How to Best Use Peter Thomas Roth Unwrinkle Peel Pads

January 24, 2011 · Leave a Comment

REVIEW: Peter Thomas Roth UnWrinkle Pads

I have a few peel product favorites that I *THOUGHT* were doing the trick for me, but I’ve had such good results with the Peter Thomas Roth Power K Eye Rescue and a few other key PTR products that I was excited to give the UnWrinkle Peel Pads a try, even though I thought I had the glycolic acid peel beauty base covered.

What It Is

What Beauty.com says about Peter Thomas Roth UnWrinkle Pads:

Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Peel Pads are a gentle yet effective daily peel with a PTR 20% proprietary complex of alpha, beta & gamma exfoliators (including glycolic, salicylic, lactic, linolenic acids) and amino acids, which are the building blocks of peptides.

Helps to minimize pores, clarify the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone. Leaves skin soft, smooth, firm and revitalized.

My Peter Thomas Roth UnWrinkle Pads Experience

Some Immediate perks:

It did not sting, even on delicate skin areas.

My skin IMMEDIATELY looked better and my skin GLOWED upon use.

My between the eyebrow crinkle wrinkles vanished.

I don’t have real forehead wrinkles but I do have a forehead line/crinkle between my eyebrows from squinting that shows mostly when my skin is very dry. It immediately looked better after application, and about 1/2 hour later forehead crinkle was really gone  no trace of it even up close.

I have more crinkle lines than real wrinkles, so I didn’t expect much of a wrinkle based result, but I was surprised how much younger my skin looked without the fine expression lines around my eyebrows and lips.

When I tried the PTR pads, I had not used moisturizer yet that day. My skin had some dry flakey spots from mild sunburn. Normally when my face gets sunburn, I flake for at least a few days, and most products seem to make it worse or at least sting. But after the pads I was absolutely smooth after one use, no stinging involved.

After a week’s use:

It removed dry skin without irritation and left my skin visibly more even and clear.
It sacked the blackheads on my nose within a few days

The pores on my cheeks were smaller and the pores on my chin seemed not visible at all.

My skin did not get irritated with continued use.

My skin was even and clear, so I did not feel a need to use it daily after the initial week because my skin was much more even and clear, so then I switched to using the pads about every three days or so for upkeep before an event that I want to look nice or if my skin seems kind of blah, I step it up to every other day.

How to Best Use Peter Thomas Roth UnWrinkle Pads

Tip: The directions say to also use the pad on the tops of your hands. There is enough product per pad to do your face, neck, and hands.

Tip: Some users says they cut a pad in half to make them last longer, but then there is probably only enough product to focus on face and neck.

I really like how there is enough product on the pads to use on knuckles and it cleans up ragged cuticles completely.

Where to Buy Peter Thomas Roth UnWrinkle Pads

d.j.v. beautenizer Fiberwig LX Mascara Why We Love It

January 21, 2011 · Leave a Comment

This is a review of d.j.v. beautenizer Fiberwig LX Mascara, a J-Beauty mascara from Fiberwig.

If you are a regular reader of Style Chicks you know how much I love Imju Fiberwig Mascara, and a few months ago they came out with a new formula called d.j.v. beautenizer Fiberwig LX.

As I’ve mentioned in a previous article, I love it for its staying power as well as how easily it comes off at the end of the day – it is soooo gentle on lashes.

ABOUT d.j.v. beautenizer Fiberwig LX Mascara

The new formula is just as gentle and as clean in removal, and also has amazing staying power during the day.

This is especially impressive for a fiber mascara – my eyes are sensitive, but I’ve never had a problem with fibers or flakes getting in my eye, or flaking under my eye. Enough so that I forget that flaking can be a problem when I try other mascaras!

d.j.v. beautenizer Fiberwig LX Benefits & Features

CURVED BRUSH DESIGN

Fiberwig LX Brush d.j.v. beautenizer Fiberwig LXThe updated formula has a curved brush to grab all of your lashes.

I like to catch my outer lashes for a second coat to give them some extra wow factor.

I also turn the wand vertically to paint some extra fibers on my middle lashes to make them appear super-long.

INGREDIENTS SUPPORTING LASH HEALTH

Fiberwig LX helps lashes get naturally longer too – it contains panthenol to condition lashes.

I had sort of forgotten about that when I was testing the formula out. Then I wondered why my bare lashes seemed to be staying at the long-end of the growth cycle. It’s been about a month and half now. After reviewing diet/supplements/other products I’m using, I think it has to be the mascara.

