Sacred Mama Organics SuperFood Beauty Oil: What to Know

October 25, 2025 · 15 Comments

This organic oil packs in beauty powerhouses like Pomegranate, Royal Jelly, Abyssinian Seed and Rosehip Oils. The true star of this oil, however, is “baby collagen”-making Watercress.

Watercress is a secret anti-aging weapon.

Wonderful, Wonderful Watercress

Sacred Mama Organics SuperFood Beauty Oil is a non-comedogenic Watercress-based oil. It is suitable for daily use and beauty emergencies.

We previously posted exciting skincare research identifying the exact mechanism of the skin resiliency changes that cause rougher skin and overall skin aging. The study cited that Watercress reverses these skin issues by promoting Collagen III production in the dermal cells. Collagen III is known as baby collagen because it is plentiful at birth but diminishes with age.  Collagen III must regenerate in the dermal cells of the papillary dermis skin layer to reverse signs of aging. [1] Watercress can do this.

Watercress also contains many skin-enhancing nutrients. One example is copper. Copper builds both collagen and elastin.

Elastin gives skin its’ springy, vibrant, youthful bounce. Elastin is as important as collagen, but fewer products address elastin restoration. And even fewer restore the collagen and elastin fibers in the dermal cells.

Watercress is only one of the many skin-enhancing ingredients in this amazing formulation.

Sacred Mama Organics SuperFood Beauty Oil is a lovely clear, pale gold oilThese ingredients are natural, safe and backed by many independent research studies. Let’s take a look.

How Aloe Vera Can Make Your Skin’s Collagen Better

April 8, 2025 · Leave a Comment

We all know Aloe Vera can soothe a sunburn or help heal a scraped knee. But exciting research now explains how this well-known wound healer can improve the appearance of skin, namely by ramping up Collagen type III production, enhancing elastin, and restoring moisture to dry, hardened skin.

About Aloe Vera Gel

Did your Grandma keep an Aloe Vera plant in her kitchen? This folklore remedy has been used for a variety of skin conditions ranging from bug bites to sun burn. But this humble plant boasts big beauty benefits.

Aloe Vera gel contains over 75 nutrients to feed the skin. Two important nutrients for younger looking skin are Glucomannan and Amino Acids.

Glucomannan is a big part of why Aloe gel is such a great healer. It is also why Aloe can produce younger looking skin.

THE RESEARCH: Collagen Production and Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera contributes to collagen regeneration which is helpful in wound healing.

Topical Aloe Vera gel application causes its’ Glucomannan to interact with skin fibroblasts. That significantly increases collagen synthesis. [1]

But here is the best part:

Studies show aloe gel not only increased the collagen in a wound, but changed the collagen composition to increased collagen type III.

Collagen type III is also known as “baby collagen”. Baby collagen is the best kind of collagen for youthful skin. We lose Collagen type III with age.

Studies also show topical Aloe gel application increased the degree of collagen cross linking. This contracts the skin. Another benefit is it also increases hyaluronic acid synthesis. [2]

What does that mean?

  • Aloe Vera gel on a wound causes optimal scar tissue healing (smaller, tighter, smoother scars)[3]
  • Aloe Vera gel on skin can increase collagen III and hyaluronic acid – two sources of youthful skin

I am SO slathering my face and throat with Aloe gel now.

Moisturizing and anti-aging Benefits

Mucopolysaccharides help in binding moisture into the skin.

Aloe stimulates fibroblast also stimulates elastin fibers. Elastin gives skin its springy bounce back. The more elastic the skin is, the less wrinkled.

It also has cohesive effects on the superficial flaking epidermal cells by sticking them together, which softens the skin.

Aloe Vera, also known as Aloe barbadensis miller, contains ample Amino acids. These amino acids soften hardened skin cells.

One study found wearing aloe vera gel gloves “improved the skin integrity, decreases appearance of fine wrinkle and decreases erythema”. [4]

Summary of How Aloe Vera Can Make Your Skin’s Collagen Better

Topical Aloe Vera gel application can stimulate key younger skin components which we lose with age: collagen type III, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. The Amino acids in Aloe gel can soften hardened skin and improve chronically dry skin, along with decreasing fine wrinkle appearance.

How to Best Use Watercress for Skincare Benefits?

August 22, 2022 · Leave a Comment

WATERCRESS INGREDIENT GUIDE: Watercress works wonders. Read a short synopsis of the science behind how it encourages collagen and elastin production for younger, firmer skin

Watercress supports collagen and elastin within the skin

Watercress supports collagen and elastin within the skin

The Role of Collagen and Elastin

We obsess about Collagen in our skincare regimens, and rightly so.

Collagen is the scaffold of our skin, keeping it firm and wrinkle-free. Skin with more collagen has smaller pores and fewer wrinkles.

