HIGH-PERFORMANCE VEGAN HAIRCARE DRIVEN BY SCIENCE

Noughty To The Rescue Intensive Moisture Treatment

We took a good look at what exactly makes this hair fixing formulation work. It is packed with ingredients that restore lifeless hair while helping hair retain precious moisture. It’s clever formulation uses oils that tend to make my hair soft but leave a residue.

In this formulation, the oils wash away cleanly and my coarse, curly hair is shiny, hydrated, and soft.

Let’s take a look at this Noughty formulation:

Key Ingredients

Sweet Almond Oil fixes dry, brittle hair

Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Extract

Better known as sweet almonds. Sweet Almond Oil is hair reparative and softening.

It has amino acids and proteins to strengthen the hair strand and smooth the appearance of the hair cuticle. Very helpful in restoring the appearance of health on damaged hair.

Sweet Almond Oil is a light oil, ideal for very stressed or very fine texture hair. almond oil contains proteins and vitamins A, B, D, and E. It adds shine to fine, lackluster, and dull hair.

Shea butter definition at StyleChicks.com Defining Beauty Glossary

Shea Butter

Butyros-permum Parkii

Butyros-permum Parkii is Shea Butter.

Derived from the Shea nut, this emollient is packed with vitamins and softens the hair.

The direct application of Shea Butter can leave hair dull and greasy. But within a formulation, it washes away clean and leaves hair smooth.

Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil’s moisturizing properties are well-known. It penetrates deeper than other oils.

Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil

Rich in vitamins and fatty acids, it lends a softness to roughed-up hair.

Coconut Oil can be especially helpful to coarse and curly hair because coconut oil helps hair retain both protein and moisture. It also leaves hair with a nice slip.

Direct Coconut Oil application is messy and difficult to wash clean. In this formulation there is all the coconut benefit but it rinses out clean!

Limnanthes Alba

Meadowfoam

Limnanthes Alba is Meadowfoam Seed Oil derived from Meadowfoam flowers.

Meadowfoam Seed Oil is high in fatty acids. It is highly emollient and can lock moisture into the hair.

Limnanthes Alba is particularly useful on frizzy hair and dry, colored hair to help it stay hydrated.

Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil

Argan Oil is popular in hair care.

Argan

Argan Oil keeps hair hydrated while also smoothing hair.

It promotes elasticity which reduces hair breakage. If you hair hair breakage or want to grow longer hair, Argan Oil is quite helpful.

Argan oil massaged into the scalp aids in stimulating hair growth. It softens hair length but its’ best use is the repair of damaged follicles.

Sunflower

Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Extract

Sunflower Seed Extract is hydrating, nourishing, and a supporting carrier base oil. Rich in Vitamin E, it retains moisture in the hair. Frizzy hair is naturally more dry and brittle. Sunflower oil retains moisture in brittle hair, thereby reducing hair breakage.

Avena Strigosa Seed Extract

Black oat extract is rich in amino acids. It helps even brittle, dry hair retain moisture. It also imparts a healthy-looking natural gloss.

Behentrimonium Chloride

This one sounds like a chemical, but it is a conditioning agent obtained from the oil of field mustard seeds (oilseed turnip).

This plant-based agent detangles the hair and reduces static while softening and strengthening the hair. [1] It penetrates the hair shaft so it is a potent conditioner.

Lecithin

Lecithin is a fat found in plants like soybeans. It enhances the hair’s natural barrier, smoothing each shaft to renew the outer layer of the hair. Damaged hair has a ragged cuticle, making hair look dull.

Noughty To The Rescue

Noughty To The Rescue

texture and Consistency

Noughty To The Rescue is a rich, creamy formulation. It is quite thick but easily melts between my palms and soaks into the hair. Even on long hair, a few tablespoons is more than enough to coat thick, curly hair.

Thick formulation for serious rescue potential

The scent is heady notes of argan with almond scent.

It is a ten-ounce tub.

