What is Beauty?

Beauty comes in many forms. Here are a few of our favorites...

Tea Tree Oil for Hair and Skin Melaleuca Oil Benefits

January 21, 2021 · Leave a Comment

Tea Tree Oil has beauty and health applications that make it a powerful multi-tasker in your beauty arsenal.

The lovely Flowering Tea Tree

The lovely Flowering Tea Tree, Melaleuca alternifolia

Tea Tree leaves are crushed to obtain the oil.  Melaleuca alternifolia, or tea tree, is not a source of green tea leaves.  Tea tree oil is also called melaleuca oil.  We use these terms interchangeably. This natural remedy oil has many useful applications. It is a potent essential oil and almost always requires dilution.

Here are ways to use Tea Tree Oil for scalp health, hair loss, acne, moisturizing skin and to prevent razor burn.

TEA TREE OIL For HAIR

Tea Tree Oil for Hair Growth

Melaleuca oil doesn’t directly cause hair growth, but it removes hair growth barriers.  It induces hair growth by unclogging hair follicles and nourishing roots. It also helps prevent hair loss and hair fall.

To use Tea Tree Oil for hair growth, first choose a carrier oil. Jojoba, safflower, grapeseed, and almond are a good choices for hair and scalp care. Add a few drops of Melaleuca oil and massage it into the scalp. It should tingle, but not burn. Straight Tea Tree Oil is too potent for direct contact with the scalp.

When first using Tea Tree Oil, hair may seem a bit dry, this is normal until the scalp finds a balance. If hair seems dry, use less Tea Tree and focus the massage treatments directly on the scalp.

Tea Tree Oil for Dandruff

Melaleuca oil is useful on dandruff when used as a toner or by adding a few drops of melaleuca Oil in shampoo. It reduces dandruff severity, itchiness and greasiness. [1]

Flowering Tea Tree

TEA TREE OIL For SKIN CARE

Tea Tree Oil for Acne

Melaleuca oil contains terpinen-4-ol, which is an amazing antibacterial and antifungal.[2,3]

It is also a moisturizing toner, cleanser and astringent. It effectively treats acne and prevents future breakouts [4]. It is not drying like other acne-treating ingredients, so it is effective on sensitive skin and adult acne. It even treats cystic acne.

Melaleuca oil for acne is gentler than other remedies.[5] It does not irritate the skin, it stops breakouts. It does not preclude using anti-aging treatments on same areas.

How to Treat Acne with  Tea Tree Oil

There are two ways to use Melaleuca oil for acne.

  1. The first way is to mix a ratio of 90% water to 10% Tea Tree Oil and dab it on the spot with a Q-tip or cotton ball, twice a day.
  2. The second way is to combine one teaspoon of Aloe Vera Gel with two drops of Melaleuca oil  and apply the mixture to acne with a q-tip. Let it dry fully, wait a few minutes, and wash with warm water followed by moisturizer.

Melaleuca oil can gently treat acne breakouts but is gentler on the skin than benzoyl peroxide. It also heals while it treats so there is less dry, flaky, red skin after acne treatment.

Melaleuca oil for Dry Skin

Treat dry skin with Almond Oil and Melaleuca oil and gently massage it into skin ten minutes before bathing. It is also an excellent natural treatment for contact dermatitis [6] and psoriasis [7].

Melaleuca oil and Shaving

Melaleuca oil added to water can lather and used for shaving. It moisturizes the skin and can soothe the skin after waxing or threading. Melaleuca oil prevents razor irritation or a “razor burn” rash. Add Melaleuca oil to your regular shave cream, oil or soap to pre-empt the razor burn.

Other Benefits

  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Wound healing
  • Clears Nail infection
  • Natural (diluted) mouthwash
  • Use diluted as a wash to inhibit mold on fruit!!

