Why Love Treasured Locks SuperNatural Curl Tamer Gooseberry

January 24, 2017 · 1 Comment

A review of Treasured Locks SuperNatural Curl Tamer.  Tame unruly hair with a lush, natural hair mask containing Amla (a.k.a. Indian Gooseberry Oil) & Shikakai

Nothing beats a good hair day

But what constitutes a good hair day is subjective.

It seems that many curly-haired gals envy the smooth, shiny, silky hair of straight-haired gals. And often those with straight hair wish they had a head full of curly ringlets!

And then there are those of us with hair that marches to its’ own drummer. It won’t stay straight OR form a soft, loose curl pattern.

Natural curly hair is beautiful. But sometimes, you want to look like yourself, just more polished. If your hair has too much natural curl or frizz to work it into the style you want, check out Treasured Locks SuperNatural Curl Tamer.

What is Treasured Locks SuperNatural Curl Tamer

Treasured Locks SuperNatural Curl Tamer is an herbal hair mask. It provides major conditioning, frizz reduction and it loosens too-curly curls. This mask allows curly head girls to create straight hairstyles that last. If you straighten your hair and it still looks too wavy or wiry, or your hair looks dry and brittle once straightened, SuperNatural Curl Tamer can help.

SuperNatural Curl Tamer, is foremost, natural.

It conditions and hydrates all hair types, but is especially effective on natural African-American hair, relaxed hair and biracial hair. It also works wonders on naturally wiry or coarse hair, as seen on our model. Her hair grows in several sections. There are cowlicks, with uneven waves. There is  both very curly and straight ends that will not be coaxed into a softer hot roller curl.

It is also resistant to hair straightening without LOTS of product combined with lots of flat ironing. Any straightening attempts to leave her hair dry and damaged. She was concerned that chemical straighteners would add to the frizzy and damaged appearance or potentially cause hair breakage. So our model was eager to try a natural mask that could both condition her hair and help tame her curls into a manageable style.

WHAT’S SPECIAL ABOUT TREASURED LOCKS SUPERNATURAL CURL TAMER HAIR MASK

If you try to battle too-curly hair into a straight style, you likely use hot tools that can cause hair breakage. This pulling motion is also harsh on the hair roots, as hair is being pulled and yanked straight.

Treasured Locks has you covered with a fantastic combination of ingredients that not only softens and conditions hair, but makes it stronger, both at the root and within the body of the hair.

Best of all, it enhances the curl patterns of hair to make them softer, pliable and workable. We love that it is natural and uses some of our favorite hair-friendly ingredients.

Treasured Locks SuperNatural Curl Tamer Ingredients:

Henna strengthens brittle hair cuticles and reduces breakage. It also can loosen a natural curl. The henna works more efficiently when combined with extracts like Amla (Indian gooseberry) and Shikakai (Acacia Concinna). Both extracts are ingredients in this SuperNatural Curl Tamer.

Amla is known as a wonder fruit. This is the famed Indian Gooseberry Oil. It is a non-greasy wonder oil that has been used in India for years to help grow long, silky and shiny hair. Indian Gooseberry is an ingredient I look for in hair care because it makes my hair soft, silky, and pliable. Amla nourishes both hair and scalp and is reputed to promote hair growth and prevent gray hair.

Acacia (Shikakai) improves hair texture as a conditioning agent, and it nourishes the scalp to promote hair growth.

Neem Oil is like a facial for your scalp, removing sebum, dandruff and dry skin flakes and eczema that can all impair hair growth. It promotes hair growth by improving the health of the scalp, giving it a soothing, protective barrier. It also makes hair soft. Of note, you cannot smell the Neem within this product.

Rose powder adds fragrance as well as softens hair.

Multani Mitti is better known as Fuller’s Earth. It removes toxins from hair and scalp. Multani Mitti also facilitates blood circulation, which helps hair growth. It is a conditioning cleanser that makes hair smooth and shiny.

OUR EXPERIENCE USING SUPERNATURAL CURL TAMER

Like a spa treatment for hair, allocate at least 30 minutes to one hour to relax with the treatment mask in your hair.