Noughty To The Rescue Masque is a thick, rich, creamy formulation

Osmotics Nutrilash Brow Lash Enhancer What You Need to Know

December 1, 2020 · Leave a Comment

Review: Osmotics Nutrilash Brow + Lash Enhancer

Who wouldn’t want to up their eyelash game? Lash growth and lengthening products abound. Many of them cause some eye irritation and redness. For eyelash growth without the irritation, we recently discovered Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer, ideal for growing longer, thicker eyelashes and filling in bare spots on eyebrows.

Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer

Lash Growth Options

If you have sworn off lash growth products due to some brands leaving your eyes feeling dry, irritated, red and grainy, you may be reluctant to try another lash product. We tried several over time, with various degrees of success. Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer offers non-irritating lash enhancement.

Latisse for lash growth

One lash lengthening product you’re likely familiar with is Latisse.

Latisse does grow longer lashes. But the active ingredient, bimatoprost, is a known eye irritant.

The other proven ingredient that causes two known active ingredients that cause lash growth in various lash products is both known to irritate the eyes.

While you are not supposed to actually get the liquid in your eye, just on your lashes, it is very difficult not to accidentally get some in the eye.

ABOUT Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer

Osmotics Nutrilash takes a different approach to lash growth. It focuses on lash line density and addressing sparse areas.

Instead of thin, spindly, longer lashes, Nutrilash promotes stronger and fuller lashes, notably, filling in sparse spots.

I find this creates a lusher, fuller lashline and more defined eye. Length can always be added with mascara, but lashline fullness is harder to fake.

Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer FEATURES

  • This product is far less irritating to the eye because, like all Osmotics products, it only contains the ingredients clinically proven to get the job done, no fillers, no extras. This means less possible irritation due to chemical interaction and reaction to fillers, dyes, etc.
  • It uses the same technology to grow hair as the Osmotics Follicle Nutrient System. It is tested as safe for eyes.
What is unique about Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer

What is unique about Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer

  • It features 28 disposable applicator brushes and a clean dispensing weekly four tube system, so there is no product contamination from “double dipping” onto your eye and into the product.
Four tubes and 28 disposable brushes for easy, sanitary use and direct lash application

Four tubes and 28 disposable brushes for easy, sanitary use and direct lash application

  • I particularly like filling out my brow tail to the proper length and applying it to the top arch of my brows to encourage brow hair growth for a youthful, fuller, lifted brow.
  • Lash extensions can take their toll on fragile lashes. If your lashes look lackluster after removing lash extensions, Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer can get them healthy and back in shape.
  • Tip: Got one brow or eye that droops more than the other? Most people do. Add just an extra dot at the top of the arch of your drooping brow to encourage hair growth in an area that will visually raise your brow

VERDICT: I like the fuller lashline look I get from Osmotics Nutrilash Brow and Lash Enhancer, as well as the brow enhancement, my brows look fuller and more natural, especially since I can fill out the tails of the brows and sparse spots. It does require a bit more time than Latisse does to grow lashes, about 4-6 weeks. But I prefer the thick, lush, healthy look of the Osmotics grown lashes to the thinner and spindly look of the Latisse lashes.

I have not experienced any eye irritation or redness with daily use. One application is enough for lashes and touching up the sparse spots on my brows.

Gelmersea Enzyme Peeling Gel How to exfoliate sensitive skin

November 26, 2020 · 8 Comments

Review: Gelmersea Enzyme Peeling Gel

Skincare serums can’t work their magic when their absorption is blocked by dull, dead skin cells. Dead skin cells also harbor bacteria and give acne a place to grow, So regular exfoliation is key. But sensitive skin types have a problem: topical serums like Vitamin C or retinols leave our skin irritated as it is, much less adding exfoliation on top. Can’t tolerate aHAs or other peels? Then we got the peel for you: Gelmersea Enzyme Peeling Gel.

A hydrating peel that is gentle but effective

We love Gelmersea Enzyme Peeling Gel because it is exceptionally effective but can be used daily. Mature and sensitive skin types especially benefit from fruit enzymes because dead skin comes off without rubbing and scrubbing. It can even be used on more delicate skin areas such as around the mouth.

