May 25, 2020 · 10 Comments

This article is an interview with EndyMed, the inventors of the NEWA at-home skin-tightening device.

Joseph Lepselter, the VP of Clinical Affairs graciously answered Style Chicks’ questions about how to best use the NEWA device for skin-tightening, Radiofrequency, 3DEEP technology, collagen production, plus tips and tricks for NEWA users.

What to Know About NEWA At-Home Skin-Tightening Device

When an at-home use device promises skin-tightening, we’re intrigued.

When the device is from ENDYMED, makers of professional skin-tightening equipment for medical offices, you have our full attention.

Got NEWA questions? Us too. And NEWA answered them for us. Read our interview with NEWA, the device for at-home skin-tightening.

What is NEWA?

Skin-tightening from home is an appealing prospect. It is easy, discrete, and works on your schedule.  Several devices claim to provide skin tightening.

But not all technologies are created equal and therefore don’t deliver consistent results.

NEWA was developed by ENDYMED – a global leader in medical aesthetics, and the 3DEEP radiofrequency energy that powers the NEWA is the same professional medical technology used by dermatologists and clinics worldwide.

NEWA technology has been clinically proven by over 40 independent clinical studies that set it apart from other devices.

But before you buy any anti-aging device, how do you know it will work?

The Interview: Your Newa Questions Answered

Joseph Lepselter, the VP of Clinical Affairs at EndyMed graciously answered Style Chicks’ questions about NEWA:

QUESTION:

How does RF (Radio Frequency) technology work?

ANSWER:

“NEWA, is powered by our professional medical grade 3DEEP radiofrequency technology which is the same technology that powers our ENDYMED treatment platforms used by Dermatologists worldwide.

Our 3DEEP RF technology delivers controlled energy deep into the skin tissue, reaching the dermis skin layer, stimulating the natural production of new healthier collagen and elastin fibers. Collagen and elastin fibers are essential components of the skin which gives your skin shape, lift and support. The collagen fibers are responsible for skin strength and tone. The elastin fibers allow skin flexibility and elasticity.”

QUESTION

How does the patented 3DEEP technology produce collagen in the skin?

ANSWER

“The 3DEEP technology cause microscopic thermal wound that heats the dermal collagen, which stimulates wound healing, dermal remodeling and new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid formation.”

QUESTION

What kinds of improvements can NEWA users expect?

ANSWER

“NEWA is clinically proven to increase collagen in the skin by an average of 36% which results in a visible reduction in the appearance of lines and wrinkles and an improvement in skin texture and firmness.

The results build gradually because the body is actually being “trained” to produce higher levels of collagen and elastin, which is why our recommended treatment protocol for the first month is 4-5 treatments. After that, you can move down to maintenance treatment 2-3 times a week. The results are long lasting and accumulative which means they get better over time.”

QUESTION

What areas can the NEWA treat?

ANSWER

“Our recommended treatment areas are the upper cheeks (which extends to the crows’ feet area), lower cheeks/jawline, and under the chin (turkey waddle area).

To treat around the eyes, you must treat the skin over bony areas only, be careful not to get too close to the eyes and not to treat over the eyelids.”

QUESTION

The NEWA website shows the before/after results of areas such as the forehead and throat. Are these also treatable areas?

ANSWER

“I don’t believe we have photos of the throat area but rather under the chin/upper neck area. That area has been clinically tested and responds very well to RF skin tightening.

The forehead was not one of the areas that were clinically tested but we do have NEWA users that treat their forehead with great results.”

[Editor’s note: He is correct. The photo we perceived as throat improvement, upon closer inspection, was indeed the lift and tightening of the upper neck/chin/turkey waddle area. This gave an appearance to us of improved draping of the entire neck and throat area skin.]

QUESTION

What age group benefits the most from using NEWA?

ANSWER

“We tend to see more dramatic results with the 35-65 year-old age group.”

QUESTION

How does NEWA compare with in-office procedures such as Thermage, Ultralift, or Thermatite?  How does it compare to invasive procedures?

ANSWER

“The technology behind NEWA is widely considered safer and more effective than any other RF technology available today, whether that be a home use device or an in-office treatment like Thermage.