Morganna’s Alchemy Serum Trio Collection

January 17, 2021 · Leave a Comment

Our skin changes with age and environmental exposures. Morganna’s Alchemy Serum Trio Collection contains three skin products that contain natural, effective anti-aging ingredients. They work together to address a variety of problems impacting adult skin, including blue light damage.
Morganna Trio

Morganna Trio

Find yet another new wrinkle? Notice discoloration or skin sagging?  It is tempting to go into mad scientist product overload mode, using multiple products that promise to counteract wrinkles, laxity, discoloration, and sun damage. This zealous product cocktail approach irritates mature and sensitive skin.  It also isn’t particularly effective. The Morganna’s Alchemy Serum Trio Collection reverses aged skin and combats future skin damage.

Pea Peptides fights skin damage caused by blue light

One of the serums in this efficient trio even fights the damage caused by blue light.

Morganna’s Alchemy
Water Drops Serum Ingredient Highlights

Sea Grapes algae promote collagen

Sea Grapes are a variety of green algae that promotes collagen production

Acetyl Hexapeptide-37

Acetyl hexapeptide-37 is a synthetic peptide. It is a combination of amino acids alanine, proline, serine, and glycine.

Acetyl hexapeptide-37 balances the water in the skin’s surface layers to alleviate dehydrated skin.

Caulpera Lentilifera promotes collagen

Caulpera Lentilifera

Caulpera Lentilifera (Green Algae) Extract is an edible seaweed known as sea grapes or green caviar. It is high in minerals with reported anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties.

Caulpera Lentilifera contains fucoidan. Fucoidan promotes fibroblast cell production. Fibroblast cells produce collagen and promote wound healing.  Fucoidan also renews and brightens the skin while reducing wrinkle depth and skin spot intensity. [1]

It contains Alginic acids to strengthen the lipid barrier, retain hydration and elasticity.

Sea Grapes are also rich in amino acids for glowing, supple skin.

Astaxanthin from Lithothamnion Calcareum

Red Algae contains Astaxanthin

Lithothamnion Calcareum is Red Algae. Red Algae is a natural source of Astaxanthin.  It enhances the skin’s barrier function, replenishes moisture, and increases its moisture-retention capabilities.

Astaxanthin helps to avoid the harmful effects of external factors on the skin. It protects collagen and elastin skin cells against oxidation or decay. [2, 3] It is moisturizing and has UV blocking properties. Astaxanthin counteracts UV damage and improves elasticity via improved skin function. It promotes collagen production. [4] Astaxanthin suppresses hyperpigmentation and photoaging. Clinical studies show Astaxanthin reduces wrinkle formation. [5]

Hydrolyzed Elastin

Elastin is a skin protein. Elastin is paired collagen in the dermis skin layer and gives structural support to the skin. It is the stretchy structural proteins that allow the skin to snap back into place. Elastin is vulnerable to sun damage. Elastin is as important as collagen for the appearance of younger skin, but fewer products address the loss of skin elastin.

Unlike collagen, topically applied elastin (hydrolyzed) is readily absorbed by the skin and can promote new elastin synthesis. [6]

Glycerin

Glycerin is a natural vegetable-derived humectant. Glycerin helps the skin to retain moisture. Glycerin fills in gaps in dryer skin which makes skin look better and keeps the outer layer of the skin intact.

Lactic Acid

Lactic acid is an organic acid that exfoliates and brightens skin. It is gentler than glycolic acid. Lactic acid holds moisture while increasing firmness and skin thickness.

Sodium Hyaluronate

Sodium Hyaluronate is a non-synthesized form of Hyaluronic Acid. It is a humectant that offers stronger moisture retention properties than regular HA. It is found naturally and ample supply in young skin, but depletes with age.

Sodium Hyaluronate has a lower molecular size than other Hyaluronic Acids. It absorbs deeper into the skin and brings other actives along with it.

Butylene Glycol

Butylene Glycol is organic alcohol, one of the “good alcohols”.  It is a conditioning agent that softens skin, a humectant that coats the cell surface.

Caprylyl Glycol

Caprylyl Glycol is a skin-conditioning agent.

Lemon Drops Serum

Lemon Drops Serum

Lemon Drops Serum

  • Ideal for: skin brightening, collagen production
  • Texture/Consistency: lightweight
  • Scent: No detectible scent
  • How to Use It: Use 2-4 drops of serum morning and night on clean skin. Apply sunscreen or moisturizer after.

