Caley Cosmetics Color Wave Natural Lipstick provides a precise tube form application with excellent pigmented color payout.

While we love the idea of a natural lipstick, in our experience, the options from other brands are generally more like a tinted or sheer balm in chapstick style tube form. These have their place in a casual, barely-there hint of color looks. But they lack the grown-up sophistication of a precise application lipstick formulation. The tube balm formulation tends to be messy or overly dry. I personally am underwhelmed with limited color choices from other brands. Another issue is my lips are thinner and can use the definition of a tube lipstick, not an imprecise balm.  That effortless look takes a lot of effort for me to look presentable. Caley Cosmetics Color Wave Natural Lipstick gives a finished, refined look, and fills a place in the market with a natural lipstick that is simply a great lipstick.

MORE ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS

Caley Cosmetics Color Wave Natural Lipstick

Caley Cosmetics Color Wave Natural Lipstick is filled with natural, treating ingredients

Many lipsticks contain chemicals you wouldn’t voluntarily ingest. The ingredients on Caley Color Wave Natural Lipstick are amazing.

  • Castor Seed Oil is a humectant that reduces inflammation, heals scars and hydrates.
  • Sunflower Seed Oil is hydrating, nourishing and an excellent supporting base. It retains moisture in the skin and is rich in Vitamin E. [1]
  • Abyssinian Seed Oil is lightweight and absorbs easily. It contains linoleic acid, which is the predominant fat in skin cells. It forms the lipid barrier that holds moisture in skin cells, which keeps skin hydrated.
  • Candelilla Wax is a vegan substitute for beeswax with similar properties. It works well with other waxes for improved product consistency and to raise melting points without chemicals.
  • Cera Alba is beeswax. It allows the skin to retain its’ own moisture. it softens skin and provides a bit of natural lip-plumping quality. It is a natural skin conditioner that stands up to wind, dry weather, cold winters, and hot summer sun.
  • Coconut Oil is highly moisturizing. It is also anti-inflammatory with mild UV protective properties. Coconut Oil exfoliates dry flaky skin and reveals smooth skin. It is antibacterial.
  • Aloe Vera Leaf Extract has an enzyme that repairs dead skin cells. It soothes minor burns, scrapes, and heals the skin. It provides nourishment as it contains Vitamins A, C, Bs, and E as well as minerals and enzymes. This skin “food” heals, hydrates, and accelerates skin cell growth. It provides anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.
  • Persea Avocado Oil is 72% monounsaturated fatty acids. Avocado Oil mixes with water better than other oils, so it works well with other ingredients. Avocado Oil absorbs easily, making it an ideal moisturizer for dry, chapped skin.
  • Sesame Seed Oil is full of fatty acids, vitamins, and nutrients. Full of antioxidants, it has a very thick and rich texture. It absorbs exceptionally well and seeps into the skin, making it soft and silky.
  • Papaya Seed Oil contains the enzyme Papain. Papain is a natural exfoliate which gently removes dead skin cells. It is high in Tocopherols and Carotenoids, it’s an antioxidant and improves skin elasticity, reduces wrinkles, moisturizes and promotes skin cell regeneration. It has an amazing fatty acid profile, including linoleic and Behenic acid. It is exceptionally soothing to dry, chapped lips.
  • Rice Bran Oil contains a large percentage of fatty acids that are rich in Omega 3 and 9. Rice bran oil is high in Vitamin B and E, giving it the potential to promote hydration, reduce pigmentation, and diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It contains antioxidants, such as beta-carotene, CoQ10, and lycopene.
  • Watermelon Seed Oil is an outstanding antioxidant and highly nutritive oil. It is high in unsaturated fatty acids, such as by linoleic and oleic acids. It has antioxidant activity and the vitamin E compounds that protect the skin from oxidative stress and photo-aging. It also contains essential proteins, vitamins, and minerals to enrich lip skin. It absorbs quickly. [2]
  • Illipe Butter comes from the nut of the Illipe tree. The butter is highly nourishing and promotes skin elasticity.
  • Cocoa Butter contains a significant amount of polyphenol and flavonoid antioxidants. It prevents skin peeling. It keeps skin elastic.
  • Elderberry Extract is popular in skincare because it increases microcirculation. It is high in Vitamin C and E to decrease fine lines, but is still gentle enough to use on lips when included an emollient formulation such as this one.
  • Mango Fruit Extract is high in copper, which is fantastic for delicate skin like the lips! Copper builds Collagen, Elastin and increases Hyaluronic Acid production which keeps lip skin plump and springy.
  • Jasmine Oil supports skin elasticity by preventing elastin degradation in the skin. It is high in antioxidants.
  • Hibiscus Flower Extract promotes collagen
  • Pineapple Fruit contains fruit extracts that are effective exfoliants to sloughs off dead cells on the surface of the skin while imparting soothing skin benefits.

Also:

  • Tocopheryl Acetate is a form of Vitamin E used in skincare. Vitamin E has anti-inflammatory properties, which soothe irritated lips.
  • Triisostearyl Citrate is an emollient that is smooth and non-greasy. It imparts pigment-dispersing powder.

