HIGH-PERFORMANCE VEGAN HAIRCARE DRIVEN BY SCIENCE

Noughty To The Rescue Intensive Moisture Treatment

We took a good look at what exactly makes this hair fixing formulation work. It is packed with ingredients that restore lifeless hair while helping hair retain precious moisture. It’s clever formulation uses oils that tend to make my hair soft but leave a residue.

In this formulation, the oils wash away cleanly and my coarse, curly hair is shiny, hydrated, and soft.

Let’s take a look at this Noughty formulation:

Key Ingredients

Sweet Almond Oil fixes dry, brittle hair

Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Extract

Better known as sweet almonds. Sweet Almond Oil is hair reparative and softening.

It has amino acids and proteins to strengthen the hair strand and smooth the appearance of the hair cuticle. Very helpful in restoring the appearance of health on damaged hair.

Sweet Almond Oil is a light oil, ideal for very stressed or very fine texture hair. almond oil contains proteins and vitamins A, B, D, and E. It adds shine to fine, lackluster, and dull hair.

Shea butter definition at StyleChicks.com Defining Beauty Glossary

Shea Butter

Butyros-permum Parkii

Butyros-permum Parkii is Shea Butter.

Derived from the Shea nut, this emollient is packed with vitamins and softens the hair.

The direct application of Shea Butter can leave hair dull and greasy. But within a formulation, it washes away clean and leaves hair smooth.

Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil’s moisturizing properties are well-known. It penetrates deeper than other oils.

Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil

Rich in vitamins and fatty acids, it lends a softness to roughed-up hair.

Coconut Oil can be especially helpful to coarse and curly hair because coconut oil helps hair retain both protein and moisture. It also leaves hair with a nice slip.

Direct Coconut Oil application is messy and difficult to wash clean. In this formulation there is all the coconut benefit but it rinses out clean!

Limnanthes Alba

Meadowfoam

Limnanthes Alba is Meadowfoam Seed Oil derived from Meadowfoam flowers.

Meadowfoam Seed Oil is high in fatty acids. It is highly emollient and can lock moisture into the hair.

Limnanthes Alba is particularly useful on frizzy hair and dry, colored hair to help it stay hydrated.

Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil

Argan Oil is popular in hair care.

Argan

Argan Oil keeps hair hydrated while also smoothing hair.

It promotes elasticity which reduces hair breakage. If you hair hair breakage or want to grow longer hair, Argan Oil is quite helpful.

Argan oil massaged into the scalp aids in stimulating hair growth. It softens hair length but its’ best use is the repair of damaged follicles.

Sunflower

Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Extract

Sunflower Seed Extract is hydrating, nourishing, and a supporting carrier base oil. Rich in Vitamin E, it retains moisture in the hair. Frizzy hair is naturally more dry and brittle. Sunflower oil retains moisture in brittle hair, thereby reducing hair breakage.

Avena Strigosa Seed Extract

Black oat extract is rich in amino acids. It helps even brittle, dry hair retain moisture. It also imparts a healthy-looking natural gloss.

Behentrimonium Chloride

This one sounds like a chemical, but it is a conditioning agent obtained from the oil of field mustard seeds (oilseed turnip).

This plant-based agent detangles the hair and reduces static while softening and strengthening the hair. [1] It penetrates the hair shaft so it is a potent conditioner.

Lecithin

Lecithin is a fat found in plants like soybeans. It enhances the hair’s natural barrier, smoothing each shaft to renew the outer layer of the hair. Damaged hair has a ragged cuticle, making hair look dull.

Noughty To The Rescue

Noughty To The Rescue

texture and Consistency

Noughty To The Rescue is a rich, creamy formulation. It is quite thick but easily melts between my palms and soaks into the hair. Even on long hair, a few tablespoons is more than enough to coat thick, curly hair.

Thick formulation for serious rescue potential

The scent is heady notes of argan with almond scent.

It is a ten-ounce tub.

Noughty To The Rescue Masque is a thick, rich, creamy formulation

Osmotics Nutrilash Brow Lash Enhancer What You Need to Know

December 1, 2020 · Leave a Comment

Review: Osmotics Nutrilash Brow + Lash Enhancer

Who wouldn’t want to up their eyelash game? Lash growth and lengthening products abound. Many of them cause some eye irritation and redness. For eyelash growth without the irritation, we recently discovered Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer, ideal for growing longer, thicker eyelashes and filling in bare spots on eyebrows.

Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer

Lash Growth Options

If you have sworn off lash growth products due to some brands leaving your eyes feeling dry, irritated, red and grainy, you may be reluctant to try another lash product. We tried several over time, with various degrees of success. Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer offers non-irritating lash enhancement.

Latisse for lash growth

One lash lengthening product you’re likely familiar with is Latisse.

Latisse does grow longer lashes. But the active ingredient, bimatoprost, is a known eye irritant.

The other proven ingredient that causes two known active ingredients that cause lash growth in various lash products is both known to irritate the eyes.

While you are not supposed to actually get the liquid in your eye, just on your lashes, it is very difficult not to accidentally get some in the eye.

ABOUT Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer

Osmotics Nutrilash takes a different approach to lash growth. It focuses on lash line density and addressing sparse areas.

Instead of thin, spindly, longer lashes, Nutrilash promotes stronger and fuller lashes, notably, filling in sparse spots.

I find this creates a lusher, fuller lashline and more defined eye. Length can always be added with mascara, but lashline fullness is harder to fake.

Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer FEATURES

  • This product is far less irritating to the eye because, like all Osmotics products, it only contains the ingredients clinically proven to get the job done, no fillers, no extras. This means less possible irritation due to chemical interaction and reaction to fillers, dyes, etc.
  • It uses the same technology to grow hair as the Osmotics Follicle Nutrient System. It is tested as safe for eyes.
What is unique about Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer

What is unique about Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer

  • It features 28 disposable applicator brushes and a clean dispensing weekly four tube system, so there is no product contamination from “double dipping” onto your eye and into the product.
Four tubes and 28 disposable brushes for easy, sanitary use and direct lash application

Four tubes and 28 disposable brushes for easy, sanitary use and direct lash application

  • I particularly like filling out my brow tail to the proper length and applying it to the top arch of my brows to encourage brow hair growth for a youthful, fuller, lifted brow.
  • Lash extensions can take their toll on fragile lashes. If your lashes look lackluster after removing lash extensions, Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer can get them healthy and back in shape.
  • Tip: Got one brow or eye that droops more than the other? Most people do. Add just an extra dot at the top of the arch of your drooping brow to encourage hair growth in an area that will visually raise your brow

VERDICT: I like the fuller lashline look I get from Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer, as well as the brow enhancement, my brows look fuller and more natural, especially since I can fill out the tails of the brows and sparse spots. It does require a bit more time than Latisse does to grow lashes, about 4-6 weeks. But I prefer the thick, lush, healthy look of the Osmotics grown lashes to the thinner and spindly look of the Latisse lashes.

I have not experienced any eye irritation or redness with daily use. One application is enough for lashes and touching up the sparse spots on my brows.

For deep conditioning, we love making concoctions of treating oils and hydrating creams. More effective than DIY hair recipes, this Way of Nature set contains all our haircare ingredient favorites plus some hair superfood ingredients we never tried before!

  • Bonus gift honey lip treatment
Both the masque and treatment oil contain amazing superfood natural ingredients like pomegranate

Both the masque and treatment oil contain amazing superfood natural ingredients like pomegranate

The Ingredients

Let’s take a look at the impressive ingredient profiles of both products included in this set. First the Nourishing Hair Mask:

The Nourishing Hair Mask active ingredients

Avocado Oil Ingredient featured on StyleChicks.com

Avocado Oil

Avocado Oil is 72% monounsaturated fatty acids, higher than Coconut or Grapeseed oils. Avocado Oil mixes with water better than other oils.

  • Avocado oil readily penetrates into the hair strand and even the hair cortex.
  • Avocado Oil doesn’t sit on the scalp like Coconut oil. Avocado oil decreases dryness and improves texture on hair.

Rich in Omegas 3 and 6, Vitamins C, D, and E, Avocado Oil makes hair hydrated and lush.[1]

Date oil is rich in fatty acids

Phoenix Dactylifera Fruit Extract

Better known as Date oil. Date oil has an antioxidant profile similar to Olive Oil.

  • It also has the four fatty acids oleic, linoleic, lauric and palmitic acid. These fatty acids reduce moisture loss in the hair and keep the hair cuticle sealed.
  • It is rich in vitamins including Vitamin B2, also known as Riboflavin. Riboflavin promotes hair elasticity and helps hair build protein.