Morganna’s Lemon Drops

Experience:

We expected the lemon to sting but it doesn’t. Not even on sensitive skin areas.

It is a lightweight serum with a smooth dry down. There is no tackiness or sticky residue.  It gives skin has a nice glow and doesn’t pill under sunscreen.

It is a Vitamin C, so remember to wear sunscreen!

Lemon Drops has a lightweight texture

Lemon Drops builds collagen

Lemon Drops builds collagen and provides moisture

Morganna’s Alchemy
Lemon Drops Serum Ingredient Highlights

Citrus Limon Peel Extract

Lemon/Limon peel contains concentrated vitamin C to build collagen, fade age spots and rejuvenate photodamage. Vitamin C reduces excess oil production, shrinks pores, and exfoliates dead surface skin. These reduce the formation of adult acne while treating skin aging.

Lemon Peel Oil is also a natural exfoliator and skin purifier. [7] It alleviates skin inflammation [8] and reduces certain infection-causing bacterias. [9]

Direct, undiluted application of lemon peel oil can be excessively drying to the skin, but it works well within a balanced formulation.

Cichorium Intybus

Cichorium Intybus is Chicory Root Extract.

Chicory Root Extract firms wrinkles, restores elasticity and fights signs of photo-aging.

Crosspolymer Hyaluronic Acid

A modified form of hyaluronic acid attached to a polymer structure that keeps it within the skin’s uppermost layers longer. [10] This creates an enhanced hydration effect. Not animal-derived.

Sodium Hyaluronate

Sodium Hyaluronate is a non-synthesized form of Hyaluronic Acid.  Skin-plumping Sodium Hyaluronate has a lower molecular size than other Hyaluronic Acids. It absorbs deeper into the skin and brings other actives along with it.

Penthelyne Glycol

Penthelyne Glycol binds water to the skin.

Illuminate Pea Peptides

Illuminate Pea Peptides Serum

Probably our personal favorite of the trio is the Illuminate Pea Peptides Serum. It reduces discoloration and contains fractionated melanin to prevent damage from harmful blue light (i.e. computer screens, phones and tablets).  All those Zoom conferences expose skin to aging blue light.  While we have little choice in using these devices at this juncture, blue light can do a real number on your skin. But Illuminate Pea Peptides Serum combats blue light damage with natural, effective ingredients that are gentle to the skin.

Illuminate Pea Peptides is lightweight with no residue on dry down

  • Ideal for: hyperpigmentation
  • Texture/Consistency: lightweight with no sticky residue
  • Scent: None
  • How to Use It: Apply 2-4 drops morning and evening on clean skin.

Experience:

The dry down is quick and there is no tacky finish.

Morganna’s Alchemy
Illuminate Pea Peptides Serum Ingredient Highlights

Pea Peptides

Pisum Sativum (Pea) Extract

The garden pea. Pea extract can calm irritated skin. Rich in ellagic and gallic acids, beta-sitosterol, and quercetin it has antioxidant benefits.

It protects collagen and elastin which makes it an ideal anti-aging treatment to promote elasticity and improve skin firming.

Bakuchiol

L-Proline Bakuchiol (Psoralea Corylifolia) Extract is commonly called Bakuchiol. Bakuchiol is derived from the leaves and seeds of the babchi plant.

Bakuchiol is a natural retinol alternative. It is plant-based, non-irritating, and clinically proven statistically as effective as retinol. Bakuchiol improves photoaging, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation equally as well as retinol, but Bakuchiol is better tolerated. [11]

It stimulates collagen within the skin, as well as significant improvement in wrinkles, pigmentation, elasticity, and firmness without the retinol associated side effects. [12]

Bakuchiol inhibits melanin production on age spots and acne scars [13]. Bakuchiol helps with acne.[14]

Zamea Propanediol comes from corn

Zamea Propanediol

Zamea Propanediol is a humectant with the ability to penetrate the skin for a smooth hydrated finish.  A corn-based natural alternative to petroleum based glycols, it reduces water loss in the skin.

Kosher Vegetable Glycerin

A natural, pure glycerin that serves to attract and retain moisture and oxygen in the skin.