Groundbreaking Acne-Treating Ingredients: Neutralyze Exfoliating Pads

July 5, 2019 · 6 Comments

Acne is the most common reason to see a dermatologist (1). Neutralyze Exfoliating Pads treat acne quickly without undue irritation. Neutralyze is the first acne treatment system to use Nitric Oxide. Nitric Oxide improves moderate-to-severe acne within DAYS. Read how Neutralyze uses Nitric Oxide, Salicylic, and Mandelic Acids to treat acne without excess irritation.

Neutralyze Exfolating Pads

WHY USE AN ACNE FORMULATION

Neutralyze Exfoliating Pads for moderate to severe acne

Neutralyze Exfoliating Pads for moderate to severe acne

Many acne products are too harsh for sensitive skin. Skin conditions like eczema and rosacea limit acne treatment options. Acne treatments can make wrinkles and dry skin look worse.

WHAT MAKES NEUTRALYZE SPECIAL?

Neutralyze combines powerful ingredients for effective acne treatment. It also treats eczema, rosacea, and other skin conditions. It works in days, even on severe acne. There is little to no irritation.

NEUTRALYZE & NITRIC OXIDE

Neutralyze is the first acne treatment system to use Nitric Oxide. It is a new acne treatment ingredient. Nitric oxide is an anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial that reduces sebum. (2) Nitric Oxide has only been available for acne by prescription.

Textured pads

Textured pads contain acne treating Nitric oxide

  • Neutralyze combines Nitric Oxide with two effective acne treatment ingredients. It treats moderate-to-severe acne without irritation.
  • Neutralyze fades acne scars, even dark cystic acne marks.
  • Neutralyze is gentle yet effective. Skin conditions like rosacea complicate acne treatment. Neutralyze also treats rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, and keratosis pilaris (“Chicken Bump” skin).

INGREDIENT PROFILE

Neutralyze stops acne formation by combining a bHA (beta hydroxy acid) and aHA (alpha Hydroxy Acid) to completely clear pores. BHAs work from the bottom of a pimple up, AHAs work from the top layer of the skin down. This approach has been clinically proven to be highly successful in acne treatment. (3)

Salicylic Acid is a natural bHA that comes from White Willow Bark.

Salicylic Acid is a natural bHA from White Willow Bark. It treats acne and promotes collagen.

SALICYLIC ACID

Salicylic Acid is a bHA (beta hydroxy acid). Salicylic acid purges clogged pores without excess drying. It clears from the bottom of the pore up. Salicylic Acid also helps build collagen to heal acne scars. Collagen production is a nice perk of an acne treatment.

Salicylic acid works better when paired with another peeling agent. A combination of salicylic and mandelic acids was shown to be especially effective on moderate acne. (4).

Neutralyze uses a 2% Salicylic Acid concentration.

Mandelic acid is a natural skincare ingredient extracted from bitter almonds

Mandelic Acid is a natural skin care ingredient extracted from bitter almonds.

MANDELIC ACID

Mandelic Acid is an aHA (alpha hydroxy acid). It gently removes bacteria-trapping dead skin. Dead skin enables acne formation. Dead skin also dulls the complexion and makes fine lines look worse.

Mandelic acid gently treats both acne and signs of skin aging. (5) It is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory. (6)

Neutralyze uses a 1% synthesized Mandelic Acid concentration.

NITRIC OXIDE

Neutralyze Exfoliating Pads include NITROGEN BOOST SKINCARE TECHNOLOGY. Studies show Nitric Oxide improves moderate-to-severe acne within days.

Nitric oxide is found naturally in our bodies. It is an antimicrobial. It reduces Propionibacterium acnes, a key bacteria of acne formation (7). The body doesn’t build a Nitric Oxide resistance.  It remains effective for long-term acne treatment. (8)

Studies show Nitric Oxide is gentler than Retinol for treating acne. (9) Nitric Oxide works from the bottom of a pimple upwards. This treats even deep cystic acne without excess surface irritation.

PRODUCT DESIGN & FEATURES

The sealed container holds 100 treatment pads. These pads contain the Neutralyze acne-fighting solution. The treatment pad has a dual exfoliating textured surface. The pads are tear resistant. There are no loose fibers.

A useful feature is the easy-to-grab “pickup-notch” to grab only one pad at a time. No wasted or contaminated pads.

MY EXPERIENCE

I use one pad a day, two if I am experiencing breakouts

I use one pad a day, two during breakouts

Use one pad per time, one to three times a day. I started with once a day and worked up to two as needed for breakouts.

Since pads are dual-sided, I use one side of the pad on my whole face.

Each container holds 100 pads

Each container holds 100 pads. Use up to three a day.

Then I use the other side and pay special attention to problem areas. These areas include the blackheads on my nose, and whiteheads on my cheek, and some cystic acne scar marks.

On the first day, acne seemed less swollen and angry.