Now, Fiberwig LX isn’t a lash growth formula like Latisse by any means. But the panthenol conditions your lashes so they stay soft and healthy as they grow. This leads to less breakage.

And if you try out Fiberwig LX you will find that your lashes will be naturally fuller simply based on the fact that removal is so gentle that you will lose less lashes in mascara removal.

In addition, the formula is pretty flexible. If you happen to touch your lashes when the mascara is on, you won’t have any breakage.

In fact, it is so flexible that the product directions say to curl your lashes after you put it on and it dries for maximum “pop”.

I curl both before and after (I think my Paula Dorf curler works best with Fiberwig since it is easier – at least for me – to “thread” the length that Fiberwig gives between the crimper and the pad). The result is pretty amazing.

FINAL THOUGHTS

All in all, Fiberwig continues to be my go-to mascara. It works for day. It works for night. Fiberwig just works.

The brillant folks that make Fiberwig LX just came out with a volumizing mascara as well – I can’t wait to try it!

Why Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion is Special

October 13, 2010 · Leave a Comment

The weather report says the pollen count is low in my area. My itchy, puffy eyes say otherwise.

The Pollen Problem and Puffy Eyes

As the leaves turn colors and start falling off the trees, allergy season is going to hit in full force, all too soon. And there are plenty of other reasons for puffy eyes – a late night, catching a cold, or too much sodium can all make you puffy and tired looking. I had pretty much given up on reducing puffiness, since a lot of products in this catagory tended to just make my undereye bags look and feel worse – it’s incredibly delicate skin, and many ingredients that work fast also irritate the skin.

M.A.C. Cosmetics Fast Response Eye Cream works well for me, but I can’t use it days running since the caffeine deflates the puffiness – and then irritates my skin if I use it for more than one day (of note – that’s just me – I know someone who can use it everyday with amazing results).

Why Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion is Special

So when I was sent Liz Earle Eyebright Soothing Eye Lotion, I was guardedly hopeful – the word “Soothing” caught my eye. When your eyes are itchy and your skin is puffy and raw, isn’t soothing what you want?

Soothing Ingredients

The ingredient list looked great as well, since it contained Aloe Vera, and sometimes when the skin around my eyes is really, really raw I’d clip a stem from my trusty Aloe Vera plant and tap the pulp and juice on the skin.

So, has the product made it into my daily fix it kit? Definitely. Put a little on a cotton pad in the morning, lay back for a few minutes (it actually works pretty fast, but it’s nice to have a reason to lay back down for a few in the morning…), and your orbital area will be perky and bright, and ready for makeup.

The formula is actually more liquid than lotion, and the generous 5oz size will last you a good long time.

What to Know Blow Out Serious Non-Stick Hair Spray

August 30, 2010 · Leave a Comment

Is Blow Out Serious Non-Stick Hair Spray worth your attention? How does it compare to Elnett? We tested it out and here are our thoughts on What to Know Blow Out Serious Non-Stick Hair Spray.

How Does Blow Pro Blow Out Serious Non-Stick HairSpray Compare to Elnett?

Blow Pro Blow Out Serious Non-Stick Hair Spray is similar to Elnett with a few features I personally prefer.

Elnett is a beauty cult-favorite since it can hold a hairstyle and then be brushed out without leaving flakes or gunky residue, allowing a quick restyle or even a second day without re-doing your hair.

The hold property of Blow Out Serious Non-Stick Hair Spray is similar to Elnett but it does not have the strong, obvious hairspray aerosol smell that Elnett has.  I try to avoid wearing Elnett around people with allergies or in a professional work setting since I do not want a very obvious scent to my hair products.

But Elnett does have FANTASTIC holding power, Blow is a bit less hold but it also is not gunky after use so you can easily re-style.

How to Best Use Blow Out Serious Non-Stick Hair Spray

I held my hair up taut and straight at the roots gave a light spray of Blow Pro and held it upright for about 15 seconds and it gave great volume that lasted most of the day.

The Blow Out Serious Non-Stick Hair Spray Experience

The spray mist is very fine and does not get hair too wet with product, just a light veil that dries quickly. The scent is largely undetectable which makes it great for situations you wish to appear low maintenance and it is not sticky.

Blow comes in a convenient purse size that is great for travel, carrying in your bag for touchups and for the gym. It also comes in a more economical large size for daily styling use.