We also recommend using the Treasured Locks Hydracap or a processing cap and warm towel:

  • to keep the mask on your hair and off your neck
  • keeping the mask warm, which enhances the conditioning properties of several of the ingredients.

How to Use It

  1. MIX WITH WATER: Follow the directions and mix the contents in a bowl with water, slowly adding the water to keep the correct consistency. The directions don’t indicate how much water to use, for reference I used 200ml (5 3/4 ounces) but could have used a bit more for a liquid consistency. It made a full coloring bowls worth of product to apply to the hair, plenty even if you have long and thick hair.
  2. APPLICATION:  Apply it to the hair with a hair coloring brush or wide tooth comb. I stopped periodically during application to massage it into the hair from scalp to ends, ensuring all of the hair was coated. I expected it to smell different due to a few of the ingredients having naturally “notable” aromas, but I just detected the Fuller’s Earth, rose, and maybe a bit of the Amla.  Neither the model or me could smell the Neem.
  3. WRAP HAIR: Wrap hair with the Hydracap and blow-dry it onto your head. If you don’t have a Hydracap, pin your hair up into a disposable processing cap or saran wrap. Leave in for 30 minutes to one hour. We did the full hour.
  4. Rinse out the product and wash hair as directed on the package

RESULTS

We allowed the models’ hair to dry naturally, no leave-in treatments or product and without the use of a dryer or other hot tools.

The curls were much more manageable, the hair did not feel weighed down, and the hair felt soft and strong, there was no crunchy feel. It required no product in the hair for the curls to remain looser, which usually it takes lots of product to get any style to stick. The straight hairstyle lasted until the model washed it out. Much to her delight, frizz was reduced, even when she allowed her hair to dry naturally.

CONCLUSION:

Treasured Locks SuperNatural Curl Tamer uses hair-healthy, all natural ingredients to provide an all-natural remedy to reduces frizz, as well as condition and hydrate all hair types. Good for the scalp and the hair, it provides a healthy, natural remedy to relax curls and frizz, leaving hair healthier and stronger in the process.

Head and Shoulders Green Apple Shampoo What to Know

December 12, 2016 · 2 Comments

Who doesn’t want beautiful, soft, bouncy, shiny hair? Count me in.

I’ve used Coconut Oil, Jojoba and Argan Oil on my hair, and numerous mid-level to expensive conditioners. Many leave a residue. Residue inadvertently sabotages the beautiful hair quest in two ways: it leads to lifeless, dull hair, and impairs the health and function of the scalp.

A clarifying shampoo removes product build-up from the length of hair. But what about the scalp? How do you know if product residue negatively impacts your hair goals and if so, what can be done about it?

RESIDUE FROM HAIR GROWTH AND HAIR CONDITIONING REMEDIES
Have you tried any of the Pinterest recommended hair conditioning and hair growth methods of massaging Argan Oil, Aloe Vera, Jojoba Oil or Coconut Oil directly onto the scalp and through the length of the hair? Intended in part as a hydrating scalp treatment, these oils nourish hair follicles and can promote hair growth and leave hair so super-soft. Coconut Oil makes my hair soft, pliable and better-behaved, even my brittle ends feel moisturized! But these topical methods can cause harm if the scalp cannot breathe under that layer of hair moisturizing goodness.

SCALP CARE: WHY THE SCALP MUST BE RESIDUE-FREE TO GROW HAIR
If the scalp is obstructed by oil, sweat, dandruff, environmental pollution, or layer of residue from Coconut Oil or any other product, the scalp can’t grow thick, healthy hair; it suffocates under the residue. If your scalp isn’t healthy, it isn’t receptive to stimulating new hair growth. A dry, flaky scalp blocks the absorption of any nutrients applied to the scalp.

Even worse, residue on the scalp can entrap a hormone product that accumulates near the hair follicles called Dihydrotestosterone or DHT. If DHT is not washed away, it can shrink or even kill hair follicles, meaning thinner brittle hair. Residue on the scalp such as dandruff, styling product, or treating oils can block even a clarifying shampoo from reaching the DHT and removing it. Shampoos with Zinc Pyrithione effectively cut through residue, sweat, oil, or dandruff and remove DHT from the scalp.