But our skin can be devoid of these tell-tale signs of aging yet still not look YOUNG.

  • Elastin is as important as collagen for the appearance of younger skin because it keeps skin resilient.
  • We lose elastin as we age and from sun damage.
  • Elastin can be replaced in the skin, but fewer products address the loss of skin elastin.

What is the secret of youthful skin? Collagen AND Elastin.

How do you increase both Collagen and Elastin in your skin? By slathering Watercress all over it.

Watercress boosts collagen and elastin

Nasturtium Officinale boosts collagen and elastin

The Science of Watercress

Watercress, also known as Nasturtium Officinale, is a tiny plant with big beauty benefits.

A groundbreaking skincare study showed Watercress uniquely promotes Collagen III in the dermal cells of the papillary dermis skin layer. [1] Collagen III is known as “baby collagen” – it is the type we lose as we age.

Nasturtium Officinale also builds Elastin.

Elastin gives skin its’ youthful bounce.

The same study found that the more elastin skin has, the smoother skin looks. But as skin loses elastin, it becomes dull and rough.

Enhanced collagen levels ALSO increase skin elasticity. And together, they make skin taut, resilient, and radiant.

It also is an antioxidant full Vitamins A, C, E, K, and notably, Copper. [2]

Watercress boosts collagen and elastin

Nasturtium Officinale promotes Collagen III – the type of collagen we lose as we age.

What are Watercress Skincare Benefits?

Watercress contains Copper which has an amazing ability to restore skin elastin

Elastin gives skin its’ youthful bounce and the ability to spring back.  Few ingredients support elastin as copper does.

Copper peptides promote collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production within the skin. All three are vital for skin firmness, texture, radiance, and appearance.

Copper extraction is costly, which often makes it costly in skincare products. Watercress is an excellent way to get topical copper in your skincare program.

Read more about how copper benefits the skin here.

Watercress Contains Vitamin K to erase dark circles

The Vitamin K in Nasturtium Officinale reduces brown and blue-tinged under-eye dark circles caused by leaking capillaries.

As we age, we tend to get more broken capillaries, resulting in red and brown heme pooled under the skin. Vitamin K strengthens these capillaries so they are more resistant to breakage.

Watercress also contains Vitamins A and C to fight free radicals.

Science of Skincare: The GroundBreaking Collagen & Skin Elasticity Study For Ninja Level Anti-Aging

February 26, 2020 · 2 Comments

Amongst the countless skincare products and procedures out there, what REALLY restores collagen? A recent study revealed facts that may alter what products you use in the fight against dull, aging skin.

The Collagen Conundrum

There are many collagen types in our body. Each collagen type has a function. Effective anti-aging skincare is not just restoring some form of collagen on areas of visible aging. It requires producing the right kind of collagen in the right place. This gives skin resilience and elasticity. Tricky, right?

We knew the deeper the skin can be stimulated to produce new collagen, the less facial sagging there will be.  That’s still true, but now there is more intel.

The Super Science-y Skin Study

A groundbreaking skin study revealed the composition of live young and aging skin.  It looked at the baby collagen in the skin. It noted the changes in elasticity with age in the twenties, thirties, and forties.

Special technology imaged the internal elasticity of the skin. It noted the concentration of the individual collagen fibers. They located which ones made skin elastic, taut and youthful. The location and impact of these concentrated collagen clusters were new information.

“The team also studied how the variations in skin elasticity in the papillary dermis would change the look of the skin and discovered that the skin surface of females without any signs of variations in elasticity was more likely to be smooth, whereas that of females with decreased elasticity looked slightly rough” [1]

The Result

The result? Now we know exactly WHERE we need to restore collagen. And we know which type of collagen rejuvenates skin and keeps it “springy”

“The team has found out that type III collagen is abundant in the areas with healthy skin elasticity in the uppermost layer of the dermis, but it decreases in the parts where the skin elasticity has deteriorated. This suggests that the decrease in type III collagen triggers the decrease in skin elasticity” [2]

In sum: what makes skin healthy, elastic and vibrant is collagen III within the dermal cells of the papillary dermis skin layer.

And the study identified the exact ingredient to accomplish the task. It is an ingredient that appears in skincare brands like Shiseido and Tatcha. It is also a natural ingredient that can be organically farmed. It’s Watercress. Yep, Watercress.

Watercress helps makes Type Collagen III in dermal cells

Watercress helps makes Type Collagen III in dermal cells

what to do About It

Henceforth, beauty buddies, we tackle anti-aging with the precision of a vapid ninja.

We‘re featuring select products using Watercress to best advantage to precisely target Collagen III production in the proper dermal cells.

And there are some great skin products in this lineup, including an all-natural Beauty Superfood oil with a Watercress base.