This is because our RF technology is multi-source, phase controlled RF which means that it’s more efficient at focusing the RF energy to the exact target area which provides better results than bi-polar or mono-polar RF technologies.

Compared to invasive procedures, the upside to NEWA is that it’s safer (non-invasive), there’s no downtime or bruising, and the results are more natural looking. The downside is that the results are also more subtle compared to a surgical facelift.

Another point to consider when comparing to any in-office procedure, whether it be surgical or non-invasive is the difference in price. These procedures cost thousands of dollars while NEWA is a fraction of the cost.”

QUESTION

Any special tips or tricks for NEWA users?

ANSWER

“Yes. Stick to our treatment protocol.

Our treatment protocol is the result of numerous clinical studies that all indicated that the first month of treatment with NEWA is the key to optimal skin tightening results.

For the first month you’ll want to do between 4-5 treatments per week. Make sure that your NEWA is blinking green halfway through your treatment because that’s the indication that the heat level is effective.

After the first month, you can move down to maintenance treatments 2-3 times a week.  But trust on this – the first month protocol is something you want to follow through on.”

QUESTION

How does the NEWA activator gel enhance the treatment?

ANSWER

“Working in tandem with your NEWA device, it conducts the RF energy into the dermis while keeping the surface of the skin cool to avoid discomfort or overheating.”

Use the Lift Activator gel with the Newa device

NEWA comes with the NEWA Lift Activator Gel:  Use the Lift Activator gel with the Newa device

QUESTION

Which is better: moving the head in bigger or smaller diameter circles? Faster or slower rotation?

ANSWER

“Smaller diameter circles with slower rotation; however, as the area of concern is smaller, the movement should be faster. The key is to make sure you’re reaching optimal heating levels. Keep and eye on the blinking LED light on the top of the device. When it turns green, that means you’ve hit your goal.”

The LED indicator light will turn green during use.

The LED indicator light will turn green during use.

QUESTION

Is there anything else NEWA users should know?

ANSWER

“We always recommend taking a photo of yourself before you start using NEWA and then another after 1 month. That way you can compare your before and after and keep motivated to maintain your results. It’s easy to overlook gradual changes for the better but photos don’t lie.”

Thanks to Endymed and Joseph for taking the time to share this very helpful NEWA intel with us!

January 10, 2020 · 16 Comments

This week, there are exciting beauty innovations at Consumer Electronics Show (CES)! HairMax debuted their latest hair regrowth device, the PowerFlex Cap. The HairMax PowerFlex Cap has 272 medical-grade lasers! That’s the highest count available on a home-use hair growth device! HairMax PowerFlex Cap helps even moderate hair loss without drug-related side effects.

HairMax PowerFlex Cap

Choosing the Right Hairmax Device for You

Style Chicks has long been a fan of HairMax devices. We’ve featured the Hairmax Laser Comb Professional 12, HairMax Laserband 82, and now the Hairmax PowerFlex Cap.

Not sure which device will work best for you?  Read our HairMax PowerFlex Cap overview and our comparison between this HairMax PowerFlex Cap and the LaserBand 82.

Who HairMax DEVICES can benefit

Hair loss affects 40% of women, including women under 30. There are fewer treatment options for women coping with hair loss. Many drugs for hair loss have unwanted side effects.

There is a brief window to revive dormant hair follicles so they once again grow hair. This chart shows degrees of hair loss. Does your loss look like one of the stages in blue? Then clinical testing shows that a HairMax device can help.

THE HairMax PowerFlex Cap DEVICE

Who HairMax PowerFlex Cap Laser 272 Can Help

The sooner hair loss treatment begins, the better the results. Female stages I-2 to I-3 are probably only noticeable to you and your hairstylist. But it still distressing and indicates measures should be taken ASAP.

HairMax

Here are the basic differences between the HairMax Laserband 82 and this HairMax PowerFlex Cap.

Design

The HairMax LaserBand 82 is a wide band that treats the scalp in three sections. It is placed at the front of the hairline in the first position. Then at the beep, slide it back to the next treatment area. The device can be positioned to treat the temples and sideburn area if desired.

