How to Best Use Peter Thomas Roth Unwrinkle Peel Pads

January 24, 2011 · Leave a Comment

REVIEW: Peter Thomas Roth UnWrinkle Pads

I have a few peel product favorites that I *THOUGHT* were doing the trick for me, but I’ve had such good results with the Peter Thomas Roth Power K Eye Rescue and a few other key PTR products that I was excited to give the UnWrinkle Peel Pads a try, even though I thought I had the glycolic acid peel beauty base covered.

What It Is

What Beauty.com says about Peter Thomas Roth UnWrinkle Pads:

Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Peel Pads are a gentle yet effective daily peel with a PTR 20% proprietary complex of alpha, beta & gamma exfoliators (including glycolic, salicylic, lactic, linolenic acids) and amino acids, which are the building blocks of peptides.

Helps to minimize pores, clarify the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone. Leaves skin soft, smooth, firm and revitalized.

My Peter Thomas Roth UnWrinkle Pads Experience

Some Immediate perks:

It did not sting, even on delicate skin areas.

My skin IMMEDIATELY looked better and my skin GLOWED upon use.

My between the eyebrow crinkle wrinkles vanished.

I don’t have real forehead wrinkles but I do have a forehead line/crinkle between my eyebrows from squinting that shows mostly when my skin is very dry. It immediately looked better after application, and about 1/2 hour later forehead crinkle was really gone  no trace of it even up close.

I have more crinkle lines than real wrinkles, so I didn’t expect much of a wrinkle based result, but I was surprised how much younger my skin looked without the fine expression lines around my eyebrows and lips.

When I tried the PTR pads, I had not used moisturizer yet that day. My skin had some dry flakey spots from mild sunburn. Normally when my face gets sunburn, I flake for at least a few days, and most products seem to make it worse or at least sting. But after the pads I was absolutely smooth after one use, no stinging involved.

After a week’s use:

It removed dry skin without irritation and left my skin visibly more even and clear.
It sacked the blackheads on my nose within a few days

The pores on my cheeks were smaller and the pores on my chin seemed not visible at all.

My skin did not get irritated with continued use.

My skin was even and clear, so I did not feel a need to use it daily after the initial week because my skin was much more even and clear, so then I switched to using the pads about every three days or so for upkeep before an event that I want to look nice or if my skin seems kind of blah, I step it up to every other day.

How to Best Use Peter Thomas Roth UnWrinkle Pads

Tip: The directions say to also use the pad on the tops of your hands. There is enough product per pad to do your face, neck, and hands.

Tip: Some users says they cut a pad in half to make them last longer, but then there is probably only enough product to focus on face and neck.

I really like how there is enough product on the pads to use on knuckles and it cleans up ragged cuticles completely.

Where to Buy Peter Thomas Roth UnWrinkle Pads

Beauty.com currently has a nice Peter Thomas Roth Gift with Purchase offer: Buy $40 of Peter Thomas Roth and get a deluxe bonus jar of Un-Wrinkle Peel Pads free, (a $15 value)

Gym Beauty Bag: Pre-workout face cleaning – Makeup Removing Cleansing Cloths

September 29, 2010 · Leave a Comment

We’ll be starting a series on what we’ve found to be the best products for before, during, and after your gym workout. Since you likely don’t have your typical at-home beauty stash with you in your gym bag, we’ve tried to narrow down the products and treatments that work best for the situation…and don’t add more weight to your gym bag than you can lift when you actually workout!

Today we’ll be considering your pre-workout cleansing. Whether you wear makeup while you work out is a subject of debate, I think it comes down to personal preference, comfort, and the intensity of your workout. Personally, if my mascara comes perfect on a day that I am intending to go to the gym after work, I tend to leave it be while I work out, since my brand (Fiberwig!) stays put no matter what (side note: their new formula, d.j.v. beautenizer Fiberwig LX, would stay put in a hurricane, so it’s definitely workout friendly). But ultimately, your level of makeup at the gym depends on several factors, including whether you are there for social reasons or just to get a good workout (more on natural looking and makeup that doubles as skin treatments in future installments of the series).

After trying several options, both Lyn and I really like using a makeup removing cleansing cloth for both pre and post workout cleansing. Before your workout, a good pre-moistened cleansing cloth completely takes off your makeup and leaves your face feeling refreshed while your work out. Used after a workout, it elimates sweat and leaves your skin ready for makeup or sunscreen reapplication.

We tried a few, but our favorite is e.l.f. Studio Makeup Remover Cleansing Cloths. A gentle wipe over your skin and it takes off makeup clean, including eye makeup. And since it Aloe Vera in the cleansing formula, it doesn’t irritate or dry out your skin like some of the other wipes we tried. The package reseals and has a snap closure, so the cloths stay moist (though I keep it in a sealed zip lock bag in my gym bag just in case). e.l.f. Studio Makeup Remover Cleansing Cloths cost $3 for 20 cloths and you can get them here.

Here’s the pack of the cleansing cloths:

And here is a cloth I used to take off a full face of makeup, including two coats of mascara and liquid liner (yeah, kinda gross):

Atralin: a new prescription retinol with less irritation risk

May 6, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Just started reading about Atralin, a tretinoin (like Retin-A) that contains moisturizers to lower the chance of irritation.

What is Atralin?

ATRALIN® (tretinoin) Gel, 0.05%, is for topical use prescribed to treat acne.

I’ll have to ask my derm about it next time I’m in – this looks promising.

My Atralin Experience

So update, I tried it and LOVE it. There is a nice buffer built-in but it absorbs into skin without residue or gritty feel. It feels so good on the skin, I have to be careful not to over-apply.

Check out the texture:

Retinol
A new advance in the retinol market

Atralin Ingredients

According to the prescription literature, the other components of this formulation are:

benzyl alcohol – an organic alcohol from fruit, a preservative

butylparaben

butylated hydroxytoluene – preservative

carbomer homopolymer Type C – thickener in gel formulas that holds moisture

ethylparaben

fish collagen hydrolyzates – fish collagen, broken into absorbable pieces, used to slow skin aging and for wound healing. It also improves skin hydration and elasticity.

glycerin

isobutylparaben

methylparaben

octoxynol 9

phenoxyethanol

propylparaben

purified water

sodium hyaluronate

trolamine