Skin looks its’ best with regular exfoliation. Gelmersea Enzyme Peeling Gel removes dead skin without irritation. It is perfect for acne-prone skin, sensitive skin, and mature skin because it cleanses, hydrates, and exfoliates. It is gentle enough to use twice a day.

But what I really love about this gel is it removes the rough, tired look of skin. The pandemic has left many of us feeling unkempt and a bit rough around the edges so to speak. This peeling gel quickly refines skin and removes that unpolished look, replacing it with healthy, smooth skin. It is spa-quality skin refinement.

Features

  • Vegan
  • Cruelty-free
  • No animal or dairy ingredients
  • Suitable for all skin types: sensitive, mature, acne-prone, dry, and oily

High-Performance Botanical Ingredients with zero skin irritation

What Makes It Special

Gelmersea is known as The Sensitive Skin Expert. This peel is approved by more than 1,000 beauty professionals and for good reason.

While a lot of peels can leave skin softer and younger-looking, many peels are drying to the skin. This peel actually hydrates.

Typically sensitive skin formulations aren’t as high-performance due to chemical limitations. Gelmersea gives an effective peel without harsh chemicals. It gets the job done using only natural ingredients.

Let’s take a look at this spa-worthy formulation:

This Vegan-friendly, gentle peel is suited for even sensitive skin

key active ingredients

Papaya Enzymes dissolve dead skin cells

Aloe Barbadensis

Aloe Barbadensis Gel has an enzyme that repairs dead skin cells.

Aloe Barbadensis

Aloe Vera heals the skin. It provides nourishment to the skin as it contains Vitamins A, C, Bs, and E as well as minerals and enzymes.

This skin food” heals, hydrates, and accelerates skin cell growth. It provides anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.

Papaya

Papaya

Papain Enzyme

Papaya helps breakdown and dissolve dead skin cells on the surface of the skin.

These enzymes gently digest keratinized dead epithelium cells on the skin’s surface. This reduces inflammation while maintaining protective lipid layers.

Pineapple extract is a natural exfoliator

Pineapple extract is a natural exfoliator and anti-inflammatories

Pineapple Enzymes

Pineapple Fruit contains extracts that are effective natural exfoliants to slough off dead cells on the surface of the skin while imparting soothing skin benefits.

Panenthol

Panenthol is Vitamin B5.

Panenthol is moisture-binding and soothing,

Prickly Pear restores lipids to the skin

Prickly Pear

Prickly Pear is a cactus fruit superfood packed with skin-enhancing nutrients.

It’s fatty acids including linoleic acid and oleic acid replenish lost skin lipids to moisturize and restore elasticity. Linoleic acid helps the skin stay hydrated.

It contains antioxidants, polyphenols, and Vitamin E. Its antimicrobial benefits reduce acne. [1]

As a carrier oil, it helps other active ingredients penetrate the skin. It also serves as a buffer for irritating ingredients. This is useful for sensitive skin types.

Chamomila Recutita Flower Extract

Chamomile is an antioxidant with potent skin-soothing action. [2]

It contains Terpenoids, bisabolol, and chamazulene. Chamomile Extract is excellent in a formulation with powerful actives because it contains flavones. These flavones inhibit the production of inflammation, even in deeper skin layers. [3]

Meanwhile, The apigenin in Chamomile protects the skin barrier. [4]. This gentle and hypoallergenic extract soothes skin, heals burns, and is great for helping skin recover and benefit from chemical peels.

Chamomile Extract also kills acne-causing bacteria while soothing the skin. [5]

the experience

Gelmersea Enzyme Peeling Gel has a very light fresh aloe and chamomile scent.

It is exceptionally gentle. It does not sting, and the skin is not red or irritated after use. I can use it right before applying makeup and it creates a silky smooth finish.

Unlike many peels, it hydrates the skin. This leaves skin looking and feeling wonderful.

Directions

Use daily. Massage a pump or two of gel on a dry face and neck in a circular motion for 1-2 minutes. The gel will liquefy dead skin cells and impurities. Rinse with water. I choose to work in sections: my forehead, my chin and jawline, nose, cheeks, and then throat.