Using the HairMax Laserband 82

The light-activated serum works with the HairMax device

The HairMax LaserBand 82 device

The PowerFlex cap is placed on the head and doesn’t require any manual adjustment or repositioning during treatment. It treats the whole scalp at once.

If ease of use is important to you, PowerFlex is the easiest laser device design to use.

Laser Power, Coverage and Use

POWERFLEX CAP

The PowerFlex Cap has 272 lasers, packed densely on the cap as shown.

HairMax PowerFlex cap has 272 Laser diodes

Insert the PowerFlex Cap within the included baseball-style cap or the cap of your choosing. You can wear it outside and walk around as needed.

Fit the device into the HairMax cap

Fit the laser cap device into the HairMax cap

PowerFlex Cap covers the hairline, crown, and hairline. Depending on your head size and shape, it may not reach the temple and sideburns as well as the LaserBand 82 can.

PowerFlex Cap bathes the top of the head with an unparalleled amount of low-level laser light. If your hair loss is frontal or stages 1-4 through II-2, the PowerFlex can aggressively treat hair loss before it is too late to reverse it.

The 272 lasers on the PowerFlex cap

The 272 lasers on the PowerFlex cap

The LaserBand 82

The LaserBand 82 has 82 medical-grade lasers across the band. They are densely placed, and it is moved in sequence on the scalp over three treatment areas or zones. The effect is equivalent to 82 lasers times the three area zones, or 246 lasers total. It is 1230 mW’s total output, less strong than the PowerFlex Cap (1360mW output) but is still a robust output for effective treatment. But since the Laserband82 is manually positioned, it is possible to accidentally skip an area.

HairMax Laserband 82 has eight-two diodes that flood the scalp with treating light therapy

HairMax Laserband 82 has eighty-two diodes that flood the scalp with treating light therapy

HairMax LaserBand82 has 82 lasers to bathe the scalp with light

COMB TEETH

A very useful feature is the parting combs that allow the laser light full access to the scalp.

If your hair loss is patchy or if your remaining hair is dense in sections, this parting comb feature may be a deciding factor in favor of the LaserBand 82.

HairMax patented parting teeth allows the densely placed medical grade lasers to fully access hair follicles

HairMax patented parting teeth allow the densely placed medical-grade lasers to fully access hair follicles

Additional Considerations

Treatment Time

  • The HairMax LaserBand 82 is faster, as little as 90 seconds per area.
  • The HairMax PowerFlex has two treatment modes, 15 minutes and 30 minutes.

Cost

  • The HairMax LaserBand 82 is $799. (Currently $699 at Amazon)
  • The HairMax PowerFlex is $1999. (Currently $1749 at Amazon)

Clinical Research Studies

Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) occurs in both men and women.

HairMax uses Low-Level Laser Light Therapy or LLLT to treat AGA. Clinical studies show low-level laser light therapy can regrow hair. But not all hair growth devices get results. Research indicates only a specific laser light intensity can regrow hair. [1] HairMax devices deliver that intensity.

HairMax laser devices have been the subject of 7 clinical studies proving both efficacy and safety with an over 90% success rate. These clinical studies were conducted at major medical research centers in the U.S. showing an increase hair count of 129 additional new hairs per sq. inch and in 4 recent studies, an 81% increase in hair growth occurred.

For twenty years, HairMax has produced hair growth innovations. Theirs was the FIRST device on the market to receive FDA clearance as a medical device to treat hair loss and stimulate hair growth.

YSL Touche Eclat High Cover Concealer

April 2, 2019 · Leave a Comment

It’s finally here!

Yves Saint Laurent Beauty debuted a Touche Eclat High Cover Concealer. It boasts Touche Eclat consistency with high pigment coverage.

ORIGINAL TOUCHE ECLAT IS NOT A CONCEALER

It is the beauty product every makeup artist loves. YSL Touche Eclat brightens up a dark under-eye. It hides imperfections and highlights the brow bone and lip line area. A dot blended under the nostrils lifts the face. But it doesn’t do everything.