Date Oil is especially good at reviving dull, dry, and brittle hair.

Panthenol

Panthenol is Vitamin B5.

Panthenol is moisture-binding and soothing, It instantly makes hair look healthier by boosting shine and plumping the hair shaft.

Argan

Argan

Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil

Argan Nut Oil deeply hydrates and softens dry hair. Argan is an anti-oxidant, fatty acid hair superfood.

It also promotes elasticity. Improved elasticity gives hair strength and bouncy movement. It also reduces hair breakage.

Argan oil massaged into the scalp aids in stimulating hair growth.

Hydrolyzed Keratin

Hair is mostly Keratin, it is the structural protein of hair. Hydrolyzed keratin is keratin broken down into small enough pieces to absorb into the hair.

Hydrolyzed Keratin can fill the microscopic gaps in the cuticle, cortex, and medulla of the hair. This gives hair temporary strength. It also makes hair reflect light and look shiny.

Consistent Hydrolyzed keratin use helps high porosity hair resist breakage and grow longer.

Jojoba Seed Oil

Jojoba Seed Oil

Simmondsia Chinensis Seed oil

Jojoba oil is an emollient, made of 98% monounsaturated fats.

  • Jojoba gives elasticity and softness to hair.
  • Jojoba is a carrier oil, increasing the efficacy of other active ingredients. As a carrier oil, it enhances the ingredients it is paired with instead of creating a barrier.
  • Jojoba seed oil hydrates and nourishes while cleansing the scalp of impurities.
  • It removes excess sebum, dandruff, and flakes blocking follicles.
  • It moisturizes dry hair.

Propolis is a bee product

Propolis Extract

Propolis Extract is a bee bi-product. It is sometimes called bee glue.

  • It is cuticle smoothing, softening, and hydrating.
  • It also causes temporary hair plumping action.
  • Rich in vitamins, it feeds the hair.
  • Propolis Extract contains the amino acid Cysteine which strengthens the hair strand.

Glycerin

Glycerin is a natural humectant that helps hair to retain moisture. This is particularly important for thirsty coarse and curly hair. These hair types have a wider diameter, which means more surface to lose moisture and feel dry.

Tocopheryl Acetate

Tocopheryl Acetate is Vitamin E. E makes damaged skin soft and pliable again.

Now let’s take a look at the Oil Treatment

The Oil  Treatment contains powerful natural ingredients to restore hair health.

The Way of Nature Elara Keratin Hair Mask Experience

Nourishing Hair Mask

The Mask

Texture

It is a very thick cream. Thicker and richer than a curd or custard consistency. Not at all greasy or slimy.

Warm and rub it between your hands first to apply it to wet hair. About a tablespoon was enough for my almost bra strap length hair. It spreads well and has a nice slick.

The masque is thick, creamy, and rich. A little goes a long way

Use in the shower and let it sink in for 5-7 minutes. It also works wonderfully steamed in with my facial steamer. Rinse with cool water to seal the cuticle. It rinses away clean without a residue.

It comes with a sturdy inner seal to keep the mask fresh.

It comes with a sturdy inner seal to keep the mask fresh.

scent

There is a pleasant aromatic scent. It lingers a bit even after rinsing.

result

Hair feels smoother, thicker, and much stronger. It looks so healthy and shiny!

The Way of Nature Elara Keratin Treatment Oil Experience

The Treatment Oil

I like to shake it well and warm a few drops between my hands and smooth it over my hair. It is filled with hair growing nutrients and makes for a marvelous restorative scalp massage!

The bottle has a sealed inverted dropper top to reduce waste, only dispense what you need.

It leaves my coarse hair looking smoother and shiny.

ROIL Healthy Hair Masque why we love it

October 1, 2020 · Leave a Comment

Review: ROIL Healthy Hair Masque
We are big fans of the Luxury Brand ROIL We have raved about the work of ROIL founder, hair guru Amanda George, for years. Meanwhile, my coarse hair has seen some things. Bad things. It needs some serious hair pampering. Fortunately, Amanda George is still busy working hair miracles. We tried the ROIL line of hair products. Today we review ROIL Healthy Hair Masque.
ROIL Healthy Hair Masque

ROIL Healthy Hair Masque

ROIL Healthy Hair MASQUE Overview

We love this masque because it makes damaged hair look good, and healthy hair look fabulous.

