What makes a good Vitamin C Serum even better? When it comes with eight supporting actives focused on superior skin optimization. Vitamin C gets a helping hand with a combination of natural but powerful ingredients that revitalize skin. Each active in this formulation has a corresponding “buddy” ingredient. Vitamin C serum is a holy grail product when it comes to tackling whatever skincare problem ails you. It treats sun damage, acne, acne scars, discoloration, age spots, fine lines, skin texture, and enlarged pores all while promoting collagen production. But even Vitamin C needs a little help from its’ friends.

In the case of Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum, those friends come in the form of some skin-friendly actives that are packed with skin-nourishing vitamins, hydration, lipids, fatty acids and other goodies that keep skin acting younger and looking vibrant.

Every active in this formulation has a corresponding “buddy” ingredient.  Each active has an improved mechanism because of their buddy.

A solid formulation where all the ingredients support each other

When Actives Are BFFs

Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum has active ingredients that work together. Some examples:

Konjac + Hyaluronic Acid

The Hyaluronic Acid and Konjac Acid combination do something special.

Both Hyaluronic Acid and Konjac have high hygroscopic properties. They pull moisture from the air. The low molecular weight hyaluronic acid plus the glucomannan in konjac maximize their combined water absorption capacity. Once they absorb into the skin, they “link”. They attract water and swell in the skin. I mean, really, really swell with water. All the can get. So much water. It gives the skin a nice plump look while simultaneously treating.

The Three Amigos

Ferulic, C, and E are all anti-aging antioxidants. Awesome individually, but together they are special. According to the Journal of Investigative Dermatology:

“Ferulic acid alone (and vitamins C and E) provide partial protection but vitamins C, E and ferulic acid [altogether] provide virtually complete protection.”[1]

The Vitamin C is part of a Serum Duo with the Mad Hippie Exfoliating Serum but also available as a stand-alone product.  The Mad Hippie Serum Duo has an astounding number of actives between them, yet don’t irritate the skin.

Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum and Exfoliating Serum Duo

Mad Hippie Vitamin C Serum and Exfoliating Serum Duo

Let’s examine these active ingredients in detail.

✽

Active Ingredient Profile

Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate)

A water-soluble C particularly effective on acne treatment and prevention. Sodium ascorbyl phosphate (SAP) is a stable precursor of vitamin C that ensures a constant delivery of vitamin C into the skin. [2]  In layperson terms, it won’t turn brown or go bad. SAP has a strong antimicrobial effect.

Konjac Root

This unusual looking specimen seen below is Konjac Root. It contains glucomannan, a moisturizer similar to the natural hyaluronic found in young skin. It makes skin look and act younger.  It penetrates the upper layer of the epidermis and hydrates the surface.

Konjac root also contains a slew of skin-friendly vitamins such as A, B1, B2, B6, B12, C, D, and E, plus lipids and fatty acids. It smooths fine wrinkles and promotes collagen and elastin production.

Konjac also contains copper, a skincare superstar that builds collagen and the elusive but skin-vital elastin. Elastin is crucial because it reduces sagging and wrinkles and gives skin a springy and healthy look. Copper is rare and pricey skincare, which makes its’ presence in this formula all the more awesome. Copper also plays very well with the other actives in this formula. [3]

Konjac Root

ferulic acid

Ferulic acid (4-hydroxy-3-methoxycinnamic acid) is naturally found in plant cell walls. Ferulic acid makes Vitamin C more stable, and is also an anti-oxidant. Ferulic acid is particularly good at protecting against aging caused by free radicals and environmental stress factors.

Hyaluronic acid

In addition to the humectant and plumping properties described above, Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a microcarrier. Like a friend with VIP access, it helps active molecules penetrate deeper into the skin for better results.

HA assists all the actives and is particularly good at the dermal delivery of sodium ascorbyl phosphate (SAP).

Vitamin E

A protective antioxidant that lessens discoloration.  E makes damaged skin soft and pliable again while reducing wrinkle and fine line formation.