What is Zinc Pyrithione? It is antiseborrheic, which means it slows down the production of skin cells that create flakiness. A clarifying shampoo with Zinc Pyrithione is Head & Shoulders.

“YEAH, BUT I DON’T HAVE MUCH DANDRUFF,” YOU SAY
Even if you don’t have apparent dandruff, your scalp is still skin and needs to exfoliate regularly, just like your facial skin. This allows the scalp to be cleaner and healthier, like how your face feels after exfoliating with a facial cleansing brush. And also like after facial exfoliation, treatment products sink in evenly and absorb better when the scalp is flake-free. If you massage any conditioning or treating agent or oil into your scalp, it makes sense to use shampoo that can optimize the treatment surface of your scalp by removing any barrier – dry skin flakes or oil or product or residue – to your hair treatment. Scalp Care is about more than just a wash for oil and sweat removal; proper exfoliation of dry scalp skin is like a spa day for your scalp and follicles.

But ideally, in addition to being confident that your scalp is flake-free, a scalp cleansing shampoo should be gentle to the length of the hair. A concern I had about using a dandruff shampoo for scalp care and as my clarifying shampoo, is would it strip or dull my hair color, or dry or damage my hair that is already dry from coloring and processing?

PUTTING THE NEW HEAD & SHOULDERS SHAMPOO TO THE TEST

TEST: For a few days before coloring, I use a clarifying shampoo for to remove styling gunk and any conditioning treatment residue off my hair and scalp. I want my hair as clean as possible without stripping out the moisture from hair or scalp. This way the hair dye can adhere without making my scalp sensitive.

TEST METHOD: I washed half of my head with my regular salon-brand clarifying shampoo and the other half of my head with the new Head & Shoulders Green Apple Shampoo.

USE: Head & Shoulders Green Apple Shampoo lathered readily. It had a light, very pleasant apple scent. I massaged my hair with the lather, focusing on my scalp for about 4 1/2 minutes and then I left it on my hair for another minute before rinsing. The recommended length of time to lather is 3 1/2 to 6 minutes, depending on your hair length and thickness. It felt cool on the scalp.

I rinsed my hair. It rinsed away easily and cleanly, even though I have hard water. I didn’t feel any residue in my hair while wet, and it left no residue afterward.

RESULTS: My hair felt clean without being stripped of natural oils and the body of my hair was shiny but not dry or brittle. My hair is long, and the brittle ends did not feel “crunchy” after using the Head & Shoulders. They were soft and smooth. Daily use has not dried out my hair or damaged it. It feels strong.

An unexpected side benefit was that my scalp feels good. Most hair clarifiers leave my scalp feeling tight and dry. The side of my head that I used my regular clarifying shampoo feels and looked drier.

NO RESIDUE!!!
I was surprised this left no residue because (confession time!) I had stopped using Head & Shoulders years ago because it left a residue on my hair after washing. I am happy to report: this is not your Grandma’s Head & Shoulder’s because I had no residue left whatsoever. It also smells of green apple; there is not any medicinal smell.

INGREDIENTS
In addition to the pyrithione zinc technology, the ingredients include tea tree essence and peppermint oil, which leave the scalp feeling fresh, itch-free, and is invigorating for a daily shampoo to get your day going.

PRODUCT BENEFITS
Head & Shoulders Green Apple Shampoo fights dandruff with the great scent of green apple, leaving hair smelling great AND Head & Shoulders Green Apple Shampoo is a pH balanced, gentle shampoo for daily use on all hair types, including colored or chemically treated hair. It removes up to 94 percent of dandruff irritants!

CONCLUSION
If you are growing your hair out for an event such as a wedding or just want longer, stronger hair, what products go on your scalp is key. Many clarifying shampoos can treat product build up from styling products, but few address scalp care without causing undue drying or damage to the hair itself. Head & Shoulders Green Apple Shampoo made my hair look healthy and shiny and made my scalp flake-free, clean and hydrated. It did not dry out my hair, and it did not strip the vibrant color out of my freshly colored hair.

Hair: Pure Glam Volume Root Powder

December 9, 2016 · 2 Comments

We’re mad about Pure Glam Dry Shampoo for getting our hair clean and our scalps feeling great with its’ organic formulation, so you can imagine how excited we are to try Pure Glam Volume Root Powder to get major volume!

