Phytopia Clinical Collection PainAway Synergy Oil

September 22, 2016 · Leave a Comment

This week on StyleChicks, we’ve been featuring several helpful products to enhance your workout routine. One especially useful product is Phytopia Clinical Collection PainAway Synergy, which is a topical oil that, as the product title says, helps soothe aches and pains such as one experiences after a particularly tough workout (I’m looking at you, LEG day).

HOW DOES PAINAWAY OIL WORK?
PainAway is a 98.5% organic product essential oil that contains natural essential oil active ingredients that help reduce inflammation including Eucalyptus, Lavender, Rosemary, and Peppermint amongst other oils. These natural ingredients have natural anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic properties that reduce pain, tenderness and swelling. This makes PainAway safe for pregnant women, seniors, and children, or others who may wish to avoid or limit their use of pain pills.

USE
Decant a few drops (about 1-3ml) from the inverted dropper bottle and rub palms together to apply evenly over sore and painful areas. Apply in a circular motion and massage the oil in until it is absorbed.

RESULTS
I found this oil particularly helpful on my sore shoulder area post arm day workouts, and I like to use it on my sore calves after a day of wearing a favorite pair of almost 4.5′ heels. I love stiletto heel shoes, but my calves sure are achy the next day, this PainAway oil soothes tired legs after wearing too high a heel, too much walking or dancing, or if your job requires lots of standing on your feet.

After the days at the gym that I primarily focus on leg exercises, after my post-workout shower, I like to apply this oil directly on the larger muscles of the upper thigh and calves and around my knees. This helps reduce my post-workout soreness. The oil dries reasonably quickly and lightly smells of Eucalyptus. It is not an offensive scent such as might be found in some tell-tale creams and liniments that ease soreness or pain (like Ben-Gay for example). It does not conflict with any perfumes I may wear.

PACKAGING
PainAway comes in a lovely amber glass bottle with an inverted dropper, wrapped in a pretty patterned fabric bag, with a gift card pocket that includes instructions for use. Suitable for gift giving for a friend who sustained some injury, likes to exercise or has general aches and pains.

CONCLUSION:
A useful item for dealing with post workout exercise soreness, PainAway is an all natural oil that soothes pain with skin-nourishing, anti-inflammatory oils. It dries down reasonably quickly. It comes in pretty packaging which makes an excellent gift for someone you wish to pamper: a pregnant friend, a new Mom, an older person with aches and pains, or someone who is trying to stick to their exercise routine despite aches and pains.

Why We Love Pure Glam Performance Dry Shampoo

September 12, 2016 · Leave a Comment

Yesterday, I used a lot of straightening emulsifier in my hair to combat the humidity. A LOT of emulsifier. And by mid-day, my hair looked gunky because of the amount of product, not the sleek waves I had in the morning.

So it was time to pull out my new go-to product, Pure Glam Performance Dry Shampoo. The world was a happy, frizz-free place again.

Why I Love Dry Shampoo

I’ve loved dry shampoo for quite some time now:

  • it is great if you want to go an extra day or two before washing again
  • a lifesaver if you need to mitigate product overuse like I did yesterday
  • it is the best texturizer even on freshly washed hair.

Still, most dry shampoos have a downside.

  • Some leave a shadow of white dust on hair
  • most leave hair dull
  • some make hair feel dirtier than before you used them.

None of these are problems with Pure Glam Performance Dry Shampoo.

Why Pure Glam Performance Dry Shampoo is Special

One of the reasons for this dry shampoo’s superiority is the amazing ingredients it contains.

The first ingredient listed in arrowroot, which is a thickener, and is typically featured in high-end dry shampoos for its’ ability to soak up oil and freshen the hair.

It also contains antioxidants like Vitamin B, and Vitamin A.

Vitamin A is interesting here, as the Vitamin A derivative, retinol, has been shown in studies to promote hair growth. So (and this is me saying this, not the company), ostensibly if you are using this dry shampoo on your scalp to soak up oil, you could have the added benefit of promoting hair growth when used on the scalp. Plus, it is gluten-free!

The next ingredient is kaolin clay. You are probably familiar with kaolin clay from luxurious mud masks. But in dry shampoo, it is used to remove sebum and oil and keep it from forming. So, not only do you immediately refresh your hair with Pure Glam Performance Dry Shampoo, but you get an extra day or two beyond when you use it because of the kaolin clay.