Clary Sage

Clary Sage

Clary sage strengthens the skin while balancing excess sebum. It calms and rejuvenates the skin in a manner similar to lavender but without as strong of a scent.

It contains linalyl acetate, an anti-inflammatory that heals skin irritation.[4]

Chamomile Extract

Chamomile flower

Chamomile flower

Chamomile Extract is excellent in a formulation with powerful actives because it contains flavones. These flavones inhibit the production of inflammation, even in deeper skin layers. [5]

Meanwhile, The apigenin in Chamomile protects the skin barrier. [6] This gentle and hypoallergenic extract soothes skin, heals burns, and is great for helping skin recover and benefit from chemical peels.

Chamomile Extract is an antioxidant that also kills the bacteria that causes acne while soothing skin. [7]

The chamomile helps enable the daily use of this serum without irritation or skin peeling.

Chamomile

✽

What We Love About It

This is a particularly impressive C serum. As a stable C, it is good to the last drop: no degrading or turning brown.

The ingredient combo is exceptionally effective and hits all the bases.  Skin appears refined after use without redness or tightness. There is no peeling skin or dryness.  It is powerful but there is no need to skip a day due to irritation.

Unlike many C serums, it is not sticky or tacky on dry down. It doesn’t pill or get crusty under my sunscreen and makeup.✽class=”toc_list”

The Vitamin C is part of a Serum Duo with the Mad Hippie Exfoliating Serum but also available as a stand-alone product.  Read about Mad Hippie Exfoliating Serum ingredients and our experience here.

How to Use This Serum

After cleansing, apply just a half a dropper full daily to the face and throat. Follow with a moisturizer so the hyaluronic and Konjac acids can work their moisture-binding, skin-plumping, hygroscopic magic.

Apply twice a day if this is your only serum, or once a day if using the MH Exfoliative Serum or another nighttime favorite.

Apply one-half dropper of the serum to face and throat.

Apply one-half dropper of the serum to face and throat.

✽

RESULTS

The impact of Konjac and C together is so impressive: dark spots fade fairly quickly. Paired with the Mad Hippie Exfoliating Serum at night, this duo makes for an impressive one-two punch against aging and skin issues like discoloration, acne, fine lines, and skin texture. And it does it with zero irritation.

If skin aging, poor texture, acne or sun damage make you want to apply ALL the things, this C Serum and the serum duo contain many excellent actives in the right combination and proportions to get the job done without causing any irritation.

Why Pair Retinol with Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid

October 23, 2017 · 6 Comments

Here at Style Chicks, we talk about Retinol a lot. A lot, a lot, a lot. And for good reason, as recently discussed, it treats acne to wrinkles and everything in between. And for all our jabbering about how Retinol can single-handedly do all the things, why do we still think it should be paired with Vitamin C Serum and Hyaluronic Acid? Because Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid make Retinol do all the things faster, deeper and better. My Dermatologist recommended using Retinol and Vitamin C daily for optimal collagen production and anti-aging benefits. Read on to learn why Retinol, Vitamin C, and Hyaluronic Acid are the Three Amazing Amigos of Skincare.

Just a small dollop of Lordsbury Retinol+C Cream Moisturizer combines the power of Retinol, Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid,  plus a rich moisturizing cream suitable for the eyes, face, and throat

Retinol, for those of you new to Style Chicks, is one of our favorite beauty weapons. Retinol refines skin texture, it breaks up discoloration, it quells acne and reverses skin damage. It eradicates dead skin like a slow-mo chemical peel leaving younger, dewy skin in its place. And as an unexpected bonus, blackheads practically leap out of your face and very few ever return because those pores are empty and stay empty. But there are two other active ingredients that when used in conjunction with Retinol can help it work even better, that being Vitamin C Serum and Hyaluronic Acid.

