The
Ingredient Profile

Glycolic Acid

Glycolic Acid (AHA) loosens the glue that adheres dry, dead skin to healthy skin, and then dissolves away the dead skin.

It is the best way to exfoliate mature skin. There is no rubbing or pulling the skin.

There is also little to no peeling and limited redness or irritation after use.

Skin is brighter, younger, softer, with few lines and wrinkles, and it glows like younger skin. Glycolic Acid reduces acne scars. [1] Glycolic Acid also promotes collagen production.

Hyaluronic Acid (Sodium Hyaluronate Acid)

Sodium Hyaluronate Acid is a non-synthesized form of Hyaluronic Acid.

Sodium Hyaluronate Acid has a lower molecular size compared to other Hyaluronic Acids. This is good because it can absorb deeper into the skin.

It has Hyaluronic Acid benefits. It is found naturally and ample supply in young skin, but depletes with age.

Hyaluronic Acid retains moisture and increases the effectiveness of other ingredients.  It holds so much moisture that it instantly plumps fine lines. This plumps the skin, making fine wrinkles and mild sagging temporarily disappear.

Lactic Acid

Lactic acid exfoliates and brightens skin. It is gentler than glycolic acid.

Lactic acid holds moisture while increasing firmness and skin thickness.

Glycerin

Glycerin a non-toxic natural humectant. It helps skin attract and maintain moisture. It fills in gaps in dryer skin which makes skin look better and keeps the outer layer of the skin intact.

Vitamin E (Tocopherol)

My skin is looking really dull but I haven’t wanted to try a peel since it’s been so cold out. Do you think this is gentle enough?

  4. Nikki Lansford says:

Is Matrixyl synthe like matrixyl 3000?

    • Thanks for such an outstanding question, Nikki!

Sederma created both ingredients. The difference between Matrixyl 3000 and Matrixyl Synthe’6 (as in this Mad Hippie product) will be the subject of a future blog post. But as a quick answer, they are very similar.

Matrixyl 3000 is a collagen stimulator and anti-ager. It based on two peptides: a palmitoyl tripeptide and a palmitoyl tetrapeptide. It is a more common ingredient than its’ elusive counterpart Matrixyl Synthe’6.

Matrixyl-3000 tricks the skin into thinking the skin has been injured and needs replacement collagen. See Our Defining Beauty Glossary Matrixyl-3000 definition for more details.

Matrixyl Synthe’6 adds a new palmitoyl tripeptide to Matrixyl 3000. Said tripeptide regulates cell activity, wound repair and collagen tissue remodeling. Matrixyl Synthe’6 stimulates important skin constituents:

      1. Collagen I (dermis)
      2. Collagen III (wound healing)
      3. Collagen IV (wound healing stimulation)
      4. Fibronectin (skin tissue repair)
      5. Hyaluronic Acid
      6. Laminin-5 (heals injured epidermis)

So we were thrilled to see Matrixyl Synthe’6 paired with so many awesome actives in this Mad Hippie product!