The Results

From the first use, Gelmersea Enzyme Peeling Gel works quickly to slough off dead skin and sebum plugs. I hoped more stubborn blackheads on my nose would exfoliate away. They didn’t at first, but when I washed my face with Cerave that evening, blackheads began to rapidly purge. On my second use, they purged quickly. Meanwhile, I can barely keep my hands off my face because it feels so soft and smooth.

I love how it gives skin a softer, smoother, more refined look. Definitely softer and younger.

So much dead skin came off the first day, I didn’t expect much the next day. So I waited 2 days but it still managed to peel away even more dead skin. My skin felt amazingly smooth. It is gentle enough to use daily and very hydrating. I use it twice a week so dead skin cells have time to accumulate between uses.

I was very impressed with how well serums applied and absorbed after using Gelmersea Enzyme Peeling Gel.

It was so amazing on the face, I tried it on hands and cuticles. It works far better than hand or cuticle creams. Another impressive result was how it softens the horizontal wrinkles on the front of my throat – the ones that get worse with “tech neck”. And I absolutely love it for de-aging the decolletage area. It works on sensitive areas like around the lips without excess stinging.

We are SO SO impressed to be able to get spa-like results at home with this peeling gel!

Skin looks smoother, softer, younger, and more refined. There is NO irritation. NONE. I can apply makeup or my treating serums immediately after use.  Even if you can tolerate higher aHAs, there is a place in your skin routine for Gelmersea Enzyme Peeling Gel.

How to Best Treat Chronic Dry Skin: Toe Juice

November 7, 2020 · 1 Comment

Review: Toe Juice
Got dry, cracked feet and elbows? The now constant hand washing has left my already dry, flaky cuticles and eczema-prone knuckles absolutely raw. I tried home remedies, even a prescription cortisone cream. Fortunately, we found an effective, natural remedy to combat dry, flaky skin: Toe Juice! Toe Juice hydrates while helping the skin heal itself. It is a natural formulation to heal skin head to toe.
Toe Juice hydrates and treats dry skin

Toe Juice hydrates and treats dry skin

FIGHTING DRY SKIN

If you suffer from dry, itchy skin patches, ragged cuticles, or flaking, dry, cracked feet – you have likely tried all kinds of DIY remedies online. But some of these remedies can do more harm than good.

Lotions and creams can be messy and ineffective. Prescription remedies can lose efficacy over time. Cortisones can weaken and thin the skin.

Toe Juice was created for dry feet but works anywhere you experience skin imbalance. Toe Juice is a fast-drying liquid with no messy residue. It quickly rehydrates skin and restores healthy skin.

Skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema, as well as dandruff and dry, tight scalp hold in common the need for skin hydration. Most skin conditions also have some elements of inflammation. And when the skin barrier is disturbed, it is more susceptible to fungi, bacteria, and viruses.

Hydration is key in combatting skin flaking and dryness. Toe Juice rapidly delivers hydration to skin cells with a fast-absorbing formulation.

How to Hydrate Dry Skin

This seems so basic, yet skin hydration is so elusive. The makers of Toe Juice give an excellent explanation on their website: drinking mayonnaise.

If you were very thirsty, would you drink water or mayonnaise? Lotions and creams are actually an inferior way to hydrate the skin because their delivery method is a barrier to absorption. The consistency of lotions and creams can’t deliver moisture or healing ingredients as effectively as a fast-absorbing liquid.

Toe Juice is a liquid remedy with a unique method to deliver treating ingredients.

Toe Juice hydrates and treats skin to help it naturally to heal

Proprietary Formulation

Toe Juice with DermaVine

Toe Juice contains DermaVine, a proprietary blend of plant-based extracts like lemon peel oil, willow bark, and cinnamon bark extract. These safe, natural, and effective ingredients help the body heal itself.

Toe Juice® with DermaVine’s exfoliate dead cells while restoring healthy skin. It’s Antifungal, Antimicrobial, Antibacterial, and Antiviral.