VITAMIN C AND RETINOL

Vitamin C Serum, the topical form of Vitamin C, delivers Vitamin C to the surface layers of the skin. In doing so, it lightens discoloration, helps reverse sun damage and helps quell acne. Sound familiar? Why yes, it sounds an awful lot like what Retinol does. Then why bother using both? Because Vitamin C is the Ying to Retinol’s Yang, accomplishing the same general task but in a different way so that together, they complete the job. Some examples:

  • Where Retinol tackles discoloration by breaking apart the dark pigment, Vitamin C fades any discoloration and does especially well on smaller specks of scars, age spots, and sun damage.
  • Where Retinol refines the texture of skin so it looks strong, Vitamin C builds collagen to strengthen and support it so it is strong.
  • Retinol fights a pimple from happening by cleaning out pores and eradicating bacteria-trapping dead skin, Vitamin C reduces the inflammation that makes small blemishes into big ones.
  • Both Retinol and Vitamin C help promote collagen, but each are involved at different stages in the collagen production process. Together, they ensure the maximum amount of collagen is produced.

The point of all this is these two ingredients accomplish the same end result, but in ways that the other one can’t. And together, they really get things done well. What a team!

Lordsbury Retinol+C Moisturizer contains BOTH Retinol and 20% Vitamin C Serum for TWICE a day use with ZERO irritation

Hyaluronic Acid and Retinol

Retinol quickly exfoliates and resurfaces the top layers of the skin. After a few weeks, many of us make the same mistake: “If a little Retinol is good, then MORE will be better!” Then the redness and irritation come. Applying a larger amount Retinol won’t get it deeper into your skin, it can only burn the surface layers. But when Retinol is paired with Hyaluronic Acid, it can reach deeper layers of the skin.

Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally present in the human body. It also comes in creams and serums, such as found in Lordsbury Retinol+C Cream Moisturizer. Hyaluronic Acid makes skin instantly dewy and soft, it plumps wrinkles and helps Retinol sink deeper into skin to address deep wrinkles, scars, and discoloration

Hyaluronic Acid is another Style Chicks favorite ingredient because it has the unique capability to absorb enough moisture to plump the skin. It also is a small enough molecule that it can penetrate deeper skin layers. This means any active ingredient, like Retinol and Vitamin C, when paired with Hyaluronic Acid can slip into these deep skin layers like it has a guest VIP pass, meaning Retinol paired with Hyaluronic Acid can tackle even very deep, old scars and sun-damaged layers of skin.

The deeper these ingredients get, the better the supporting collagen structure becomes, and even older and darker scars fade. When Hyaluronic Acid helps Retinol sink into the deeper skin layers, it helps eradicate uneven skin texture and tone, including sun damage and deep scars.

TIP: If you have acne, old scars, sun damage or wrinkles that even glycolic peels do not make a major dent into, then the damage is deep in the skin and a Hyaluronic/Retinol combo can be very helpful to your type of skin problems.

You can purchase Hyaluronic Acid and Retinol separately and apply them both at the same time, or you can use a Retinol that already contains Hyaluronic Acid, such as Lordsbury Retinol+C Cream Moisturizer. I also prefer Lordsbury Retinol+C Cream because all of us are tempted from time to time to slather on a bit too much Retinol, and since Lordsbury+C Cream Moisturizer has so many buffering emollient ingredients, it’s almost impossible to over-do it. Whereas with a prescription Retinol, it’s very easy to irritate the skin.

Lordsbury Retinol+C Retinol Cream moisturizer has several moisturizing ingredients so it is gentle enough for daily use

DERMATOLOGIST RECOMMENDATION FOR SKIN OVER THIRTY

My dermatologist told me that especially for skin over 30, the standard is Vitamin C during the day and Retinol at night, and apply a moisturizer on top, plus eye cream. This combo is effective but somewhat drying, and it is time-consuming to have so many layers of product.