The third ingredient is rice powder. Rice Powder is found in a lot of good dry shampoos, but Pure Glam mills the Rice Powder to an exceptionally smooth and fine consistency, so you get the benefits without the usual tell-tale white dust in your hair. Nice!

Look at how finely milled Pure Glam Performance Dry Shampoo is!

The fourth ingredient is baking soda, which is an excellent way to freshen up hair.

And I love the name of the essential oil that the dry shampoo contains: Organic Cymbopogon Martini. While it sounds like quite a drink, it is a scented essential oil with light rose and geranium hints, and it also has antibacterial properties.

One of my big issues with a lot of dry shampoos is the overpowering scent, but this is light and refreshing, not perfumey or chemical scented. Just light and lovely.

So with all these great ingredients, how does this dry shampoo fair?

The Experience

I love it. As I said earlier, yesterday I had a bit of a product mishap, and then the issue was compounded by extendedly being outside in the heat and humidity. It only took a small amount blended into my roots for my hair to feel clean and smooth again.

The ability to control how much you sprinkle on an area is one of the things I find superior about Pure Glam. A lot of dry shampoos that come in an aerosol can are unpredictable when it comes to how much will be deposited in an area. Not a problem with this dry shampoo! It also gave my hair incredible, luxurious volume.

How to Use Pure Glam Performance Dry Shampoo

I worked it through the length of my hair in sections and brushed it out, and my hair had a great bounce, which is rare to get when using a dry shampoo.

What impressed me as well is that my hair was incredibly shiny after using it: my blonde and red highlights shimmered in the sun, and the bulk of my brown hair had an incredible luster. A few strangers commented on it, which impressed me!

I also love how my scalp felt in using it. It gives a cool, refreshing feeling when it is being massaged into the scalp and roots of the hair. You know that saying “My hair hurts”? That was how I was feeling, and a nice massage with Pure Glam Performance Dry Shampoo made my scalp feel light again!

I am truly impressed with this dry shampoo. It has an impressive, all natural ingredient list, smells great, cleans fantastically, and makes hair so shiny!

Skincare: Herbal Choice Mari SPF-15 Day Cream

Herbal Choice Mari SPF-15 Day Cream

Herbal Choice Mari SPF-15 Day Cream

If you are even a sporadic Style Chicks reader, you know how strongly we feel about the daily use of sunscreen, 365 days a year, rain or shine.

I have become increasingly concerned about chemicals in sunscreens being absorbed transdermally into my system. A lot of chemicals such as oxybenzone are readily absorbed into your body and have been shown to cause allergic reactions in some people and cause toxicity. Synthetic fragrances and dyes can also get into your system, and can cause topical reactions as well. Trading sun protection for a rash or toxic chemicals in your system doesn’t sound appealing, does it?

That is why I like Herbal Choice Mari SPF-15 Day Cream. It is oxybenzone and octinoxate free. It is also free of chemicals and nano-particles, which can penetrate the skin and get into the system. It is also free from petroleum based ingredients. And from the Herbal Choice website, all the other things it is free of: “free from synthetic fragrances or dyes. Free from gluten, dairy, soy, corn, no GMO. Free from phthalates, parabens, preservatives. Free from beeswax, insects or animal ingredients”. And it is also Cruelty-free, vegan and vegetarian. Covers all the bases, doesn’t it?

While it comes in tinted shades (like a tinted moisturizer or a light BB cream), I selected the transparent shade. It does leave a bit of a white film. However, I’m finding of late that if you apply a sunscreen that leaves a white tint, then foundation is truer on my skin. I’m quite fair and have a cool skin tone, so consider one of the tinted shades if you aren’t quite as pale as I am.

So, the big question is, if it doesn’t protect the skin via chemicals, then how does it actually work? It contains Non-Nano Zinc Oxide, a well-known sun shield. It is a full-spectrum sunscreen, so you are protected from both UVA and UVB rays. It also has lovely skincare ingredients such as organic olive oil, organic lemongrass, organic lavender, and organic sage.

It has a delicate lemongrass scent that dissipates on the skin. The formula itself is incredibly emollient and makes my skin feel smooth and supple. It comes in a lovely purple glass jar to protect the formula, and it is quite pretty on its own.

I’m very happy to have found a sunscreen that not only protects and nourishes my skin but is also free of so many dangerous ingredients! I often hear absorption of chemicals as a reason women don’t choose to wear sunscreen, but there are alternatives, and this is a great sunscreen that won’t harm your body and is great for your skin! It also comes in an SPF 30, which is recommended by many dermatologists.

Find this great sunscreen at Nature’s Brands.
