Why Civant Meladerm Pigment Correction is Special

I am a sunscreen devotee but still managed to get discoloration on my cheekbones. This discoloration is dark, like contour, right on the part of the upper cheek where the highlighter should go.

And I have tried all kinds of creams and serums and even with concealer, this discoloration is still there.

So I was pretty excited to try a Hydroquinone-free way to deal address dark spots, acne and scars. It combines ingredients proven to lighten discoloration with exfoliation ingredients to tackle all kinds of unwanted pigment issues.

Does Civant Meladerm Pigment Correction Really Work?

Yes, in our experience Meladerm can treat age related discoloration (age spots), dark spots or hyperpigmentation from sun damage, acne scars and dark marks.

Meladerm also targets:

  • Uneven Skin Tone
  • Melasma
  • Elbows & Knees
  • Underarms
  • Discolorations
  • Birthmarks
  • Old Scars

How to Use Mad Hippie 2 Minute Polishing Mask

Review + Guide How to Use Mad Hippie 2 Minute Polishing Mask

You know those skincare serums we faithfully apply? They can’t work their magic if our skin isn’t exfoliated. But exfoliation often leaves skin too dry and irritated to apply your serums. Stop this vicious cycle by using an exfoliating product that gently removes dead skin cells while leaving skin smooth and hydrated. Meet Mad Hippie 2 Minute Polishing Mask, a cocktail of renowned ancient beauty remedies used by Japanese women to enhance skin naturally and gently.
Mad Hippie 2 Minute Polishing Mask polishes instead of scrubs the skin

Mad Hippie 2 Minute Polishing Mask polishes instead of scrubs the skin

Mad Hippie 2 Minute Polishing Mask contains natural exfoliators that refine skin, sloughing off the dry, sluggish dull skin and leaving skin SO smooth and hydrated.

Mad Hippie 2-Minute Polishing Mask

Mad Hippie 2 Minute Polishing Mask

WHY EXFOLIATION IS NECESSARY

Exfoliation smooths the appearance of the skin and is helpful in reducing acne formation as it removes dead skin cells that can harbor bacteria in clogged pores.

Exfoliation also enables actives to penetrate the skin to work optimally.

Mad Hippie 2-Minute Polishing Mask comes in a powder that is mixed with water

Mad Hippie 2 Minute Polishing Mask comes in a powder that is mixed with water

But as we age, our skin becomes less able to tolerate rubbing and scrubbing. Rubbing and scrubbing aren’t great at any age but is especially problematic after age thirty. Mad Hippie addresses this with a non-abrasive form of exfoliation: skin polishing.

Mad Hippie contains natural, effective ingredients to exfoliate skin without damaging it

Mad Hippie 2 Minute Polishing mask Benefits

Mad Hippie 2 Minute Polishing Mask is filled with beauty secrets – ingredients used in Japan for centuries for beautiful glowing skin.

Mad Hippie 2 Minute Mask contains several ingredients renowned for pampering skin

Mad Hippie 2 Minute Mask contains several ingredients renowned for pampering skin

Let’s take a look at the ingredients behind this innovative exfoliation:

Mad Hippie 2 Minute Polishing Mask Ingredients

rice bran

Rice Bran

Organic Rice Bran

Also known as Oryza Sativa. Rice Bran has been used in Japan for centuries.  It is rich in ceramides and Vitamins A B, and Tocotrienols, the “super” vitamin E.   It promotes hydration, reduces pigmentation, and diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Rice Bran comes from the outer husk of rice grains.  These hydrate skin and help maintain elasticity.  It naturally keeps skin hydrated and glowing.

Rice Bran also contains Gamma Oryzanol, a Ferulic Acid ester that is an anti-aging antioxidant that protects the skin from free radical damage.[1]

Rich in antioxidants, such as beta-carotene, CoQ10, and lycopene.

Mad Hippie 2-Minute Polishing Mask uses Adzuki Seeds

Phaseolus Angularis, Adzuki Seeds

Adzuki Seed Powder

Adzuki Seed Powder, AKA Phaseolus Angularis, is another Japanese beauty secra et.

The Adzuki Seed is a bean. When ground, it makes a powder. These ground beans are a natural exfoliant. They are not sharp or jagged like exfoliating nutshells seen in some products, but they sure get the job done.

Kaolin

Kaolin is White Clay. White clay is a mild exfoliant that unclogs pores.

Suitable for all skin types, it is ideal for mature skin. It clarifies and refines skin while reducing pore size.

Illite

Illite is Green Clay. It soaks up excess oils, purifies, and balances the pH of the skin.

Illite can be drying, so it is ideal in a formulation with soothing hydrators like this one.

Mad Hippie 2-Minute Polishing Mask contains matcha powder

Matcha powder

Organic Matcha Green Tea

Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract is better known as matcha green tea.

Matcha contains concentrated green tea benefits including the reduction of inflammation or irritation.