I found it far most cost-effective and practical to just apply one product, Lordsbury Retinol+C Cream Moisturizer, which contains 2.5% Retinol, 20% Vitamin C Serum, Hyaluronic Acid, and a host of buffering moisturizers to tolerate the potent ingredients, including Wildcrafted Green Tea, Jojoba Oil, Sunflower Oil, Shea Butter, and Aloe Vera. These buffering moisturizers enable me to even use it even around my delicate eye area and throat twice a day.

One pump is all you need for face, neck and decolletage.

One pump of Lordsbury Retinol+C Cream Moisturizer is all you need for face and eyes to get a prescription strength Retinol, 20% Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid to make it work overtime, and a host of moisturizers that even buffer the delicate eye area from irritation.

CONCLUSION

Retinol can work wonders, but Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid can make a good thing even better by perfecting the tasks Retinol does well and enabling Retinol to access the deeper skin layers where old scars and sun damage may lurk. Hyaluronic Acid also helps Vitamin C and Retinol produce collagen at the deeper layers of the skin, which enables better support against wrinkles and sagging. Lordsbury Retinol+C combines all three ingredients together with many natural, soothing moisturizers, for a one-stop, all-in-one moisturizing treatment trifecta.

Lordsbury Retinol+C Cream Moisturizer: The Collagen Building Trifecta

April 12, 2017 · Leave a Comment

No topical remedy revitalizes skin faster than a combination of Retinol, Vitamin C, and Hyaluronic Acid. Got Acne? Brown Spots? Wrinkles? Dullness? Sagging? Uneven skin tone? Scarring or Hyperpigmentation? Redness? Stretch marks? All of the above? No matter what your skin woe is, the combination of these three ingredients has you covered. Typically, it takes buying three products to get this collagen-building beauty trifecta, but Lordsbury Retinol+C Cream Moisturizer combines all three into one moisturizing, twice a day product. And it’s super-sized at a whopping 2.8 ounces!

Lordsbury Retinol+C Moisturizer

Lordsbury Retinol+C Cream Moisturizer contains a beauty trifecta of skin care: 2.5% Retinol, Vitamin C and Hyaluronic plus moisturizer all in one.

Lordsbury Retinol+C Retinol Cream moisturizer has the terrific trio of skin care: Retinol, Vitamin C, and Hyaluronic acid. Together, they erase wrinkles, boost collagen production, encourage skin cell turnover, smooth and refine skin texture, fade scars and discoloration, and quell even active acne breakouts. Despite containing powerful ingredients, Lordsbury Retinol+C Retinol Cream moisturizer is neither irritating nor drying to even highly sensitive skin.

Typically, one would apply Vitamin C during the day and Retinol at night, preferably with a layer of Hyaluronic Acid and then a moisturizer on top of that. Lordsbury Retinol+C Retinol Cream moisturizer combines these steps into one cream.

HOW VITAMIN C HELPS SKIN

Vitamin C helps skin create collagen. We lose collagen as we age, starting at 30. As collagen depletes, the building blocks that retain the skin structure weaken, creating wrinkles and sagging. Collagen also helps scars, discoloration and sun damage fade and gain a more even texture.

Vitamin C also protects your new skin cells from free radicals and pollution, both of which contribute to accelerated aging of the skin.

HOW RETINOL HELPS SKIN

Retinol is a Vitamin A derivative that is FDA approved to make skin clearer and smoother, expunge impurities from pores, reduce fine lines, and speed cell turnover to even out discoloration, generally in less than one month.

HOW HYALURONIC ACID WORKS

Hyaluronic Acid holds massive amounts of moisture to plump out wrinkles and fine lines while making skin look dewy and young. Hyaluronic Acid also can pull active ingredients deeper into the skin, including Retinol and Vitamin C. The deeper these ingredients get, the better the supporting collagen structure becomes, and even older and darker scars fade. When Hyaluronic Acid helps Retinol sink into the deeper skin layers, it helps eradicate uneven skin texture and tone, including sun damage and deep scars.