Pure Glam Volume Root Powder

Pure Glam Volume Root Powder

This hair product is a powder, much like magic Fairy Dust, and it performs as well as the highest quality Fairy Dust. The stuff you get straight from your Fairy Godmother that she made herself, not mass marketed Fairy Dust. We’re talking instant, major volume, and only where you want volume.

It is a small container at .21 oz, but it will last you a long time because you need so little of it to work. My first test was simple: sprinkle it along my middle part. I didn’t expect a lot of volume from the middle. It sprinkled from the container slowly and gently, so it was easy to control where it landed. This is also a nice feature because it negates clumps of product landing in one spot, which is a problem I have had with other volume powders.

It seemed to disappear into my dark hair immediately, unlike powders that stay a chalky, dusty white. I started lightly massaging the area, and the powder felt almost like a styling paste consistency without the gunky feeling. It quickly “dried down” and didn’t feel like I had product in at all.

The result? It is like I had the hair of my teens, in 20 seconds flat (no pun intended. My hair was the opposite of flat.) The Root Powder gave me gorgeous volume with incredible loft. And it MOVED! Usually, it takes a lot of stiff product to get this much volume, which isn’t a good look. My hair kept its’ natural swing, which is fantastic.

As with all Pure Glam products, Volume Root Powder contains certified organic ingredients, is cruelty-free, and is gluten-free!

How does Volume Root Powder accomplish all of this without having harsh chemicals in it? With a potent blend of ingredients, including silica silylate, kaolin clay, organic potato starch, organic tapioca starch, organic corn starch, and organic aloe barbedensis leaf juice, you can attain incredible volume in seconds, like you spent hours in a top stylist’s chair!

So why haven’t you heard of this amazing product yet? It’s brand new! It’s just been launched for the holiday season, so get yours now in time for upcoming parties! It is absolutely fantastic for getting the proper volume needed for an updo, especially a French Twist. We love this stuff!

We’re going to do some style tutorials on Youtube with this product soon, so be sure to watch for that. In the meantime, you’ll be able to find me standing in front of my vanity mirror tossing my head around, admiring the incredible volume in my hair…

Beauty: Island’s Miracle Organic Coconut Oil

November 26, 2016 · 1 Comment

Coconut Oil is a multi-purpose, go-to remedy for many beauty, health, cooking and household uses. Finding a quality grade coconut oil is a worthwhile investment. A brand we like is Island’s Miracle Organic Coconut Oil because 1) it is a food grade, cold-pressed, extra virgin oil 2) it has an appealing flavor and scent 3) it absorbs into the skin with a non-greasy finish, and 4) it makes our hair soft and shiny without dull residue.

Island's Miracle Organic Coconut Oil

Island’s Miracle Organic Coconut Oil

COCONUT OIL USES
Coconut Oil is a fabulous hair and skin conditioner. It removes makeup. It locks moisture into skin after a shower. Coconut Oil can clean makeup brushes and reduce the appearance of stretch marks. There are also numerous health benefits to consuming Coconut Oil.

FINDING A QUALITY COCONUT OIL
For all that Coconut Oil does, it makes sense to use only a quality Coconut Oil for topical application and cooking use. Not every Coconut Oil brand is created equal. There is a wide variety of price points for Coconut Oil. Some brands are not as suitable for eating, and even some of the food grade Coconut Oils are not very tasty or lack an appetizing aroma.

While most Coconut Oil brands will provide some benefits (serving as a shaving cream or moisturizing cuticles), few Coconut Oils are truly food quality. Fewer have USDA Certification. Coconut Oil must be pure, fresh, free of additives, and, of course, be tasty to be used in cooking and baking.

ABOUT ISLAND’S MIRACLE ORGANIC COCONUT OIL
Island’s Miracle Organic Coconut Oil is a USDA Certified Organic 100% raw, cold-pressed (first press only), extra virgin coconut oil that has a wonderful flavor and scent. Made from pesticide and insecticide free coconuts, with no additives such as salt, sugar, yeast, gluten, eggs, shellfish or preservatives.

PACKAGING
Island’s Miracle uses PBA-Free Plastic packaging to prevent toxins from getting into their pure coconut oil. The container comes sealed, as you can see in the video below. I had to loosen it before I did the video, because it came quite tightly sealed!