ROIL Healthy Hair Masque made Courtney’s silky virgin hair soft, lush and bouncy.

Courtney’s hair is in excellent, healthy condition.

But my coarse, colored hair needs to go to rehab.

ROIL Healthy Hair Masque made my processed hair smooth and soft.

It gave my hair bounce and movement.

And it does it without leaving a dull residue coating like many coarse hair treatments tend to do.

This hair masque makes hair seem younger. It is like turning back the clock on all the crazy stuff I’ve have done to my hair:

  • coloring
  • highlights
  • color correction
  • hot tools
  • alcohol-laden styling products

It is like all those things never happened. A hair do-over if you will.

ROIL Healthy Hair Masque contains Amla fruit oil, which is nutrient-rich and wonderful for hair
Amla on StyleChicks

Amla or Gooseberry comes from these small fruits. It is considered a superfood with many beauty benefits

The ROIL HAIR MASQUE EXPERIENCE

Use

What is the scent of ROIL Healthy Hair Masque?

The scent is a delicate citrus scent.

What is the texture of ROIL Healthy Hair Masque?

The Consistency is like a thick custard texture, but spreads smoothly and absorbs quickly.

An elegant decadence to it makes you want to use it while soaking in a warm bath.

It is very easy to wash out.

Delicate orange scent

A delightful yet delicate orange scent a delicate blend of orange and grapefruit notes.

Lifeless hair looks and feels so much better after leaving the ROIL masque in the hair for even a minute or two.

But it really sings when used for 30 minutes to a few hours.

THE RESULTS

  • My hair seemed fuller and had more movement even while still wet.
  • Shine even on unruly parts. It is a healthy shine, not shellac, silicone fake-looking shine.
  • Improved texture of dry, unruly gray hairs and damaged sections.

What makes this magic happen?

Check out what is in ROIL Healthy Hair Masque

ROIL Healthy Hair Masque Ingredient Profile

Amla fruit

Amla Oil

Amla Oil comes from the Amla fruit, which is known as the wonder fruit.

High in Vitamin C, it imparts strength and thickness to hair.

What are Amla hair benefits?

  • It is nutrient-dense and full of powerful antioxidants.
  • It is thought that Amla can penetrate into the root and hair shaft, encouraging hair growth and rejuvenation.
  • Amla makes hair beautiful, soft, and shiny.
  • Amla has another impressive ability: to reverse damage from hair coloring. This is because Gallic acid, a powerful phenolic compound found in amla which repairs chemical and environmental damage.[1]

A few hair products use Amla. But notice their ingredients lists, it is often just a sprinkling of Amla. This is not the percentage necessary for a true hair rehab. ROIL uses a generous amount of Amla in this formulation for meaningful hair rehab.

ROIL does Amla masques one better by also adding a hair-loving combination of ingredients.

Grapeseed Oil

Grapeseed Oil

Grape Seed Oil is a rich but lightweight oil that leaves hair hydrated, lively and perfectly nourished.

It is excellent for dry and brittle hair, including unruly grays.

Shea Butter

Shea Butter has rich, naturally nurturing fatty acids and vitamins. It gives a uniquely soft feel. It also makes hair healthier.

ROIL Healthy Hair Masque Is PART OF A HEALTHY HAIR REHAB PLAN

We’ve got several hair rescue products on our Holy Grail list. These include:

  • Olaplex
  • the Oribe Gold Lust range
  • Philip Kingsley Elasticizer.

Now we add ROIL Healthy Hair Masque to that list.

Any bond-building treatment, like Olaplex, requires a hydrating conditioning treatment after use. After Olaplex or Philip Kingsley Elasticizer, my hair looks best when followed with a ROIL Healthy Hair Masque treatment.

No matter how damaged or dry my hair seems, the ROIL Healthy Hair Masque always gives a good hair day.

ROIL luxury hair and body care products

ROIL luxury hair and body care products

THE VERDICT

A luxe treatment for all hair types. It is excellent on coarse hair.

  • The consistency feels wonderful. It is like a whipped custard.
  • It rinses out quickly without residue.
  • And it smells lovely.

After one use, we immediately bought two more ROIL Healthy Hair Masques because it brings hair back to life and leaves it SO SO shiny.

And it has been a repeat purchase ever since. Highly recommended.