What Makes it Special

It works quickly and won’t become less effective over time. Applying Toe Juice consistently for 10-14 days relieves most skin ailments.

Toe Juice is very safe. It can be used by newborns, the elderly, pregnant and nursing women, diabetics, cancer survivors, and chemo-patients. It won’t bleach skin and is suitable for any skin tones and ethnicities.

Lemon Peel Oil treats 31 types of Candida yeast overgrowth on the skin. [1]

Lemon Peel Oil eliminates certain skin-damaging bacterias better than the antibiotic erythromycin.  [2]

The DermaVine formulation rehydrates and promotes new, healthy skin cells. The result is a natural, effective, plant-based acne remedy.

The Ingredients

Let’s take a look at a few of the ingredients in Toe Juice’s DermaVineâ„¢ formula:

Key Ingredients

Lemon Peel Oil fights bacteria better than many common antibiotics

Lemon Peel Oil fights bacteria and fungi

Lemon Peel Oil

Lemon Peel is highly effective on Candida Yeast overgrowth on the skin. Candida yeast strains are opportunistic fungi that cause irritation and itching. It can even cause severe infections in immunocompromised individuals. Lemon Peel Oil has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacterial and fungal strains. This is attributed to the high content of monoterpenoids (terpenes). The terpenes in lemon are anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antinociceptive, antihyperalgesic, and antiviral. [3]

One study concluded the antifungal potential of lemon peel oil is probably the ”result of the synergistic interaction between hydrocinnamic acid and bergamol.”[4]

Lemon Peel Oil is also a natural exfoliator and skin purifier. [5] It alleviates skin inflammation [6] and reduces certain infection-causing bacterias. [7]

Direct, undiluted application of lemon peel oil can be excessively drying to the skin, but it works well within a balanced formulation.

cinnamonum extract

Cinnamon Bark

Cinnamonum Extract is a type of cinnamon bark.

It is used in skincare as an antiseptic, antibiotic, and astringent.

Cinnamon bark enhances the permeation and delivery of topical treating ingredients via the skin.  [8]

Cinnamonum Extract helps eliminate bacteria and detoxifies and has antiseptic properties.[9] It is particularly effective in eliminating Staphylococcus epidermidis.  [10]

Studies suggest cinnamaldehyde, a component in cinnamon, may enhance healing in P. aeruginosa-infected skin wounds. [11]

Willow Bark Extract

Willow Bark extract comes from these inner layers of the bark of the willow tree.

Willow Bark extract has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antimicrobial properties. [12]

It contains Salicylic Acid which is helpful in dandruff and psoriasis treatment. It also helps build collagen to heal scars and improve skin texture.

Toe Juice is a natural formulation to heal skin head to toe

Toe Juice is a natural formulation to heal skin head to toe

Uses

Used on a cotton ball or cotton swab and it can be precisely applied head to toe. Apply it with a dropper or with a spray bottle.

Safe for head to toe use, apply Toe Juice® anywhere from a dry, flaky scalp to cracked heels.

  • Rashes
  • Cracked skin and cuticles
  • Dry skin patches
  • Mosquito bites
  • Warts
  • Itchy elbows
  • Dandruff or scalp buildup imbalances
  • Eczema
  • Skin irritated from hand sanitizer use

My Experience

Chronic handwashing and hand sanitizer use triggers my eczema and cracked cuticles. But Toe Juice soothes my cuticles and restores my skin without chemicals. And it’s amazing on flaky elbows!

But the biggest test for me is for years I have had a chronic dry patch of eczema on my forehead. I’ve used over-the-counter, prescription and DIY remedies, yet it never truly clears.

So I applied Toe Juice daily to the eczema spot. It absorbs so well that for the first few days I was over-applying because I expected it to be wet and require a visible dry-down. By day three I just dabbed it with a drop of Toe Juice on a q-tip each day. It doesn’t sting or burn. It absorbs immediately.

Within eight days it was cleared, the dryness and even the dark reddish-brown discoloration is gone. It looks and feels so much better.