Green tea has polyphenols. Polyphenols soothe skin and provide antioxidants. Polyphenols may improve sun-damaged skin. [2]

Matcha is loaded with Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which promotes skin health and appearance. It protects against environmental damage and neutralizes free radicals that prematurely age skin. Research shows EGCG reactivates dying skin cells. This shows promise for repairing sun damage and scar healing. [3]

Matcha also contains chlorophyll, a natural anti-bacterial that removes excess oil.

Organic Oat Flower

Oat Flower

Organic Oat Flower

The oat floret. Oat flower is a skin-soothing hydrator.

It pairs well in this formulation to offset the potential drying effect of the clays.

Steam Distilled Citrus Aurantium Dulcis

Better known as Sweet Orange Peel Oil.

 Sweet Orange Peel Oil

Sweet Orange Peel Oil

Orange Peel has double the Vitamin C of the fleshly fruit.

The bacteria-fighting and inflammation reduction properties reduce acne without excess skin drying.

It fights free radicals, removes blackheads, and reduces wrinkles. It is an ideal ingredient for face masks and scrubs.

The Mad Hippie 2 Minute Polishing Mask Experience

The texture is different from other exfoliants. I expected the grains would be rough. But it is not.

The Adzuki Seed Powder isnt a hard grain. But it can remove dead skin. It is more of an easy buff than gritty scrub.  The clays make a creamy base. It is a very gentle dead skin removal that leaves skin clean but not irritated. It lives up to the name of a “polish”. The skin is not scrubbed off, it is refined and smoothed.

Mad Hippie 2 Minute Polishing Mask

Mad Hippie 2 Minute Polishing Mask

Massage into the skin with small, gentle circles for two minutes. There is no need to rub.

Mix the powder with water for quick yet gentle exfoliation

Mad Hippie 2 Minute Polishing Mask close up

Mad Hippie 2 Minute Polishing Mask close up

I particularly like how it loosens up stubborn blackheads in my t-zone.

It took some trial and error to get my water to powder ratio just right. It was easiest to mix in a small bowl to make a wet paste.

Stay tuned for upcoming coverage of these Mad Hippie goodies!

Combine a teaspoon of 2 Minute Polishing mask with Hydrating Nutrient Mist

Best TIP: Mix a teaspoon of Mad Hippie’s Polishing mask with Mad Hippie Hydrating Nutrient Mist (center) for a hydrating and smoothing treat.

Retinol Alternative: Morganna’s Alchemy 24K Glow Super Cream

Retinol calls to me like a skincare siren. This gold standard skincare ingredient quells acne, age spots, and wrinkles. It leaves skin dewy, refined, refreshed, and younger.

But before the dewy, youthy, fabulous skin phase, there’s the dreaded irritated skin phase. And for the sensitive-skinned amongst us, that phase is torture.

Many can’t tolerate even buffered Retinols. What options are there for sensitive skins seeking serums?

Meet Bakuchiol

Bakuchiol is a non-irritating, plant-based retinol alternative. It behaves like Retinol without the skin irritation.

An excellent implementation of Bakuchiol comes in Morganna’s Alchemy 24k Glow Super Cream (now known as Morganna’s Alchemy 24 Carrot Glow Encapsulated Astaxanthin + Bakuchiol Moisturizer).

Check out our Morganna’s Alchemy 24k Glow experience.

Morganna’s Alchemy 24K Glow Super Cream has skin nourishing, hydrating, collagen-promoting yet gentle ingredients.

But every product makes ingredient claims saying that it is wonderful. What’s the proof?

Bakuchiol Clinical Research

The skincare showdown: Bakuchiol vs Retinol

Bakuchiol Benefits

Bakuchiol is a plant-based phenol that decreases wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. Studies show that gentle, natural bakuchiol holds its’ own against Retinol.

“Our study demonstrates that bakuchiol is comparable with retinol in its ability to improve photoaging and is better tolerated than retinol.” [1]

Bakuchiol Study 1

One randomized, double-blind, 12-week clinical study with 44 volunteers compared retinol and bakuchiol. There was no statistical difference between how each decreased wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. But the retinol users reported facial skin scaling and stinging. [2]

Bakuchiol Study 2

A second study confirmed the Retinol-like functionality of bakuchiol. It also documented the stimulation of collagen within the skin. Bakuchiol was used twice a day for 12 weeks.

The result was a significant improvement in wrinkles, pigmentation, elasticity, and firmness without the retinol associated side effects. [3]

Bakuchiol inhibits melanin production on age spots and acne scars better than arbutin [4]. Bakuchiol also helps with acne.[5]

What makes Bakuchiol even better?
Pairing it with Astaxanthin.

Astaxanthin Benefits

Astaxanthin is an exceptional anti-oxidant.