Rice Amino Acids

Rice amino acids are a mixture of amino acids derived from the complete hydrolysis of rice protein.

Without protein, our skin becomes unprotected and rough. Our skin needs to make protein to stay healthy and hydrated. Rice amino acids can provide this protein. It provides a protective skin barrier.

Hydrolyzed Rice Protein is an effective anti-irritant that leaves dry skin smooth. It has an anti-inflammatory effect while providing  skin hydration.

Baobab Fruit

Baobab Fruit

Baobab Seed Extract

Baobob is a tropical, fruit-bearing, indigenous tree. Baobab Seed Extract or Hydrolyzed Adansonia Digitata is considered a superfruit. Rich in Vitamins A, C, D, and E, it feeds the skin. Baobob is higher in Vitamin C than oranges to offer C serum benefits without the irritation.  Baobob also contains moisture-retaining properties to reduce transepidermal water loss.

Rich in Omega-3s such as palmitic, oleic, linolenic, and linoleic acids. These mighty Omegas moisturize and refine skin. They also build elastin, repair the skin barrier, and reduce inflammation.  These properties make Baobab helpful for treating dry skin, even that affected by eczema.  [15]  Studies show the linoleic acid makes Baobob an effective acne treatment [16] while concurrently addressing signs of aging.

Soybean ingredient on StyleChicks.com

Soybeans

Hydrolyzed Soy Protein

Soy protein is emollient and anti-oxidant. Soybeans are rich in Vitamin E which softens and reduces inflammation.

Honey

Honey is a natural humectant and antioxidant. This bee product excels at clearing acne, healing scars, and promoting an even skin tone. It promotes wound healing while gently exfoliating dead skin cells.

Raw honey is a versatile natural skincare ingredient

Honey is a versatile natural skincare ingredient

Glyceryl Caprylate

Glyceryl Caprylate is a 100% plant derivative of glycerin and caprylic acid. It has emollient and moisturizing properties. It is a  co-emulsifier that helps water and oil based ingredients to work together.

Penthelyne Glycol

Penthelyne Glycol binds water to the skin

Morganna’s Alchemy Serum Trio Collection is an excellent price point considering the ingredients packed into this set. I’ve paid more for just a blue light treating serum alone. All three serums are scent-free, non-irritating, and effective.

Improve Dark Circles with BeautyStat Universal C Eye Perfector

December 30, 2020 · Leave a Comment

I’ve had dark circles since grade school. When I don’t wear concealer, my dark circles make concerned friends ask if I am sick or tired.  And even with concealer, I can never truly cover them.  If you suffer from dark circles, consider giving BeautyStat Universal Eye Perfector a try.
BeautyStat Universal C Eye Perfector

BeautyStat Universal C Eye Perfector

Dark circles are caused by many things: allergies, hereditary, facial structure, and leaking capillaries. Sun damage and discoloration makes all those problems look even worse.  Unfortunately, there isn’t much that can help dark circles.

But BeautyStat Universal Eye Perfector combines 5% Vitamin C with Hemp, Green Tea, Hyaluronic Acid, caffeine, and magnolia to get results.

In four weeks, 71% of users showed improvement in under-eye discoloration (dark circles)

The Research behind BeautyStat

In an independent clinical study, users were assessed with a Visia CR Imaging System. The results:

  • 90% showed improvement in crow’s feet, fine lines, and wrinkles.
  • 81% showed improvement in skin clarity.
  • 84% had improved skin brightness.
  • 71% showed improvement in under-eye discoloration (dark circles).

BeautyStat Universal C Eye Perfector Ingredients

How does this dark circle corrector work? Check out the ingredient list:

The Ingredients

Beauty Stat uses a stable form of Vitamin C for superior results

Beauty Stat uses a stable form of Vitamin C for superior results

Vitamin C

A potent 5% pure stabilized vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid). It is fresh and concentrated. L-ascorbic acid is a vitamin C that can be applied as a topical skin treatment.

Vitamin C is the only antioxidant proven to stimulate collagen production.