Lordsbury Retinol+C Moisturizer for face, neck, decolletage, and hands

Lordsbury Retinol+C Cream Moisturizer is a powerful yet nourishing anti-aging treatment for face, neck, and decolletage

ANTI-AGING TREATMENT FOR FACE, NECK, DECOLLETAGE & HANDS

The result is a retinol cream that moisturizes, regenerates, and nourishes your face, neck, decolletage and hands. An anti-aging cream with Retinol for the hands is a big get, as we often neglect anti-aging treatments for our hands until we see tell-tale brown spots and other signs of aging. But hands respond quickly to a moisturizing Retinol and Vitamin C combination treatment, and this makes for an excellent treatment to revitalize hands and restore their youthful appearance.

On my hands, I focus on the brown discoloration on the knuckles, and the joints at the point of the palm and finger. This area gets heavily lined as it is always in motion. It also tends to get red and dry. Apply directly to any brown spots or discoloration. If you have a problem with ragged and dry cuticles, apply sparingly to the nail bed as well. The skin on the hands will quickly start to look more youthful. During the day, use a lotion with sunscreen on the hands.

Uniquely powerful yet emoillient, it does double duty as a hand treatment

Uniquely powerful yet still nourishing and emollient, Lordsbury Retinol+C Cream Moisturizer does double duty not just as a face, neck and decolletage treatment, but as an anti-aging hand treatment as well

FEATURES

  • It is a HUGE 2.8-ounce size; many Retinols are less than an ounce. Only a pea to dime size amount is needed for face and throat.
  • It has a pump top that ensures not too much product is dispersed at once.
  • There is a removable stopper plug and opaque product packaging to keep the product fresh
  • It is suitable for use on face, neck, shoulders, decolletage, and importantly the hands. Hands show signs of aging like brown spots, discoloration, wrinkles and lines, and they respond very well to Retinol, especially when combined with other active ingredients, like this one.
Opaque packaging and stopper plug keeps the product fresh

FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The scent is pleasant and dissipates within a few minutes of application. The cream is rich but the consistency is lightweight, and it spreads evenly. I like the dewy but not oily or greasy feel on my skin. It takes a minute to completely soak in and leave a smooth finish, like a regular moisturizer. It only takes one pump to cover my face, throat and some decolletage. I can apply makeup immediately after application without my face feeling too greasy or oily.

I expected it to feel heavy on my skin because it seems so rich and decadently creamy when pumped out of the bottle, but it spreads very quickly and absorbs so well, my face and especially my throat just drank it up.  Watch the video at the end of this post to see how smooth and lightweight the product becomes when spread on the skin.

One pump is all you need for face, neck and decolletage.

INGREDIENTS: WHAT SETS LORDSBURY RETINOL+C CREAM MOISTURIZER APART

In addition to 2.5% Pure Retinol, Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, it contains natural and certified organic ingredients like:

  • Wildcrafted Green Tea is an antioxidant that soothes irritated skin
  • Vitamin B5 helps soothe and regenerate skin
  • Vitamin E softens rough skin patches including scars
  • Organic Aloe Vera feeds the skin and softens the texture. It also helps moisturize and defend skin from irritation.
  • Organic Jojoba Oil restores youthful properties to skin, nourishing, balancing and moisturizing it.

It does NOT contain additives, harsh chemicals, parabens or dyes.

Contains natural, certified organic ingredients to soothe & nourish skin

HOW TO APPLY:

Apply day and night after cleansing the face, neck, decolletage and if you wish, to hands.

CONCLUSION

Lordsbury Retinol+C Cream Moisturizer is a fantastic deal! I was concerned that a combination product would not be as effective as my favorite Vitamin C or Retinol products when applied separately, but I was pleasantly surprised to see it was equally if not more efficient within the one product. Combined with the Hyaluronic Acid and all the skin nourishing natural ingredients, it makes for a great go-to skin moisturizer for face, neck, and the often neglected hands. And the price for the size just can’t be beat: 2.8 ounces!