As makeup artist Wayne Goss points out, YSL Touche Eclat is not a true concealer. This is especially so for under eye circles. It brightens but doesn’t hide well.

Read Style Chicks best use eclat article here for making the most out of this iconic highlighter.

When YSL announced a TE concealer, we obsessively checked YSLbeaute.com daily to see if it arrived yet. We gave it a test run in all kinds of lighting situations.

OUR EXPERIENCE WITH Touche Eclat HIGH COVER

It’s like your tried-and-true YSL Touche Eclat, but with concealing properties.

It promises extra pigment and buildable coverage, and it will not get cakey. YSL TE High Cover contains delicate eye skin-loving treating ingredients like hyaluronic acid and caffeine.

We love Hyaluronic and caffeine in an eye product. But what if these ingredients alter the beloved TE consistency?

We found the consistency to be smooth and silky. It is not the best coverage for red spots or acne, I do like it on the eye area. My circles are dark, it does not conceal as well as some concealers, but it is not detectable on my skin, which I love. The wear is not especially long-wearing, but the brightening effect seems to remain. It dries down enough so that mascara doesn’t run but it doesn’t highlight flakey or dry skin. The color runs similar to my current YSL shade, but darker. Both products in the photos below are in the shade Ivory, but the High Cover seems darker out of the tube and in application.

Ivory shade in YSL High Cover Concealer (top) and YSL TE classic

YSL High Cover Concealer (top) and YSL TE classic, both in the shade Ivory

OTHER YSL TE HIGH COVER FEATURES AND FACTS

Available in 16 shades, vanilla to ebony. Some shades are familiar, some new.

At YSL, you can get it monogrammed, but that takes an extra few days, and we couldn’t wait to get our hands on it. But the next one we get, we are monogramming it with the date so we know when its’ time to reorder.

WHERE TO BUY IT

For now, find YSL Touche Eclat High Cover Concealer at Yves Saint Laurent Beauty for $35

WHITENING SENSITIVE TEETH NATURALLY: Smply White Natural Charcoal Toothpaste

September 30, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Many of our favorite drinks including coffee, tea and red wine can cause tooth staining or at least a yellow tinge. The term “Pearly whites” has been taken to a whole new level with teeth whitening procedures, whitening strips, and peroxide-based home tooth bleaching kits. But if you have sensitive teeth or gums, many of these whitening treatments are not viable for you. Smply White Natural Charcoal Toothpaste removes stains and whitens teeth while fighting decay naturally even on the most sensitive of teeth.

Drink your favorite black teas and still have white teeth with Smply White Natural Charcoal Toothpaste

SMPLY WHITE NATURAL CHARCOAL TOOTHPASTE FEATURE OVERVIEW AT A GLANCE:

  • Whitens Teeth
  • Removes Stains
  • Fights Decay
  • Relieves Sensitivity
  • Cleans Teeth
  • Keeps Mouth Fresh
  • No questions asked money back guarantee

ABOUT SMPLY WHITE NATURAL CHARCOAL TOOTHPASTE

Smply White is a Bamboo Charcoal Toothpaste that uses natural ingredients to gently clean teeth and it tastes of naturally derived mint. Many tooth whitening products work quickly but can erode tooth enamel in the process, especially products with potent levels of peroxide based gels. Even if the tooth enamel is not eroded, gums can be irritated and treatments can leave temporary tell-tale white stains on the gums. Smply White is made with a careful formulation that naturally whitens teeth without causing irritation or sensitivity to gums or teeth, and most importantly, no erosion of tooth enamel occurs. Smply White is intended for daily use to replace your regular non-whitening toothpaste to fight staining and remove stains.

HOW IT REMOVES TOUGH STAINS FROM COFFEE, TEA & WINE

While there are several types of charcoal toothpaste and powdered charcoal remedies commercially available, Smply White Natural Charcoal Toothpaste uses a Premium Bamboo activated carbon that is twice as potent as that found in competitor products. It easily removes difficult stains from coffee, tea, and other tooth-staining drinks like wine and colas.