CBD Oil comes from Cannabis Sativa

Hemp Oil

Hemp Oil

Hemp Seed Oil is high in Omega-3, 6, and 9 fatty acids. It is also high in Vitamins A, E, and D.

Hemp Seed Oil comes from the seeds of the Cannabis sativa plant. Hemp Seed Oil doesn’t contain the same compounds as the plant but has the nutrients and fatty acids.

It reduces acne while hydrating the skin. This helps soothe skin.

Flowering Camellia Sinensis

Flowering Camellia Sinensis or Green Tea

EGCG

EGCG comes from Green Tea. EGCG enables the production of new cells in the epidermis [1]. It contains phenols to strengthen collagen and elastin. This gives skin a bouncy, younger look while delaying wrinkles.

ECCG also soothes skin to help tolerate powerful actives like Vitamin C.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid retains moisture and increases the effectiveness of other ingredients.  Hyaluronic acid holds its’ weight in moisturizer. It holds so much moisture that it instantly plumps fine lines. It plumps the skin, making fine wrinkles and mild sagging temporarily disappear.

Caffeine

Caffeine has antioxidant properties and slows down photo-aging. Caffeine stimulates blood circulation and reduces puffiness.

It is particularly effective on firmness, reducing fine lines and crow’s feet.

Protect Luxury Haircare: Luxear 2 Pack Shower Caddy

Quality hair and skincare can work wonders. Products like Hyaluronic Acid need to be applied while the skin is still wet from the shower. And some of our favorite brands cost a pretty penny. But while sitting in the shower, they can get waterlogged, ruining your favorite luxury products. Keep your favorite hair care high and dry with Luxear 2 Pack Shower Caddy.

Maximilian Passion Fruit Black Seed Oil Curly Hair Shampoo Conditioner Set

December 23, 2020 · Leave a Comment

It is a good time for hair rehab. Curly hair is naturally dry and requires extra moisture. An excellent shampoo and conditioning duo to restore moisture into dry, damaged hair is Maximilian Passion Fruit Black Seed Oil Curly Hair Shampoo and Conditioner Set. It contains only gentle, moisturizing ingredients including Passionfruit Extract, Sweet Almond Oil, Panenthol, and Black Seed Oil.

Why curly hair Needs Moisture

Curly hair requires extra moisture

Curly hair is naturally drier. It has a wider diameter which leads to more surface moisture loss.  Our natural scalp oils have difficulty making their way down the spiral shape of a curl.

The shape of a curl also makes it extra brittle.

When curly hair is colored or styled straight with hot tools, it can easily damage already dry hair.

Many shampoos and even conditioners contain ingredients that dry out and damage curly hair. These include parabens, sulphates, silicones, and alcohols.

If you have curly hair, it is a great time to transition away from drying shampoos and conditioners in order to achieve lush, healthy, soft, and shiny curls.

A great haircare set for curly hair is Maximilian Passion Fruit Black Seed Oil Curly Hair Shampoo and Conditioner Set.

What Makes Maximilian Special

Maximilian ingredients are considered safe for curly hair

Both the shampoo and conditioner use natural, safe, curly friendly ingredients to infuse and lock in moisture.

Also important is what these products do NOT contain:

  • No Sulfate, Paraben, PEG, coloring, or gluten
  • No Silicone
  • No animal testing, cruelty-free

While these features are vital for curly hair, they are also beneficial to any texture hair that is dry, colored or damaged. Sulfates can be drying to even oily hair types. But this set uses three gentle cleansers considered safe for curly hair.

This volumizing formula makes hair healthier, it smooths the hair while imparting softness and shine. The ingredients work together to add moisture and then lock in that moisture.

Let’s take a closer look at these outstandingly curl-friendly ingredients.

Passion Fruit Extract

Passion fruit Extract contains hair restoring nutrients

Passion fruit Extract contains hair restoring nutrients

Passion fruit seed oil, also known as Maracuja Oil, is a Brazilian beauty mainstay. It improves how the hair looks and feels. It also benefits the health of the scalp. Healthy scalps are vital to growing healthy hair.