If you have sensitive skin and have been unable to tolerate a Vitamin C and Retinol skin care plan, Lordsbury Retinol+C Cream Moisturizer is a viable option for you, as it contains several soothing ingredients to counteract the harsh drying effects associated with many Vitamin Cs and Retinols.

Favorite Skincare Ingredients: Hyaluronic Acid

February 24, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Like an Instagram Filter for real life, Hyaluronic Acid plumps wrinkles & pores with intense hydration, making skin appear instantly youthful & dewy.

Hyaluronic Acid is by far one of our favorite skincare ingredients; we always look for it in serums and moisturizers because it makes skin look fantastic as it plumps out wrinkles and crinkles and makes skin glow. But Hyaluronic Acid won “beauty secret weapon” status in our StyleChicks Favorite Skincare Ingredients Series because it helps any anti-aging active ingredient work more efficiently. Learn about the short term and long term benefits of Hyaluronic Acid.

WHAT HYALURONIC ACID DOES

Hyaluronic Acid gets “beauty secret weapon” status due to its’ ability to hold enormous amounts of moisture; it can draw moisture from the air, sucking it into the skin. This moisture drawing ability has a dual benefit. Not only does it make skin as plump and dewy as possible, creating an environment where the skin contains as much hydration as it can hold, but it uses this water drawing ability to pull active ingredients deeper into the skin.

BENEFITS OF HOLDING MOISTURE

  • Wrinkles, fine lines, and pores temporarily “plump out” from all the moisture until they are barely visible, yet it does not make the skin seem puffy or bloated. Hyaluronic Acid works wonders on crows feet, eleven lines, wrinkles on and around the mouth, forehead lines, and smile lines.
  • Hyaluronic Acid causes an optical blur effect, smoothing tiny imperfections in skin including on the throat, chest, and decolletage

IT SERVES AS AN ACTIVE INGREDIENT BOOSTER

Many active ingredients that are amazing for the skin such as MSM, Vitamin C, Retinol, Peptides, B3, and Buckthorn Oil all do their best work in the deeper layers of the skin. But their molecules are typically too large to absorb deeply. Hyaluronic Acid is like a friend with VIP access; it uses its’ moisture pulling ability to draw these active ingredients into deeper skin layers. The deeper active ingredients can work, the better the collagen production.

This means deep discoloration, sun damage, and acne scars are all fade for a much clearer look to the skin. And when collagen production happens at a deeper level, it better supports for skin, resulting in less sagging.

WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?

Hyaluronic Acid occurs naturally in the skin, but it depletes as we age, and the body does not make more. Topical Hyaluronic Acid application in the form of a cream, gel or serum replaces levels in the skin, giving a youthful glow.

HYALURONIC ACID USE TIPS

  • It is imperative to use a moisturizer over your Hyaluronic Acid, as it draws as much moisture as possible into the skin. If Hyaluronic Acid can’t get enough moisture, the surface of the skin can appear DRY, because the Hyaluronic is still “thirsty.” I like to apply Hyaluronic Acid over damp skin; sometimes I mix a Hyaluronic cream or serum with some water before applying it to my face and eye area.
  • A small amount of serum or cream will cover your face. Apply more if needed, focusing on wrinkles, pores on the cheeks, and the wrinkles on the forehead and throat.
  • Apply Hyaluronic Acid over a Vitamin C serum or Peptide Serum to maximize your results
  • Do you use an at-home device such Handheld Light Therapy or the NuFace? Instead of the conductive cream, apply your intensive treatment serum first then apply a Hyaluronic Acid cream over that and Aloe Vera on top for better results. The Hyaluronic Acid drives the serum in deeper.
  • If you live in an area with higher environmental pollution, consider only using Hyaluronic Acid at night so that it does not pull the pollutants into your skin from the air.