Many topicals use a chemically synthesized Astaxanthin. But Morganna’s Alchemy 24K Glow Super Cream uses natural Astaxanthin.  Natural Astaxanthin is derived from Haematococcus Pluvalis Extract, a freshwater species of algae. [6]

  • Anti-oxidants are important because oxidative stress causes skin aging.
  • Natural aging and photoaging (UV light) produce reactive oxygen species (ROS). ROS ages skin by causing an inflammatory response. [7] This degrades skin collagen and elastin.
  • Astaxanthin is especially effective at preventing ROS formations in the skin. [8]
  • Astaxanthin protects skin from the free radical damage that accelerates skin aging. It counteracts UV damage and improves elasticity via improved skin function. It promotes collagen production. [9]
  • Astaxanthin suppresses hyperpigmentation and photoaging. It also reduces wrinkle formation in several clinical studies [10].
Astaxanthin is a powerful antioxidant, more potent and stable than Vitamins C or E.

Morganna’s Alchemy 24K Glow Super Cream also contains a host of natural but highly effective ingredients to counteract skin aging and support skin hydration.

Let’s take a closer look at the other ingredients in the Morganna’s Alchemy 24k Glow formulation:

Morganna’s Alchemy 24K Glow Ingredients

Olives are a natural Squalane source

Olives are a natural Squalane source

Squalane

Squalane comes from olives oil, rice, or sugar cane.

Rich in fatty acids, it contains all the restorative goodness of olive oil without the greasiness. Squalane mimics the skin’s natural sebum and makes the skin barrier smooth and soft.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is from palm kernel or coconut oil. It is a mix of fatty acids attached to glycerin.

It is a natural skin replenishing emollient. It creates a barrier on the skin’s surface to reduce moisture loss. [11]

Sodium Hyaluronate

Sodium Hyaluronate is a non-synthesized form of Hyaluronic Acid.

  • It is a humectant that offers stronger moisture retention properties than regular HA.
  • It is found naturally and ample supply in young skin, but depletes with age.
  • Sodium Hyaluronate has a lower molecular size than to other Hyaluronic Acids. This is good because it can absorb deeper into the skin and bring other actives along with it.

Glycerin

Glycerin is a natural vegetable-derived, non-toxic humectant that helps the skin to retain moisture. Glycerin fills in gaps in dryer skin which makes skin look better and keeps the outer layer of the skin intact.

Tocopherol

Tocopherol is a natural Vitamin E is from plant seeds.

  • It is a skin-softening antioxidant that makes damaged skin (scars, sun-damaged) pliable.
  • Once the skin is pliable, other treating ingredients can work their magic.

Hydrolyzed Collagen

Collagen is the scaffolding of skin. We lose it as we age. Less collagen means more sagging.

Hydrolyzed Collagen is broken down into smaller pieces to penetrate the skin.

Hydrolyzed Royal Jelly Protein

Royal Jelly is the gelatinous substance bees make to feed the queen bee.

Royal Jelly benefits are it is:

  • an anti-inflammatory anti-oxidant filled with skin-friendly nutrients.
  • smooths fine lines and wrinkles and enables skin repair. [12]
  • able to promote collagen production. [13]

My Morganna’s Alchemy 24K Glow Super Cream Experience

24K Glow Super Cream is a sleek, sealed product with an enclosed pump top dispenser.

The cream itself is an apricot shade, but it doesn’t impart any actual tint to the skin. It is a creamy gel consistency.

The texture is not at all gritty like some Retinol prescription gels.

It absorbs and spreads easily without tugging the skin. It dries down within a minute. I give an extra minute before sunscreen application but it is not tacky or gummy.

Morganna’s Alchemy 24k Glow Is A light gel-like cream with a non-tacky finish

A light gel-like cream with a non-tacky finish

There is a pleasant almost sweet spicy scent that dissipates on the dry down.

The skin has a bit of a glow afterward but not greasy looking. My skin feels smooth and appears hydrated with or without additional moisturizer application.

Morganna’s Alchemy 24K Glow RESULTS

I have used it twice a day for 11 days. And so far no dreadful skin peeling days that I can’t wear makeup on my skin. No days that my skin is so raw that my sunscreen stings. No skipping a topical treatment day because my skin is just too red and irritated. It is early but my skin looks more even and refined.

Notably, unlike by day ten of Retinol use, my skin is hydrated and smooth.

The Experiment

Structurally, bakuchiol is nothing like retinol.

But I still wondered if an excessive application would irritate my skin like retinol can. So I deliberately over-did it a few nights in a row to see what would happen.

I zealously applied it before bed expecting to wake up with a red face. Unlike Retinol, I did not wake up red and irritated, and my skin was not tight or itchy feeling. It looked smooth and hydrated, even without applying moisturizer. When I applied Morganna’s Alchemy 24k Glow in the morning, it did not sting and my skin was not tight.

what We Love about 24k Glow

Unlike Retinol, Morganna’s Alchemy 24k Glow can be used on areas too sensitive for retinol. I can use it around my mouth, on the under-eye area, and on crow’s feet.

And while retinol shouldn’t be used during the day, this bakuchiol-based product is safe to use both day and night.

Studies show bakuchiol results are seen in 12 weeks. So far, so good!