Passion fruit extract contains 72% linoleic acid, one of the richest sources of this hair-friendly essential acid. [1]  This gives hair a glossy, healthy shine.

It is rich in vitamin A, potassium, antioxidants, and minerals that benefit both hair and scalp. Vitamin C, riboflavin, carotene improves moisture retention. These antioxidants counteract the oxidative stress signs of hair aging [2]

Vitamin E improves dry hair and a dry scalp. It infuses moisture and retains it. This helps alleviate dandruff and restore dry, damaged hair.  Vitamins B6 and B2 aid scalp circulation. This benefits follicles and helps build stronger hair. Passion fruit extract also has anti-inflammatory benefits.

The vitamins in Passion fruit extract are amazing at locking in moisture without leaving the hair greasy or limp.

Sweet Almond Oil restores brittle hair

Sweet Almond Oil restores brittle hair

Sweet Almond Oil

Sweet Almond Oil is hair reparative and softening.  Sweet Almond Oil is excellent for brittle hair, damaged hair, dry and over-processed hair.

Sweet almond oil contains proteins and vitamins A, B, D, and E, Omega-3 fatty acids, phospholipids, and magnesium. Amino acids and proteins strengthen the hair strand and smooth the appearance of the hair cuticle.  It nourishes and strengthens damaged hair, making it silky and shiny again. It also reduces hair loss and makes hair more elastic.

Sweet Almond Oil protects delicate hair strands and combats brittleness. Brittleness results in breakage and is a huge barrier to meaningful hair growth.

Almond Oil is also a carrier oil, meaning it helps other oils and ingredients penetrate and absorb.

Sweet Almond Oil also gives hair a natural sheen.

Black Seed Oil

Black Seed Oil comes from the seeds of the flower Nigella sativa

Black Seed Oil comes from the seeds of the flower Nigella sativa

Black Seed Oil is also known as Cumin Seed Oil. It comes from the seeds of the Nigella sativa, commonly called virgin in the green flower.

Rich in fatty amino acids, Black Seed Oil is moisturizing to both the hair and the scalp.

For scalp care, Black Seed Oil contains Thymoquinone. This is an excellent antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant. It hydrates the scalp to keep it in optimal condition for growing healthy hair.  It combats scalp conditions such as dandruff, psoriasis, and other skin conditions  [3]

Black Seed Oil is called a hair growth remedy.  Studies of Telogen effluvium hair loss show topical Black Seed Oil reduces temporary hair loss. [4]

Black Cumin Oil works well with other ingredients to provide therapeutic effects.

Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5)

Panthenol is a humectant, emollient, and moisturizer. Panthenol is the alcohol analog of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) and is a provitamin of B5.  It has ultra-hydrating properties. But unlike oils, it won’t make hair oily or greasy.

Panthenol penetrates the hair shaft and locks in moisture. It also retains moisture along the hair surface which reflects light for a shiny appearance. It also makes hair look and feels soft and pliable without oils or waxes. The sealed-in moisture plumps the hair shaft which gives the hair a more voluminous appearance.  It makes hair look healthier by boosting shine and plumping the hair shaft. More volume gives even damaged or thinning hair a healthier appearance. [5]

It is excellent for brittle hair and curly hair.  It washes clean from the hair without residue.  For very porous hair, it can behave like a protein.

Panthenol also moisturizes the skin on the scalp and is believed to promote cell regeneration.

The Maximilian Experience

The Shampoo

The texture is silky and lightweight. It has an earthy and natural organic scent.

There is a soothing, gentle latter. It rinses clean but the hair doesn’t feel stripped. The directions say to rinse with cool water.

Impressively moisturizing on my curly, coarse, damaged hair. It leaves my hair so soft and shiny!

The Conditioner

The texture is creamy and lightweight. It is not waxy or sticky.

I used about two-three tablespoons on my waist-length hair. It is an excellent texture for the curly girl method “squish and cond-ish”. My hair just drank it in.

Even while I was rinsing the conditioner from my hair, it felt so much stronger.

RESULT

Without any other styling products and drying my hair naturally, my hair looked great!  I love how thick and strong this set makes my hair feel! And it has shine and movement!