Some Hyaluronic Acid creams and serums we like:

  • Aurora Cure Ultimate 100% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum: Professional Strength: a clear serum, not sticky, very potent, as it is 100% Hyaluronic, no fillers. I like to apply this during the daytime after I wash my face and it is still moist, I lightly apply the Hyaluronic, then pat on two light coats of moisturizer (Clinique Dramatically Different for example) and spritz my face with water in between layers to lock in hydration. Also very useful paired with a Vitamin C serum, but make sure to add a moisturizer on top!
  • SERUM CEUTICALS ALBUMIN & HYALURONIC ACID SERUM  This is not a straight Hyaluronic, but the Albumin and Hyaluronic pairing together work wonders at reviving tired, older looking skin, and this has no chemicals or preservatives. Cool feature: this can be used ON EYELIDS (!!) without causing irritation.
  • Hyaluronic Acid Beauty Cream from Puritan’s Pride:  They could charge a fortune for this cream, but instead, they sell a tub of 4 ounces for under $10, and it is frequently on the Puritan’s Pride Buy 2 Get 3 Free Sale, making it an absolute steal. It is amazing when applied to the throat, the face, jowls, on the shoulders, hands, and decolletage, use sparingly around the eyes. When it is applied, enlarged pores disappear, forehead wrinkles appear practically non-existent.

Skincare: Aurora Cure Ultimate 100% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum Professional Strength

September 23, 2016 · Leave a Comment

SUMMARY of Aurora Cure Ultimate 100% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum: It only takes a few drops to make my skin look like I have a secret Instagram filter for real life. It quickly plumps skin so that all the fine wrinkles and not-so-fine-lines fill in, as if you used a filler, but it looks natural. It deflects the appearance of imperfections so that your skin looks like you, but smoother, softer, dewy, and firm. Very little Aurora Cure serum does the entire face without being sticky.

HYALURONIC ACID
If you are a regular reader here at StyleChicks, you have heard us tout the wonder of Hyaluronic Acid. It is hands-down my favorite supporting ingredient in many skincare products. So we were pretty excited when we found such a high quality, 100% professional grade Hyaluronic Acid from Aurora Cure. More about that in a bit, because if you are not familiar with Hyaluronic Acid, it is time to become acquainted with this beauty powerhouse and what it can do for your skin.

WHAT MAKE HYALURONIC ACID SO SPECIAL
First, Hyaluronic is a moisture magnet. It holds one-thousand times its’ weight in water, which is so much moisture that when applied to the skin, wrinkles and fine lines just plump up like a temporary filler and skin imperfections seem to disappear within minutes. Unlike a filler, skin retains its’ natural expression; it is just soft, supple, dewy and so plump with moisture that the face (or neck or decolletage) appears lifted. If you have chronically lined, wrinkled lips like me, a dab of Hyaluronic smooths them right out, plumping lips more naturally or evenly than a plumping lip gloss.

Second, this same moisture drawing capability helps other active ingredients get deeper into the skin than they could absorb on their own. Vitamin C for example, cannot reach too far beyond the surface skin layers alone. But Hyaluronic Acid is like having VIP access. It can get into deep crevices and layers of skin and takes treating ingredients such as Vitamin C, B, MSM, Horsetail, Gotu Kola, Stem Cells, and more to the layers that can affect real skin transformation: deep dermal layers where skin scaffolding structure exists, where deep wrinkles or scars are formed, and where much more collagen is needed to uphold skin and supporting tissue. Whatever skin treatment product you use, whether serums or Retinol, Hyaluronic can deliver those treating ingredients deeper into the skin.

Hyaluronic also has many skin benefits on its’ own. Our body makes less natural Hyaluronic Acid as we age, but the topical replacement of this acid is very effective. But there is some variety in cost and quality amongst Hyaluronic Acids, so finding the best cost-effective Hyaluronic Acid means you can afford to use it daily and derive the most benefit.