  • FEEL: My skin does not feel dry or irritated even with daily use. It does not sting or burn. The scent is nominal and dries down. I apply my standard moisturizers and products after a few minutes.
  • Textured surface for exfoliation without scrubbing

Textured surface for exfoliation without scrubbing

USE: The pad doesn’t tear apart during use like some treatment pads. One pad is enough to treat my face.

The texture of the pad can provide additional exfoliation, but I didn’t find it necessary to scrub.

RESULTS

We found Neutralyze Exfoliating Pads to be powerful yet gentle in acne treatment.

I also like the light mandelic acid peel effect on the rest of my face. I am not irritated or peeling but my skin remains smooth and nicely exfoliated. After about a week of daily Neutralyze use, my skin had a nice glow to it. A nice acne treatment benefit!

Neutralyze Exfoliating Pads contain natural yet effective ingredients safe for even sensitive skin types

Neutralyze Exfoliating Pads contain natural yet effective ingredients safe for sensitive skin types

I’ve used Salicylic Acid on blackheads before. But some stubborn blackheads around my nose weren’t budging. The Neutralyze combination of three ingredients seems to work for me. The blackheads are loosening up, reducing and exfoliating away. I don’t have any active cystic acne pimples, and my older acne scars seem clearer.

I’m also impressed by how Neutralyze clears up the KP (Chicken Bumps) on my upper arms. The skin is clear and soft. This is a very nice bonus, and for a KP treatment, you can’t beat the price of Neutralyze.

Science of Beauty: Why Use Mandelic Acid for Acne to Anti-Aging

July 1, 2019 · 5 Comments

Acne is the most common skin condition in the United States.
No acne treatment overview would be complete without Mandelic Acid.

Retinol is still the gold standard for acne. But peeling acids are more common in acne and acne scar treatment. And Mandelic Acid is an ingredient worthy of your attention. It gets the results of a robust acid but with little to no skin irritation.

WHAT IS MANDELIC ACID?

Mandelic acid is a natural ingredient that comes from bitter almonds

Mandelic acid is a natural ingredient that is extracted from bitter almonds

Mandelic acid is a very gentle AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid).

Mandelic acid penetrates the skin slowly, making it suitable for even sensitive skin. While it is an “acid” it is very gentle and rarely causes skin irritation.

Mandelic acid is natural, clean, green, and skin-friendly.

It is useful in organic skin care product formulations.

HOW MANDELIC ACID WORKS: ACNE TO ANTI-AGING

Mandelic acid accelerates cell turnover by dissolving the tiny bonds that hold skin cells together. This microexfoliation accomplishes several skincare objectives.

ACNE

Mandelic acid is useful in acne treatment. Mandelic acid removes bacteria-trapping dead skin, which contributes to acne formation. Dead skin also dulls the complexion and makes fine lines look worse. Removing dead skin cells brightens skin. It is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory. If you have adult acne, Mandelic acid is ideal to treat both acne and signs of skin aging. (1)

ANTI-AGING

Mandelic acid an appealing ingredient within anti-aging products. Mandelic acid is helpful for smoothing mesh-like pattern wrinkles. Mandelic acid promotes collagen production. More collagen increases skin’s elasticity and youthful appearance. Collagen counteracts sun damage by smoothing and refining the skin surface. Sun damage is the largest cause of visible signs of aging.

Mandelic acid reduces hyperpigmentation. It lightens acne scars, sun damage, and age spots.

MANDELIC ACID VS GLYCOLIC ACID

Both acids are highly effective at causing rapid cell turnover. Both reveal younger, smoother, brighter skin. Both acids dissolve the “glue” holding dead skin cells. Both remove dead skin cells without forceful scrubbing. Both Mandelic Acid and Glycolic Acid are ideal for skin unable to tolerate harsh exfoliants.

A difference between the acids is that Mandelic acid has a larger molecular structure than glycolic acid. Smaller molecular structures penetrate the skin faster and deeper.  (2) If the skin can tolerate glycolic, that’s great. But if the skin gets irritated by Glycolic acid, Mandelic acid is an ideal option. The larger molecular structure of Mandelic Acid gets the job done, albeit a tad slower. Mandelic is kinder to the skin. There is little to no irritation and redness with regular Mandelic Acid use. (3)

MANDELIC ACID TIPS FOR BEST USE

  • Skin using AHAs, including Mandelic Acid, is more sensitive to light. Always wear sunscreen
  • To avoid irritation, choose products with 10% or less Mandelic Acid concentrations

HYPERPIGMENTATION

Some hyperpigmentation fading ingredients work best on pink undertone skin. Mandelic Acid works on the hyperpigmentation of all skin tone types. Mandelic Acid inhibits melanin production in existing scars, age spots, and acne marks. (4) This reduces hyperpigmentation of all types on all skin tones.

Mandelic Acid: A Holy Grail Ingredient

Mandelic Acid earns our “Holy Grail Ingredient” rating. It reduces sun damage, acne, and hyperpigmentation. It gently exfoliates and improves skin texture. It works on all skin tones and textures, including mature and sensitive skin. It is natural and suitable for organic product formulations. A Style Chicks skincare superstar!
