It is not a Vitamin C derivative, it is pure C, and as such, it can lose its’ freshness and potency quickly, which is why it is not found in many serums due to its’ limited shelf life. This serum has a special blend to preserve the L-Ascorbic for twelve months.

The serum applies smoothly and dries down evenly without being sticky. It leaves skin with a dewy, subtle glow. My skin did not feel dry, red or irritated and there is not a residual scent. To maximize the effects of this serum, use after washing the face, and leave skin slightly moist. Apply the serum, and allow to dry. After 10-15 minutes, use an eye cream and facial moisturizer over the serum. If you are going to be outside, wear sunscreen to protect the skin, as Vitamin C increases sun sensitivity.

This serum is particularly suited to sensitive skins as the preservatives are naturally soothing and have a buffering effect. The serum can be used once to twice a day. Vitamin C is used in the morning if you only use it once a day.

RESULTS
I find this gives a dewy glow to my skin and softens fine lines and dries blackheads and emerging blemishes. I have a few brown spots on my face that are very slowly fading. Vitamin C is especially effective on the forehead.

Vitamin C addresses these sort of topical skin concerns, but also is a vital component in the production of collagen in the skin. Collagen is the scaffolding that holds up the skin and keeps it from sagging and wrinkling. Because of this, I tend to use extra of the serum on my forehead, above my eyebrows and on crows feet to increase the collagen in these areas. Collagen production typically takes 1-2 months to become noticeable but results in tighter, firmer skin.

CONCLUSION: High-quality L-Ascorbic Vitamin C serum, suitable for sensitive skin. Effective at reducing the appearance of fine lines and acne scars, exceptional price.

Valentia Skin Care Even Glow Serum

Valentia Skin Care Even Glow Serum

Valentia Skin Care Even Glow Serum

WHY USE TOPICAL VITAMIN C?

Vitamin C Serum is a must-have anti-aging skin care product because it enables the production of collagen, a vital building block of skin that gives skin its’ support. Without adequate collagen supplies, the skin begins to sag, wrinkle and look dull. The body produces less collagen as we age, so the more collagen one can produce the better. Vitamin C also fades discoloration caused by brown spots due to aging, acne, sun damage and scars. Valentia Skin Care Even Glow Serum is a great Vitamin C Serum for this purpose.

RESULTS: I had pretty good results with this Vitamin C; it contains a few ingredients that are not frequently paired with C serums such as Sea Buckthorn Oil, which is an oil with fatty C and E Vitamins that can revive skin cells with its’ over 200+ skin nutrients. These nutrients not only reduce the length and depth of wrinkles, but they can soften rough skin textures including acne. I have a forehead wrinkle near my hairline above my right eye, the depth and length of which appears much softer with nightly use of Vitamin C serum. It also has lightened the look of the lines between my nose and mouth and made some rough skin patches on my cheek and forehead softer and more pliable. I like the Sea Buckthorn Oil in this serum. It is not sticky and applies smoothly. I had no skin irritation.

SERUM TEXTURE AND APPEARANCE
This 20% Vitamin C Serum is unique in that it is more of a very lightweight creamy liquid than a watery liquid serum, so it applies smoothly and evenly. Unlike other Vitamin C serums, it is a primarily opaque, light shade of creamsicle orange due to the coloring of the Sea buckthorn oil.

APPLICATION
The serum has a light citrus scent that is pleasant and dissipates on the dry down. A small pump of product is enough to cover the face and throat, too much will be sticky. Allow time for the serum to dry before applying makeup or sunscreen. Skin is not sticky after it is dry and makeup applies smoothly as long as serum is not over-applied. There is a glow to the skin that is natural and dewy but not fake looking. This glow is semi light-deflecting.

OTHER ACTIVE INGREDIENTS
In addition to the 20% Vitamin C, this serum contains the following anti-aging skin care superheroes:

Organic rosehip oil gives a glow to the skin. It is a natural source of Vitamin E and is suitable for even the driest, most sensitive skin. It contains powerful antioxidants such as lycopene and beta-carotene. These antioxidants remove toxins and improve skin texture. Visible results can be seen especially quickly on sun damaged skin.

Organic sea buckthorn oil can immediately reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines because it plumps up the skin. As previously mentioned, its’ contains many nutrients which have a variety of skin care applications including soothing the redness of sun damage, nourishing skin, providing C and E, and serving as a super-anti-oxidant.

Green tea extract reduces inflammation and is soothing, allowing active ingredients to do their job without excessive irritation to the skin.

Hyaluronic acid holds an exceptional amount of moisture to plump the skin and make it appear dewy and hydrated. Hyaluronic Acid is an excellent ingredient in a Vitamin C serum because it can draw the C deep into the skin. This results in the formation of collagen at a deeper level, which means less sagging and fewer wrinkles, as well as the fading of areas of deep dark discoloration due to sun damage, redness, and scarring.

Resistem is plant stem cells. Stem Cells are frequently used in anti-aging skin care products because they enable some stage of the collagen production process.

CONCLUSION: an efficient combination of natural ingredients that are rarely found in a Vitamin C serum, these ingredients are especially helpful for sensitive skin types who could use some gentle reparative ingredients.