ABOUT AURORA CURE ULTIMATE PROFESSIONAL STRENGTH 100% PURE HYALURONIC ACID SERUM

As the title says, it is 100% Hyaluronic Acid, which is unusual for a Hyaluronic Acid serum. Many Hyaluronic Acid serums and creams are not pure Hyaluronic, rather, they contain some Hyaluronic Acid and are primarily various fillers ranging from helpful (Aloe Vera) to not so helpful (potentially irritating chemicals). Pure Hyaluronic Acid avoids unnecessary chemicals or fillers, meaning less irritation and more powerful product. A small amount goes a long way; this is a longer-term investment bottle.

Of note, the other two listed ingredients are a preservative (Phenoxyethanol) and Ethylhexylglycerin – a glycerin (preservative/skin conditioner) to give the serum base to the acid form.

USE & APPLICATION

It just takes a few drops of Aurora Cure Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum to smooth the face and a few more drops for the neck. I apply a drop at a time, starting on my forehead, then my jaw line, then I pat it on my cheekbones, browbone, the nose, and all around the undereye area. I use a few more drops on my throat. I follow up with my moisturizer afterward. Most days, I put my Vitamin C Serum on before my Hyaluronic Acid in the morning.

Alternatively, a few drops of Hyaluronic Acid can be added directly into your moisturizer before application; this helps distribute it evenly. I like that this Hyaluronic is not sticky so that I can leave the house without looking greasy.

Since Hyaluronic Acid immediately starts attracting moisture to the skin upon application, it is important to add a moisturizer over the Hyaluronic Acid. This is especially important if you are in a very arid climate or a high-pollution area because Hyaluronic will draw moisture from the ambient air if needed. I don’t need as much moisturizer since my skin is already plump and smooth, but I do use enough to coat the face, and the Hyaluronic quickly absorbs it into the skin.

TIP: If you use Hyaluronic Acid and your skin seems dryer for it, you aren’t giving your skin enough moisturizer for the Hyaluronic to pull into the skin. If you over moisturize, which is hard to do, allow a few extra minutes and blot down the excess.

RESULTS

While I love Hyaluronic Acid, the additives in several brands leaves me either sticky, too greasy to wear makeup over it, or a bit irritated from the excess chemicals. The Aurora Cure Hyaluronic Acid did not cause an irritation when I pair it with Vitamin C or retinol. The Aurora Cure left no residue and was not irritating, even around the delicate eye area. Being able to use it around the eye would be reason enough for me to buy this brand in the future.

My horizontal forehead crinkles disappear and my eleven lines appear much softer, they are still there, but not noticeable. Pores fill in and appear non-existent, very similar to an airbrushed look without seeming fake like a filler or cakey like a thick foundation.

I love the Aurora Care Hyaluronic on the undereye bags and crows feet as it gives such as soft, dewy look to the skin without irritating the eyes. The eye area looks so much younger, and the top of the cheekbone gains a nice natural highlight and plumpness. There is a “lifting” around the eye area due to the plump result of the Hyaluronic in this area is very youthifying.

The overall surface of the skin on the neck, chest, lips has such a smooth surface. Aurora Cure Hyaluronic makes your skin look like it does after your done filtering it for Instagram.

As for the ability for Hyaluronic Acid to enhance other active ingredient products such as Vitamin C serum or Retinol, I use the Hyaluronic with my evening Retinol and my morning Vitamin C Serum. The ability to enhance the Vitamin C production at a deep layer makes the most of my skin care routine.

TIP: For a good Vitamin C Serum recommendation, read our review of Aurora Cure Professional Grade Vitamin C serum. It is a serum chock full of anti-aging ingredients that make the most of the collagen production. I like to use these two Aurora Cure products together since they work great in tandem, and neither of them are sticky or leave a residue, so I can apply my makeup over them without getting greasy or flaky.

CONCLUSION: High-quality, concentrated, pure Hyaluronic Acid with no excess fillers or chemicals to irritate the skin, Aurora Pure Ultimate 100% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum provides a dewy, smooth alternative to naturally filling wrinkles and pores to provide an airbrush yet natural finish. It also enhances your existing skin care program to aid Vitamin C and Retinol to sink deep into the skin without dryness or redness. An excellent product!