Smply White Natural Toothpaste removes stains from coffee, black tea, espresso, red wine and chocolate

MY EXPERIENCE WITH SMPLY WHITE NATURAL CHARCOAL TOOTHPASTE

I’m a heavy coffee and tea drinker and while my teeth don’t have deep stains, my teeth aren’t naturally very white, so they tend to look somewhat dingy and make me look older if I don’t consistently use a tooth whitening product. I do get staining near the gum line and in between my teeth. Unfortunately, most whitening products are too harsh for my teeth and gums to use them consistently. I am not giving up coffee anytime soon, so the idea of a natural whitening product interests me.

Directions for use are simple and easy to follow, even children can use Smply White Natural Charcoal Toothpaste

TASTE & SMELL

Smply White tastes and smells pretty good, a naturally minty taste like a real mint sprig, not a gritty chemically artificial mint. I could smell the mint before the tube was even open!

Smply White Natural Charcoal Toothpaste comes with a safety seal and smells and tastes like fresh mint

THE TOOTHPASTE ITSELF

The toothpaste is pitch black and shiny with a slightly different texture than typical toothpaste, there is a smoother grit to it, it is not detectable to the taste or on the tongue.

It doesn’t take much to effectively work, a pea-size dollop is all that is necessary, which is nice, because then the 3.5-ounce tube lasts a long time, making it even more cost-effective than many non-whitening kinds of toothpaste I typically purchase at the drug store.

Just a pea-sized amount is enough to remove tough stains and clean teeth

As an aside, the toothpaste does not make that gunky dried goo flakes that traditional kinds of toothpaste tend to do, and there are no clumps or lumps.

DOES THE CHARCOAL STAIN OR LEAVE A RESIDUE?

As one would expect from using a black charcoal, the mouth has a foamy black soot like look while brushing, but does rinse away clean without any grit after washing out your mouth.

The toothpaste washes away clean and doesn’t stain the sink after use. It is much neater and cleaner to use a charcoal powder, there’s no extra clean-up to using Smply White toothpaste over any other toothpaste, which is impressive for a charcoal product.

IT IS MESSY TO USE?

Like any toothpaste, charcoal toothpaste can stain your clothing. But if you are interested in a charcoal tooth whitening solution, this is by far the cleanest and easiest way to get the power of charcoal cleansing without messy powder getting all over your mouth, face, and bathroom countertop and sink. It is also much more gentle that direct charcoal powder that can be too abrasive to the teeth.

This easy to use Charcoal formula does not stain sink basins or bathroom countertops, there are no messy powders

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

My teeth feel very smooth and clean after use, and have a nice sheen to them, they look like they just had a professional cleaning.

GENERAL IMPRESSIONS

In less than a week, my teeth had a more even appearance and brighter look with less staining and discoloration, especially the staining between teeth that is often difficult for whitening strips to reach, as well as significant stain removal at the base of my teeth near the gumline, which I normally have to avoid with peroxide treatments or can’t reach with a whitening strip. The dingy look disappeared and has stayed away with twice a day brushing with Smply White Natural Charcoal Toothpaste, with no irritation.

Twice a day brushing with Smply White Natural Charcoal Toothpaste leads to a bright white, healthy smile!

THE COMPANY BEHIND SMPLY WHITE

A growing brand that is growing, but holds the level of care of a boutique brand. For example, the owner personally inspects every single tube of toothpaste for quality and offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee and customer support, which impresses me for a product that sells for less than $10. They also made sure in developing their formula that the toothpaste tastes good and is pleasant to use.

CONCLUSION

Smply White Natural Charcoal Toothpaste offers natural, safe tooth whitening even to those with sensitive teeth and gums using the natural power of charcoal.

I also like that Smply White doesn’t just whiten teeth but also addresses dental care by fighting tooth decay and keeping my mouth fresh and free of plaque. I am often reluctant to use whitening toothpaste that only whitens but doesn’t offer meaningful tooth care benefits. With Smply White Natural Charcoal Toothpaste, you get both.

No need to forsake your morning coffee or give up the health benefits of drinking tea or red wine for the sake of whiter teeth, now you can have both with daily, natural, effective Smply White Natural Charcoal Toothpaste.