Island's Miracle Organic Coconut Oil

Island’s Miracle Organic Coconut Oil

TASTE
I was impressed by the light, natural smell of coconut and the cold pressed texture resulting in a densely packed, emollient oil.

It is a quality food grade, making it suitable for use in cooking, baking and included in energy drinks, smoothies, and in coffee. There is no strange aftertaste to the Island’s Miracle Coconut Oil. It is fresh, light and natural tasting.

USING ISLAND’S MIRACLE ORGANIC COCONUT OIL ON MY HAIR & SKIN

I’ve used several brands of Coconut Oil on my hair and skin, and do like the results. What I don’t like is how greasy it can be on the skin, and how the residue can make hair dull. I didn’t have that experience with this Coconut Oil. It’s not greasy and absorbed into the skin well. It is suitable for use on the skin (even on the face and around the delicate eye area) and hair, as well as used as a baby skin ointment. I also used it on the ends of my hair; it left it a soft sheen and my hair felt thicker and softer. There was no dulling film after I shampooed it out.

Island's Miracle Organic Coconut Oil

Island’s Miracle Organic Coconut Oil

TEST: HOW TO INCORPORATE ISLAND’S MIRACLE ORGANIC COCONUT OIL INTO MY DIET FOR EASY & HEALTHIER EATING HABITS

I haven’t found the taste of a Coconut Oil very appealing in other brands I tried, but since Island’s Miracle Oil is pure, cold pressed and virgin oil, it has so many health benefits it’s worth trying. I was pleased to find it to be a pleasant taste with no aftertaste or strange texture.

Since Island’s Miracle Coconut Oil is tasty and smells delicious, it is easier to make some healthy dietary changes, such as opting for using the healthier Coconut Oil over less healthy fats like butter, cream or cooking sprays.

I tested a few Coconut Oil substitute ideas using the Island’s Miracles Coconut Oil. These little calorie-saving tricks add up and still give me more energy without sacrificing taste.

1. One substitute I tried was spreading Coconut Oil on my toast instead of butter. This gave me more energy before a workout or long day. The taste was light and sweet, and Coconut Oil still melted into a warm consistency on my toast like butter does, and with the Coconut Oil, my toast was not dry or bland, so I didn’t miss the butter much, and it is an easy switch while watching calories.

2. Another substitute is stirring the Coconut Oil into my coffee instead of milk or creamer. If hot coffee and Island’s Miracle Organic Coconut Oil are mixed in the blender, it makes a creamy cappuccino kind of texture. Coconut Oil is used in Bulletproof coffee recipes, which gives an energy boost and helps curbs the munchies, making it easier to stick to a diet. Coconut Oil in a smoothie makes for a surprisingly good texture, adds some sweetness and gives energy because of Coconut Oils’ fast acting MCFA fats.

3. A fun way we found to incorporate the Island’s Coconut Oil as a healthy fat substitute is for making popcorn! It smells just like movie theater popcorn! To make Popcorn with Coconut Oil, we melted a few tablespoons of Island’s Miracle Coconut Oil in a pot on the stove. Then we popped the kernels the old fashioned way with a tin foil “lid.” Once popped, drizzle the popped kernels lightly with some more melted Coconut Oil add toppings to taste such as sea salt, spices, or cinnamon. Yum! Much tastier than microwave popcorn and without the chemicals.

OTHER COCONUT OIL USES IN COOKING:

1. High-heat cooking, such as Sauteing and Frying, can be done with Coconut Oil because of its high smoke point from its’ heat-stable, healthy saturated fats.
2. A teaspoon of Coconut Oil can substitute for a non-stick cooking spray.
3. To bake with Coconut Oil, exchange the same amount of coconut oil as the butter or vegetable oil that is called for in the recipe.

CONCLUSION: A quality Coconut Oil is a must for every household, it serves so many purposes! A worthwhile investment is a USDA Certified Organic, cold pressed, virgin oil like the Island’s Miracles Organic Coconut Oil, a tasty oil suitable for cooking, baking and a host of beauty purposes. An excellent price for a pure, additive-free Coconut Oil!
